    Hi Al, I had a box full of these old transformers. I trashed them because I got so tired of storing them and the fact that they were very dangerous. One of the names that I remember was a Jefferson that went up to 25 volts. Great video as usual! 👍

      @@alsvintagetoytrains7042 Yes, it is unfortunate that many pieces no longer have the original boxes. I wound up getting reproduction ones for the ones I had without boxes. Almost everything I have is post war. I often wonder what Lionel would have been like if they didn't continuously try to make things cheaper or lower quality.

    • @alsvintagetoytrains7042
      @alsvintagetoytrains7042 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jrmeindl Interesting thoughts come to mind for me about the cheapening and lower quality during the postwar period. First was Lionel continuing with realism right after WWII with the advent of the knuckle couplers. My first thoughts are with the coil couplers changing to the magnetic starting in 1948. They achieved the same operation of the couplers while lowering their production costs by not having a coil in every coupler and placing that into the UCS. It lowered the cost while not really taking away from the quality. 1950 was a pinnacle year with the introduction of Magnatraction and celebrating their 50th anniversary with the 773 Hudson and the Yellow FAs. I think the cheapening began as Lionel became the largest toy manufacturer and Joshua slowly handing over the operations of the company to his son. I think 1952 to 1953 was where we begin to see cheapening to keep up with production when the famous F3s started losing details such as the screen mesh ventilators and losing hand applied grab irons to lower the cost of production. The F3s lost the port hole lenses in 1955 and then went to plastic trucks on most rolling stock by 1957/58. The 746 engine was kind of the last real new premium engine and things quickly went downhill from there as trains began losing popularity.
