Hi Science Biker. Thank you for your work in putting this video together. It was most helpful for me, as a weekend mechanic, in getting my iQSE Quickshifter installed on my FJ-09. You went through the steps I needed to follow to the point where I felt comfortable doing the work myself. I really like the Quickshifter, BTW. Thanks again.

Victor Nilsson Yes. You’ll need to remove the tank and set it aside. Watch Science Biker’s video a couple times and follow the iQSE instructions carefully. It was helpful for me to take pictures with my phone, just to make sure I got things back together properly.

Just to add there is not a seal on the air filter box. I figured it when I replace the default air filter for a K&N, also very easy thing to do.

Great video! I have a 2010 FJR1300, and a 2015 FJ09. You mentioned it's your wife's bike and is shorter than you. I'm a 5'6" woman, so both bikes are quite tall for me. I wear daytona lady-star (or m-star for men) so that I can confidently touch the ground on both my tall bikes. The boots are expensive, but worth every penny imho. German, hand made boots. I'm not selling - just sharing info if she's interested. Please keep up the excellent, informative how-to videos!
Moto Mutha Yes, I've seen those boots and they are on my wife's wish list. Definitely pricey but I'm sure they're worth it for shorter riders.

just curious what made you decide a brand new bike needed this? also on an fz the intake runners aren't all equal length so wouldn't the air box need to be reinstalled? thanks for the video!
The service manual calls for a TBS to be performed after the break-in (600 miles) and then again every 4,000 miles. Mine were a bit out of spec. Not all bikes will always be out of spec but its good to check. Out of sync throttle bodies can contribute to extra vibration in the handlebars and footpegs, as well as decreased fuel economy and performance. It may or may not be enough to be noticeable to the rider, depending on how far out of spec they are.
You are supposed to reinstall the air intake box, per the service manual, but on the FJ, (I can't speak for the FZ but I assume they are the same) other people have measured the vacuum with and without the airbox and it is identical so its generally considered not necessary.
Hi I have a new 2019 tracer 900. I feel little vibes in the handle bars at 4000 rpm. I have 750 miles on it. Could that be the sync is off. How much was yours off and did it improve any vibration
A TBS will improve vibes, but the triple will always have a certain characteristic vibration to it at certain RPMs.

am i able to just take the bolts out and lift enough to slide the ECU out without taking the tank all the way off?
No, but you can just spin the tank 180 degrees without disconnecting the fuel line or electronics to it.
Can this throttle body sync fix that warm (hot) start issue?
I've never had any hot start issue. Actually, I hadn't even heard of it until you mentioned it. I did a quick Google search and it sounds like it might be related to a bug in the ECU that needs to be fixed/flashed by the dealer. Nonetheless, a throttle body sync can only help your bike's performance.

Should fuel tank be empty before removal? Can it be drained? Or can I remove the tank with fuel inside?
You can remove fuel tank with fuel inside. Being closer to empty will assist you in making it lighter and easier to pick up.
I have a fj09 2016 can anyone give me advice I had the battery off since last season soon as i put that battery back on and tried to start the bike all the gas just leaked out of the bike from under the tank I never seen that before can anyone tell me what happened
It sounds like you have a fuel leak. Either due due to a loose connection or a hole in the rubberized fuel lines. For example, its possible that a rodent decided to chew through your fuel line. Follow the steps in this video to remove your tank and inspect your fuel lines for leaks.

did you notice any changes after the sync?
My wife (its her bike) said it seemed to have less vibration in the bars/footpegs while cruising down the road. And just that the overall throttle response was smoother. Depends on how far out of spec your TB's are as to how big of a difference you will notice.
You mentioned that this is your wife's bike. May I ask what do you ride? Good video BTW.
I have a 2015 FJR 1300. They are both great bikes. The fact that the FJ09 weighs significantly less than the FJR makes it much easier for her to handle at low speeds. Especially since she is shorter than me. I have a review of my FJR1300 on my channel if you're interested.

I have a problem and i need help. I recently bought a 2018 mt09 with a full carbon akrapovic exhaust system on the bike. There were two previous owners before me. The second owner, the guy i bought the bike from said that the first owner bought the bike from the the dealership with a full akrapovic exhaust installed and tuned by the dealership. i don't fully trust the second owner's knowledge of the bike's history. But the bike looks good and almost brand new, around 2000 miles on the odometer when i bought it.
My problem is when i rode the bike and i was sitting on a red light when the bike was idling and when i apply a little rev from a stand still and on neutral the bike would stall. It would idle on a stop on neutral just fine up until you apply a small amount of rev. If you add about 2500rpm or less of rev the engine would shut off. But if you add a quick and big enough rev about 3500+ rpm it would rev up just fine all the time. I could only manage to successfully rev the engine for 2500rpm about half of the time without the engine dying, so it does not stall all the time when you rev it slightly.
Like i said i do not know the history of the bike due to the two previews owners. I do not believe the dealer even installed the full exhaust and tuned it so i think someone is lying. I think the original owner which is the first owner bought and installed the full akrapovic exhaust without having it tuned and sold the bike to the second owner who i bought it from but i am just speculating.
What should i do? Is it just a tuning problem or could it be something else? Or probably a throttle body sync issue, bad spark plug, or air filter? And the bike already has 2000 miles when i bought it and i guess it was running in that state. Any suggestion on the direction i should go to fix this idle+rev=engines stall situation? Your help would be appreciated. Thanks
Sounds like a possible flat spot in the throttle position sensor. A mechanic should be able to test the throttle position sensor's response.
Does the bike have a power commander installed? Dealers normally dont tune ECUs but they will install power commanders which could be the culprit.
@@sciencebiker9519 yea, the second owner who i bought it from told me that the first owner bought the bike from the dealer with the full exhaust and ecu flashed. Maybe it was not properly tuned. I did not see any power commander under the seat or compartment or around the batter area. I have not looked under the gas tank yet.
Upon further research it seems like it has something to do with the fuel cut-off default feature set the manufacture. Where the engine cuts off when you roll off the throttle all in the name of emissions improvement or regulations. So it does seem like the ecu was not flashed to accommodate the new full akrapovic exhaust.
But i am not a mechanic or an expert by any means when it comes to bikes. It is kind of making me paranoid, thinking if it is this or that problem/solution. I was hoping to get a general direction about the problem by watching youtube and going into different forums so i can take it to a tuning specialist or a mechanic or if i can fix it myself.

SB Rider my 16’ fz is seeming to develop a “stutter” so to speak around 3k-ish rpm, I have read that someone found the same thing to be moisture in the accelerator and throttle position sensors. I have not ridden the bike much since, or investigated further so it could be something with the fuel, spark plugs, or perhaps something like the throttle bodies being out of sync which I hadn’t thought about. If you find out what that problem was/is please share
@@TheMrChaddles i solved the problem in my bike. the problem was that the original owner did not have the ecu flashed when he got the full exhaust. so when i sent the ecu to be flashed the bike runs completely fine now. i hope this helps
SB Rider awesome. I am going to have mine done asap. I only have a slip on and can’t really afford new headers right now (also not sure if they are completely worth the time & money), but did you send yours to vcyclenut like everyone else seems to do?
NEVER ADJUST THE REFERENCE SCREW/THROTTLE BODY. It is calibrated to its ecu and serves as base reference...
Certain things in this video could have been done in an easier fashion. No need to remove the fuel/electrical hose-moving the tank 180 degrees and placing it on the space of the driver seat is enough to allow you to do the job. In the mt-09's, either of the three throttle bodies may be the reference one, it is not set identically for every bike. I do not think this video is a good guide.
The reference screw usually has some white paint on it. It should not be tampered with, it is the base reference to which all others will be calibrated accordingly. He probably was not successful first time around either because the bike was not warm enough or because he did not rev the throttle sufficiently every time he tried to level the manometer readings after they had set.
I appreciate the good intentions of the video's creator but in this instance he does not have the necessary expertise/experience to instruct others. Only following a manual in such operations is just not enough...
He's probably not the best, but he's the guy who took the time to record a video to try to help other people including me. If you have enough knowledge, please record your video I would like to watch it.
