Great video. Really useful. I have an X308 XJR which I want to upgrade instrument cluster bulbs on. Pretty much same process.
Full replacement for me I think as I see kind of black greasy shaving and it’s a bit stiff… turns but it’s not a smooth movement.
Where can I get o rings for the filter? I keep finding them for an XJ or the injectors and stuff like that
Great info!! Thanks so much
John, no problem, thank you for the feedback, regards Damian
Thank you - where did you buy this elegant gear knob?
@happyme5071, I bought this gear knob from eBay as a used part. There are lots used Jaguar gear knobs to choose from in different styles, regards Damian
So if I replace this my timing change should be a little bit better would you think
Isreal, it's worth a try even as it might only be a short term measure, regards Damian
On my last question is how do I replace this Do I need to support the timing chain or is it one of those where you remove it and you can put it back in
Isreal, you can remove the tensioner and replace it without locking the timing. That's why its so much simpler and easier, regards Damian
Thanks again for the great depth of your vids. One thing to be aware of - the I.D. threads for the valve extender are smaller than the standard I.D. threads of a normal shroeder valve, so universal valve extenders won't work. At least it was only a $7 lesson.
Frank, Thank you for the feedback and advice. Good to share our experiences, good and bad, regards Damian
Interesting to see the old brochures in detail. Was hoping they would mention the special lugs nuts on the BBS wheels, which I am having trouble finding a replacement for.
Frank, thank you for your feedback. The nut part number for the extended nuts is CCC7029U. SNG Barratt sell them see link www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/UK/parts/50177908-a612-4f58-8a77-ac433d4360e1?fromList=Search%20for%20%60Wheel%20nut%60 Hope that helps. There is more information about BBS wheels in the R Performance video see link th-cam.com/video/Vg8f7vlOJv0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1-eW5q3QeXmnPyWk Please let us know how you get on, regards Damian
@@ODRModurol Thank you that helps immensely - at least now I know what I'm looking for. Wow $$$
Frank, the the aftermarket nut are not too expensive. Also the same nuts where used for on other Jaguars before the BBS wheels. So lots of used parts available at more reasonable cost. Good luck, regards Damian
Hi . . and thanks for a great video and which has persuaded me into having a go at replacing all Ignition Coils and plugs. But can you help me with a very particular issue (for me). Could you describe a bit more clearly how you release the Ignition Coil 4 pin plugs/connections apart from each other. Now before you all jump up and slate me for asking a daft question, I'd ask you to appreciate that I'm disabled and do all car maintenance with using only my right hand. So . . "pushing down from the top whilst prising with a screw driver and pulling the plug/casing apart - carefully so as not to break" . . . can quite easily become the hardest and riskiest element of the whole job. Could I ask you to give an honest opinion of whether you could you disconnect the IG 4 pin plugs using only your right hand, because if that's impossible . . . I'm gonna have to (reluctantly) give the whole job to a garage. Cheers
Neil, hello XK8 enthusiast with an interesting question. To honest with you I couldn't imagine trying to do these jobs with only my right hand, especially as I am left handed ;). As you are even contemplating doing this, think you must be very capable of this job and many other tasks. I don't think unplugging the coil packs is a major concern. The coil plug plugs have a small plastic latch to prevent them coming loose. A screwdriver or similar item is used to unlatch them. You could leave the screwdriver in the plug so it remains unlatched, then pull off the socket. Just need to be careful to keep the screwdriver/or similar item in position and not to lose it when the socket comes off. Its probably going to be quite tight as not removed by often so will need some jiggling to free it off. LHS is a bit easier to do and I would advise starting that side. That's my thoughts but I would love to hear your feedback. Please let us know what you decided regards Damian
@@ODRModurol Hi Damian and thanks for your reply. Yeah it sounds pretty much like a standard spring latch arrangement and should be OK , I just couldn't see that clearly in the video. This "un-clipping" should be easy as the coil pack is static and in a fixed position as you apply force to detach. Sliding a plastic shim/feeler gauge in under the clip/latch is the default method. The ones that are (sometimes) impossible are those push/pull/clip/latch fasteners where both the plug and socket are "free floating". I've had to manage and to find a way for 40+ years, so I don't give-up too easily . . . but you gotta know when you are going to need help.!! cheers . . I'll let you know how I get on.
5:30 Thanks! It helped me a lot. I have the black master cyilinder so I have still the original fitted to my car because my car is late 1998. Thanks a lot !
@kalcine, no problem, regards Damian
10:44 MY2000 Brake booster upgrade: apart from the 3bolt fitting do you think there are other way to identify it?
@Kalcine, you can identify it from the master cylinder colour. 3 bolts have black painted cylinders and 4 bolt servos use silver aluminium cylinders. We have reviewed all the difference in another video. See link below. Hope that helps, regards Damian th-cam.com/video/TuzkV2t614g/w-d-xo.html
I have an XKR MY1999 vin number 033XXX and believe I have already the 325mm front discs fitted on my car.
@kalcine, quite possible that your have the 325mm disc. The easiest way to check is the clearance to the disc dust shield. They used the same dust shield on 305mm and 325mm disc assemblies. With the 305mm discs the dust shield is much larger than the disc. With the 325mm the dust shield is only slightly larger than the disc. Take a look at the gap and it should be obvious. Hope that helps, regards Damian.
Helpfull video but now seems to be out of date. My replacement 77 lathe has a different design where it attaches to the aluminium bar so both the bar and link point are different. May this redesign was to strengthen the strap - it looks stronger. This means I can't re-use the old aluminium bar as i cant fix the strap to it. I have temporariliy glues up the broken strap with epoxy resin. It might not be a good idea if its now stronger than before but I don't think it will last. I figured a DIY way to get the new aluminium back to fit to the top of the curtain. You can cut out notch at the top of the curtain a bit wider than the aluminium bar - this will allow you to slide off the old bar and slide in the new. Be sure to cut the notch to one side of where the bar will be. The notch is quite shallow and wont affect the integrity of the curtain but presumably might affect the warranty. The notch doest show from the outside and you'd have to know it was there to spot it from the inside so not really a cosmetic issue.
Michael, thank you for adding your updated solution to repairing the new design latches. I am sure it will help someone with their shutter door fix regards Damian
9:19 - what do you think these Sports wheels will fit to an early 1998 XKR ?
Kalci, yes the XJR Sport wheels should fit an unmodified 1998 XKR, regards Damian
@ODRModurol i have 325mm(oem calipers, oem everything) front discs so you say it must be a good fit.
@@ODRModurol I also see that the developement vehicle has sport wheels with center caps(hiding all the lug nuts.) interesting...
Thank you thank you thank you!!
@DulcimaDesign, no problem, glad it helped, regards Damian
Very nice XKR, do you know someone who is selling one ?
Carmine, sorry I don't know anyone selling one. They are very rare and sort after good luck with your search, regards Damian
Now, If we could just (easily) remove the overflow bottle, clean it out, and refill to proper level. Theyare usually quite gunked up with sticky debris.
@tarquineous, the overflow bottle can be removed to clean out fairly easily. The sticky debris is actually the remains of the old antifreeze, regards Damian
Where is the overflow tank on a 1998 XK*?
@tarquineous, the overflow tank is located behind the wheel arch liner in the front RHS wheel housing. More details available in tis video th-cam.com/video/IuCJ2X6NvjA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oVwOJ1i3Dkoguhf0 . Hope that answers your question, regards Damian
@@ODRModurol Yes it did. Thank you Damian !
You might want to drain a couple of litres out if the radiator first. And also the reservoir in the wheel well. BTW, thanks for pointing out the location of the reservoir.
@tarquineous, Thanks for the tip, regards Damian
Will clog up the dpf! That’s what had happened to mine!
Damion, sorry to hear you have had a problem. I suspect the clogged dpf was more to do with the fifth injector not working properly than anything to do with the EGR system. These Ford diesels have an extra injector mounted in the exhaust pipe just in-front of the dfp and injects diesel into it to help regenerate it. These can block up and stops dpf regeneration. Hope that helps and you get your car fixed, regards Damian
Does that J box veneer just pop off I need to refinish mine
@epic2000, not quite. Its actually quite tricky. There are several videos on the internet which might help. A link to ours is at the bottom of this comment. Hope that helps, regards Damian th-cam.com/video/kl0_mYlyZQA/w-d-xo.html

So the 4.2 cats just use any of the flange type cats online? It's just that they all say they are for 4.0 cars and not the 4.2. I also asked AutoReserve in the UK and they where pretty sure the 4.0 cats won't fit the 4.2 cars. Maybe they are just wrong? I just don't want to buy some cats for my car only to find they don't fit.
@Punisher9419, Autoreserve are correct, 4.2 uses CAT's with flanges connecting to the Middle silencer and the 4.0 just uses pipe inside pipe. Other than that the CAT's are the same but if you aren't changing the middle silencer then it's not a direct swop. Recommend looking underneath your car to confirm the CAT's have pipe flanges. Hope that helps, regards Damian.
@@ODRModurol Yea mine are the flange type so I can just use the flange cats and they should work I guess. Not sure if the bracket will work though but I'm not sure how necassery that is?

Another great video - thank you! Do you know if the little red led’s that indicate if the switch is on/pressed can be replaced? All the red LEDs on the bank of switch’s for the lights, seats, etc are out but the backlight blue lights still work - although I’ll still swap them to LEDs after watching 😊
Cameron, thank you for your support. The led's can be replaced but you need to be skilled with a soldering iron. The switches are individual so quite unusual for all the LED's to be blown. Might be something else and worth investigating before ordering LED's. Hope that helps, regards Damian.

Do you know if the special exaust on the stratstone edition is louder only when is heard from outside the card (and inside when you you are revving up) or is louder also when you drive it gently and slowly, compared to a normal XKR ?
@carminedepaola8018, sorry I haven't owned a Stratstone and therefore cannot give a definitive answer. However, suspect you are correct. The stratstone got a sport exhaust as a subtle upgrade to the exhaust sound not something really loud. They were bought as new cars so doubt the exhaust is excessive loud when driven normally, unless its been further modified or damaged. Hope that answers to questions, regards Damian
@@ODRModurol Do you know someone who sell a Stratstone edition XKR ?

Is it ok to leave out the plastic sheet when refitting the regulator. It goes between regulator and inside of inner door skin. It must be a type of damp inhibitor. Mines a bit chewed up ?
@litch3000, the plastic sheets are water shedders. It's not a massive problem to leave them out but I would recommend trying to retain them as much as possible. With them in place you are less likely to have issues with water ingress and drafts through the door cards. Hope that helps, regards Damian
Thank you so much. Top bloke

How do I add these if my Kuga came without puddle lights? Do I need a new mirror assembly? Or do I just cut it out?
@ZpaztiK_TaktikZ, . You can just cut the hole out but you need to check inside the mirror that the wiring loom has the wiring for the puddle light. Without that you will need to run a wire from the side lights into the mirror. Hope that helps, regards Damian
@ODRModurol thank you!

You didn't show much. How do you disconnect it?
Emeka Aimé, once you have removed the mirror there are two wires connected for the heated mirror function. These are spade connectors and can be simply pulled off. Hope that helps, regards Damian
Only driver's under 5 feet 8 inches tall need apply.
@mikedx2706, the drivers seat adjustment is limited for people with relatively short legs. You can modify the seat position and pedals position to improve this but not straightforward, regards Damian
I have a problem with the power steering on my XK8. Basically it has stopped working suddenly. There are no leaks of the steering fluid, no squeaks from the pump, the serpentine belt doesn't appear to be slack, the reservoir is still full. So I'm perplexed as to what has failed. Do you have any idea what could have caused this failure ?
@paulcharlesworth319, If the power steering has stopped suddenly it's probably an internal seal failure. However, there is a fluid filter in the bottom of the power steering fluid tank. It's quite common on a lot of cars that these filters can clog and restrict fluid flow. This causes the power steering gradually stop working properly due to fluid starvation. Might want to check the filter. Hope that helps, regards Damian
@@ODRModurol thankyou for your advice, I will have a look at the filter if it's not too difficult to get at. Paul.
Paul, unfortunately, its permanently fixed in the bottom of the fluid tank. Non serviceable item without buying a new tank, regards Damian
Thanks!
@laurentiupopa9576, no problem, thank you, regards Damian
What does the Sport mode even do? My XKR feels the same in sport mode and non sport mode. In the 2009 XF SV8 and the 2018XF 3.0D you notice the different behavior on the revs. But on my X104 XKR I don’t get what’s different.
@Phillsen, The sport button alters the shift points to higher up the rev range. The idea is to give access to more of the engines power band. However, practically almost most no noticeable difference, especially with old transmission oil and TCM learning your driving style. The best way to access more power to hold the gears with the manual side of the J gate. Hope that helps, regards Damian
Hi Damian. Sorry I have not kept up with your project. So from what I understand you need to grab data from an early X100? Is it worth putting out an appeal for somebody with a suitable car to plug in to? Mine is too new otherwise I would be happy to help.
Andrew, thanks for your comment and support. Good idea, I might just do that, regards Damian
My old uses 27mm socket but new one i bought from BMW uses 24mm i am confused if they gave me wrong one.
@asimk9518, we found the same thing when we changed ours, quite normal. See our more detailed video on the subject and the tools required at 4:12 in. Link at the bottom of this message. Hope that helps and good luck, regards Damian. th-cam.com/video/kpsuXcgiQhU/w-d-xo.html
BMW updated the tensioner to a much stronger with 24mm head.
Its that damn easy to steal a mirror? How nice. I just got robbed of my driver's side sometime today 😐
Albert, sorry someone stole your mirror glass. Cannot see why anyone would brother as they are so cheap to purchase replacement ones. Hopefully, you have better luck with the replacement, regards Damian.
