  • In this video I show how you can easily balance your own motorcycle tire.
Here is a link to the balancer tool I use:

UPDATE: The rear tire was recently replaced. The weights I mounted on this video held firmly to the tire without a problem until it was time to do the tire change.

Thanks for the tutorial. I'm not yet confident to do this operation myself but at least I now better understand what needs to be done.

Last year I took my Kawasaki to the dealer for the 600 mile check and I could make a list of things they neglected and outright did wrong, There was also some minor damage. When my FJ-09 is ready for 600 mile service, I'll do it myself. I have the service manual and most tools. The place I took my wheels to get my tires changed, did an ok job, but I think I'll just do that myself too.

A few weeks ago I changed that rear tire on my FJR. I used Motion Pro Spoons and bead breakers (About $50 on Revzilla). They worked, but it took a lot of time and effort to get the tire off the bead and then especially off the rim. I was as careful as I could possibly be, but they still took the paint off the inside part of the rim. Thankfully no damage to the aluminum itself. I am seriously considering investing in a No-Mar tire changer for future tire changes. They are expensive, but if you a true DIY guy, and if you change enough m/c tires, it will pay for itself in a couple years. Since I have both my FJR and my wife's FJ09, it probably makes sense to buy one. Hopefully I'll get one before I have to do another tire change. I think I'll be good on tires until next Spring/early Summer.

You mounted weights in wrong locations.
They go a little farther toward the middle of the rim.
Yamaha factory ones went on the center ridge, but no local places carry those.

I mounted the weights as close to the center of the wheel as I could get them, given that they won't adhere properly to the center ridge. The tire seems to be running smoothly down the road at this point. I'll report back as to how they did when I change my tire.

yeah hopefully those balance weights won't fly off when you're doing 80 mph on the expressway, good luck !

Save the hassle and throw in 'balancing beads'.
    Problem solved.
