While we all gravitate towards the high end 726s, 671s, and the like, it’s nice to see someone else who appreciates the lower line that Lionel produced. It’s those sets that basically paid the bills for Lionel because they were cheap enough to put under many Christmas trees and get people started with model railroading. I have a few Scout sets that I just love the absolute cheapness of them. It’s probably because in my other hobby of cars and hot rods, I love the cheap stripper models that were just basic transportation. Great video!!
You have excellent ephemera to go with the sets, very cool. 😎👍 I use 1121 turnouts, which work well with single reduction motors. But I have no desire to service sealed motors so I shy away from them. Great looking set!
Thanks! I have no desire to change the O-Gauge track on this layout. However, my second layout (work in progress) has one mainline loop without any switches that I can run this engine, and a couple others, without issues.

Very nice set. I think we steer towards the more expensive sets. But in reality Lionel probably sold a lot more sets at the lower price points. I know I can relate to sets at this price point as a kid. I enjoyed this video. Ken
I thought about that, but I am too much of a purist to modify something in excellent original shape. My other layout, that is in progress of being set up, has a main line without switches for the purpose of running these.
Good eye! The set behind it is outfit 1405W which has the same rolling stock cars, but with the 1666 engine and plastic whistling tender. I guess that would have made a good talking point that I could have covered.

One of the references mentioned it was a popular set and that Lionel produced a second production run.
The e unit tripping issue can be fixed by adding a pickup on one of the tender trucks.
