    Yikes, I hope all goes well on repairs. I also want to thank you as It's a great warning to myself as I plan on expanding my simple 5x9 layout into a much larger one, and I plan on utilizing the space along my basement wall under my drainage pipe. Now I know to plan for the worst and have some sort of removable pannels for access and or repairs for my plumbing down the road. Never-ending the typical hatches for derailment and / or track maintenance.

      Reconstruction of the soffit is completed as of today. Painting is also complete. Now to replace a few sections of track to get back to operating trains!
      I'm glad the video brought some awareness of things to watch out for!
      I will be back on track with new videos shortly.

    That’s everyone’s worst fear. Sorry to hear about the leak Al. I hope none of your trains were damaged. 😢

      Thanks. At least nothing of value was hurt or destroyed. It is just the work now needed to replace/repair and paint in that corner before I can start working on the layout.

      A wall to wall layout can be a night mare since you can’t just pull it away from the wall. Over head plumbing leaks don’t care what’s under it. Good luck on the repairs. Are you doing repairs yourself or hire it out? What about access to over head sheet rock above layout, is any disassembly required?

      @@genemanno1533 I hired a plumber to make the needed repairs. I opened up the soffit and am in process of rebuilding the soffit myself. I just have to add the corner bead and finish taping. The ceiling is an acoustic drop ceiling. Luckily all I had to do was remove the perimeter "L" at the soffit location. I hope to have it finished next week so that I can get the layout back up and running.

    Good luck with your repairs. Since so much of the equipment we accumulate has obviously encountered water, dust, neglect, heat, and cold and still kept running, I suspect your layout's recovery will be swift.

    I have that Sunoco tank car! It was always one of my favorite cars as a kid, so my dad gave it to me. I've had it for close to 40 years...

    Sorry to hear about the layout Al! That’s what bothered me about making my layout, was knowing that it would be surrounded by pipes and ducts and that I would have no clue what my house has planned next! I just found your channel the other day in my recommended so I’ll be looking forward to seeing more postwar videos since you’re the only upstate NY postwar collector I know of! Hopefully it won’t be too long until you can get the trains back in operation!

      Thanks! Luckily no trains on the layout were harmed. I have 4 pieces of O-72 curved track to replace. So not terrible. I'm not looking forward to rebuilding the soffit though.

      I have made the repairs to the soffit and ceiling to include painting. I've also replaced the rusted track. Just cleaning up a few more things on the layout and should be up and running again shortly.

    Ah jeeepers. That looks like fun and a half! Does the benchwork support your weight or did you have to disassemble it?

    • @alsvintagetoytrains7042
      @alsvintagetoytrains7042  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bench work luckily supported my weight and the weight of the plumber who replaced the PVC piping. I have just enclosed the soffit with Sheetrock, but still need to finish the corner bead, taping, and painting before getting the layout up and running.

    • @alsvintagetoytrains7042
      @alsvintagetoytrains7042  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Thankfully no engines or rolling stock were damaged on the layout. I just have to replace some of the O-72 curved tracks. Under the table was a Lionel Hobo train set from around 2005 or 06 and I had to toss the set box and some individual boxes, but the trains seemed to be okay. I hope to get things back together in a couple of weeks. The soffit is the next big project followed by getting the layout back up and running.

  • @rennethjarrett4580
    @rennethjarrett4580 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Unless you are very fussy, the track can be lightly cleaned with a scotch bright pad, or even better yet run a engine like a cast iron Marx that has no rubber drives and have it pull enough car that you and make the wheels slip. Run it through that area for about 10 to 20 minutes and your track will be fin for other trains. However watch that spot and if the rust doe progress, then you might have to replace them. I have old track that had rust on them, and as long as the pins are clean an tight, and the top running surface is mostly rust free they will run just fine.

    • @alsvintagetoytrains7042
      @alsvintagetoytrains7042  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. I have O-72 curved tracks on hand, so it won't be an issue. I just have to work above the layout to replace that part of the soffit and paint before getting to the layout repairs. At least nothing of value was destroyed.
