Al, what a gorgeous set. Beautiful shape.

Thanks. I was excited to find them in such good shape. However, the wires were brittle on the tender, search light car, and dump car, so the required replacement wires.

I’m amazed at the condition of that set Al. It looks absolutely beautiful!

Thank you! I was quite pleased with how well kept the set was. I was lucky to pick up some very nice items sold by the family of the original owner.

Al, that’s a very impressive set.

The 1666 engine looks so detailed and realistic compared to the rest of the set. The appearance of rail cars and tender appears to be out of place with the handsome appearance of the die cast 1666 locomotive. Obviously the plastic injection molding capability was in infant stages yet so sheet metal was economical for the time. The upper end Lionel scale trains were more realistic, but costly. Still nice to see.😊

Good observations. Lionel offered the plastic and more realistic tender to this engine in the same outfit with the new 1195W set designation in 1941. They also added a nicer tin plate Caboose. The 1095W set was a good value with the coal elevator and set of switches added in for $29.50. I hate the metal tenders because you can only bend the tabs a few times to service the whistle motor before they break.

Awesome set in excellent condition. I have the same tender in gunmetal that came with a 224E.

Thanks! Late prewar is pretty cool and becoming more appealing to me. Enjoy your trains.

    What a beautiful set.
I had no idea that there were differences in those couplers. I have only managed to acquire a few of them over the years and never noticed. Now I’m going to have to take a closer look at what I have.
It looks like a tornado went through the middle of your layout 😂

Thanks! The tornado was another project with two other sets. I have too many trains and I am running out of room on the shelves and under the tables. Lol

Thank you John! Late prewar and early to middle postwar is probably my favorite timeframe for Lionel.

That set is in outstanding condition considering its age. As a person who worked in a production environment for 28 years. Whenever engineering would make a change. Sometimes for cost savings and other times to improve the design . There never was a set date as to when the change would take place usually. I find it fascinating that with Lionel there seems to be all these changes that seem to take place on January 1rst or when the next years models are being produced. On another note. It’s fascinating to look at all the realistic improvements that took place after WW2.

Are there any websites that focus on prewar lionel trains? Everything Google finds are about the postwar trains and accessories.

      @alsvintagetoytrains7042  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Nothing I could find like Tandem or other postwar sites.

@alsvintagetoytrains7042 That's what I figured, unfortunately. What about books? I just bought a prewar O-27 set off eBay, and I want to try and learn some more about it.

@@SOU6900I just recently did a video regarding references. I know I went overboard on this video as it is an hour long discussing references for both postwar and Prewar Lionel. But you could skip ahead to the few I have on Prewar Lionel. th-cam.com/video/7S14Gq2SoAc/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared

@alsvintagetoytrains7042 I'll check it out. Thanks. Actually, this video about your 1095W set has helped even. It's got the same style box couplers as the car in the set you got, and I could probably figure it what set I have coming just by going back through this video to when you got the guide book out.
Edit: So going back to this video it's looking like this is a 1093 set maybe. Got the same cars at the one at 4:47.

What happened to that Jersey Central switcher that appears to be on its side?

    • @alsvintagetoytrains7042

It was temporarily set aside. I am quickly running out of room for storage of trains on and under the two layouts and my shelves are full. Lol
