Hi Al, I have this exact set. It belonged to my Uncle Albert who past when I was 7 years old. The caboose is missing the truck with the coupler on it. The engine is in beautiful condition with the exception that it only lights up. The motor will not run, I can hear the unit switching but no motor movement. I’m going to have to open her up and go in and check the commentator and see what’s going on. Thank you so much for making these videos my friend. Frank 😊
Frank, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Note this 1946 Turbine is a double worm drive. Besides cleaning up the commutator and brushes, you will need to remove the 4 screws holding the E-Unit in place and remove the old grease from the shaft and gears and then add some new grease. There is a brass housing with bearing at each end of that shaft that will need to be oiled as well. Good luck getting that engine back up and running! The 1946 turbines and Berkshires were not great smokers, which is why Lionel changed to the heated coil smoke units.
Al don't know how many times I can tell you how superb this is. I have these as well with the exception of the 3459 in silver. What candy you running in the 3454, black, brown or red? Mine has the harder to find black..
