    His inexperience shows but I admire him digging into it. That's how you learn. Nice work kid.

      This should be titled "how NOT to change the fork oil". Working on a Metric Bike with imperial spanners, hitting a spanner with a Metal hammer and taking half the Bike apart when you don't need to. Well done for trying but why make a fool of yourself by posting it online?

    I’m about to repair a seal leak in my 2005 FJR. So this video is helpful, especially the goofs. I had to laugh a bit at the stuff we all run into doing this work in our garages rather than taking it to the dealer for service. Your buddy should be very grateful for what you did for him. I can’t wait to see what stuff I do that I’ll kick myself for later. Just hope I don’t have more than one of those moments when I can’t figure out what I’ve done wrong.

    Thank you for sharing. Interesting fork wrestling techniques. Your tips are more insightful than the manual. I'm now ready to tackle this on my FJR this afternoon.

    Good to learn on someone else's bike. On your own bikes, use a vise with soft jaws to hold the fork. Use gravity to drain every drop of all the old contaminated crap by setting the tubes upside-down overnight. Loosen or use a plastic gadget to clean under the top wipers, then use Ultra Slick Seal Grease.

    I know this is old but. I am watching it so tip: there is a nut in the middle of the reflector. loosen it Slightly and the reflector can turn out of the way allowing you to get to caliper bolts and yest those suckered are on there hard

    Great video! I am wondering what service manual are you using? I desn't look like a Yamaha service manual...

    How did the old oil look after 40k miles? Any metal in it?

    • @sciencebiker9519
      @sciencebiker9519 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was dark grey, kind of a graphite color. Probably some metal in it from normal wear, but anything that was there was incredibly fine so that you would need a microscope to see it. I would consider the condition of the oil normal for time in service. No evidence of leaking seals. If you pause @17:12 that's probably your best look at the old oil.

    Lovely to see you spill oil. Same with me when I took the things apart. Oil all over the show.
    How many cl. new oil you put back in and is your friend satisfied with the front suspension performance ?
