Planted Aquarium Expert. With a knack to make you laugh! When I first started I needed someone to physically show me what to do. Unfortunately the majority of TH-camrs don't pull the plant out and give you a visual walkthrough. I decided all my tutorials would be hands on to help others in those fragile times.
I've been there. You literally feel like you're constantly making mistakes and it isn't until after the fact we find out.
Anxiety City! Lol

New subscriber here 😊 I would like to see a video on how to propagate cardinal plants. I just bought some val, and I am excited to see it take off. Thanks for sharing this video 😊
Welcome 😁
Thank you for posting this video! You just helped this aquarium novice save her new java ferns!
You're welcome 😁
Free base them and smoke them!
😂
How many are you keeping together?
3
Scrapped with a razor blade. Did not work.
Sorry to read that 😔
@@yourtap No prob. Ordered another one.
What if put Durt in Bags and then put the sand on top of the Bags
Never tried it. I'm not opposed to new things. Dirt is cheap. If you try it let us all know 🤙
I had one for over three months before seeing this. I took it out and cut the string off. I took the babies off too. Well see what happens. 😅 Thanks.
Thank you for watching ☺️
Man, I wish I saw this when I started a year ago. I began with a 10gal when I rescued some guppies and went to Petco and bought Java fern because it was presented as the easy plant. Lo and behold they all died off after a couple of weeks. Rinse and repeat, I went back to Petco and purchased them again. Same thing happened. Since then, I haven’t purchased more because I’ve been too scared to kill more. I actually have some babies propagated from the original Petco Java fern but I never knew or paid enough attention to the original rhizomes. Thanks for spreading this info on TH-cam because even after a year owning fish in a serious manner, I had not known this. Time to head back to the store to see if there’s thread that I’ve missed all along!
Just found the native version growing in my wetland here in Michigan. Apparently they were a big starch crop for native here. A few going in my mangrove tank. Bonus, ther are non-toxic for cats too.
Free plants is always nice. They cycle tanks quickly as well 🤙
Super simple solution!!! THANK YOU! 🫧 🐠 You have a new sub! 👍
I'm happy you enjoyed it! 😁
Will my Java fern reproduce and take over the tank I have couple small Java fern?, love your videos.
A thriving plant can definitely take over a tank. Thank you 🤙
. I have a question..If we keep tank dry for 24 hours will anchor worms survive
I honestly don't know the answer to that. I'm sorry. I pulled the ones off hanging from my fish and I never saw any in this tank ever again.
Anchor worm survival is very less for a fish is what I experienced... even you have pulled them, their eggs are ij the fish and it would have already affected all other fishes
Thank you!
You're welcome!
A thousand thank yous. My first tank was a toxic sh💩t show. I wish I found this video first
You're welcome 😁
Thank you so much for making this video. I'm new to planted aquariums, and I've already had to restet a tank because I over did it with stratum. I became really good at growing algae and killing fish. What are your thoughts about the dark start method? That's what i'm going to try next.
I don't have a opinion on it because I haven't done it before. Never be scared to try something new. Let me know how it turns out 🤙
THANK YOU. Tbh my beautiful Java Fern Windelov had been making so many babies which I glued to rocks. I never realized I needed to remove the black thread from the original..... Now it's freed and I have SO many plants!!!!! YAY
I'm happy to read this 🤙
I was just going to use pea gravel in my aquarium for low maintenance plants. Would I be able to use the pea gravel instead of the blasting sand?
If you're going to be using Rhizome plants like ferns and Anubis, pebbles are fine. If you're trying to use it in conjunction with dirt; eventually the pebbles will make their way below the dirt.
I watched this video on 2024
I always LOVE seeing your videos. No you're not annoying you're awesome as always dude. But when it comes to Christmas moss how you glued that one moss couldn't you do that with C mos as well ? Or would that end up being a messy disaster? 😄... And as far as people leaving I wouldn't worry about it because I've been a sub since I can remember and I haven't left and won't. People are always out to get what they want👀❗❗ Here I am commenting on a video 2yrs old because I wanted to reeducate myself 😄 But here I am talking a lot so im gonna shut up now😄 ps remember the right people will always stay ❣❣❣
You can use glue on any moss really. The part that had contact with the glue will melt. You wouldn't notice. I'm happy you enjoy watching the videos. I like reading comments. Feel free to drop a line anytime 🤙
@@yourtap I will do, do you have a discord channel?
@@Zezhuanth_Irthos , I don't. I didn't make this channel to profit. It's a genuine following of my learning to a experienced hobbyist. It's a hobby of real free advice. I don't make videos anymore except for shorts because I'm required to unless I'd like to lose partnership.
@@yourtap Yeah I wouldn't want to do that either for many reasons. I was just curious, because I always love learning about what I love 😁. And the more you learn the better everything is for the living worlds we create❣️❣️ I always say we are forever learning. Because there's always going to be something that comes your way to make you say I gotta look into that.
@Zezhuanth_Irthos That's some solid life advice. I'm going to pin this thread 🤙
thank you so much for these 3 videos!! Have you tried to use gravel instead of this sand? I'm thinking, because gravel particles are bigger than sand particles, gravel is less likely to settle and go below the flourite and therefore the 3 layers are more likely to maintain their integrity in the long term. thanks again.
Thanks for watching 🤙 Let me know how your combo works!
Fluval Gro+ is just micro nutrients. No macros which is nitrates, phosphates and potassium. Also, ADA Amazonia isn't leaching micros and macros into the water column. It will release ammonia due to its organics for a handful of weeks, but thats it. The power in an aquasoil is its CEC. Its ability to absorb nutrients from the water column, not release it. And inert substrates do not provide any nutrients at all. That is what they are labeled as inert. Fluorite is calcified clay, so it doesn't breakdown nor does it exchange with the water column. The CEC for Fluorite is around 4. Gravel is 1.7, EcoComplete, which is just lava rock is 14-16, and aquasoils are around 45-50 depending on the brand. So with inert substrates you still need to use root tabs otherwise they will "get nothing". Iron also doesn't make plants red. High PAR does. Also a nitrate deficit of 5ppm or less can help push reds as well. Also, dosing Thrive doesn't spike nitrites. Thrive+ might as it has urea in it. But regular thrive won't. If you have a low tech tank, you just dose enough to boost your nitrates up an additional 10ppm from where they normally sit, and your good to go. Depending in you lights and the amount of plants you have, this dose can be different for everyone. But regular Thrive won't kill your fish if you dose it correctly. Thrive and Easy Green are essentially the same at this point. Over time EasyGreen has just copied Thrives recipe, there isn't a huge difference in micros and macros. And yes, Flourish is water down trash. HAHAHA. Its meant to be used with ALLL their other bottles. If you google Seachem Dosing Schedule, you can find what they want you to dose and its just an antiquated way of dosing ferts now that good all in ones like Thrive are around. And fish don't provide potassium which is what you planted tank needs the most off. If you use cheap dried fish food, that will provide a little phosphates. The fish will produce some nitrates, depending on how much you have, but nothing is providing potassium. So we don't get everything needed from fish or their waste. Would love to do a live stream with you to cover nutrients for planted tanks :)
First week with my shrimp, did a water change, I thought that’s what I have to do, I’m taking care of shrimp, well… after some hour went to see them and one of them fall dead in front of me, next day another one. I started searching around internet and I found out, you can’t do water changes like with fish, learned my lesson. I feel your pain, and I know this was my fist mistake, but it won’t be the last.
im a noob that is looking into it all before I get my aquarium, VERY helpful, thank you so much!
Thanks!I like o lote👍going to try now😂
Hehe. These sauces are fun to try when I build up to them. I tend to cycle up & down between being a no spice wimp to a reaper freak throughout the year. I did enjoy some reaper cheese last year as well. Working up to the Last Dab XXX sauce to try soon.
Hi...Did you quit the hobby? Your videos were very good, let us know please 😊
I had a baby. My aquariums take care of themselves. It was the goal. New born gets all of the attention now. I do still respond. I'm sorry I didn't see this notification sooner.
@@yourtap Great news!😊 Hope the baby is ok too! Maybe she/he can push to take a video together with the tanks in the future 😊.Stay safe 👍
Hello from 2024
I made this mistake with my first African water fern in a tube. Couldn’t tell if it was black string or dark roots holding the bunch together and was a noob (still a bit of a noob in this). I tied the bundle to drift wood and that plant has never looked good. Still holding in there but looks bad while the rest of the tank is flourishing. Great tip man!
Thanks for sharing 🤙
I wish you had a list ✌️👍🙏🇨🇦
Mine are always changing 🤙
Your funny bro HAHAHHAHAH thanks for the information and its easy to understand keep it up bro
I appreciate it bro 🤙
Congratulations
Thank you 😊
Can I put it in large gravel substrate? Like marble sized stones
I don’t have the ability to glue them to something I’m hoping showing the root balls into larger gravel will work
If you don't have direct pressure on the roots and they are free to attach themselves; larger stones would be preferable unless you don't mind them connecting to piles of stones permanently. It's more of a cosmetic decision on your part. Hope that helps 🤙
Dude I just bought a clearanced red Malaysian red plant and it’s doing exactly what you said with growing roots out of its leaves. Should I just cut the root out of the leaf and shove it down into my gravel?
Such a cute baby ❤
Thank you! ❤️
Thanks for this! I just bought some Vallisneria and was wondering if you could propagate it at all
Is the big floating bush in the center (15:05) just guppy grass? It's so pretty and greeen!
Water sprite mixed with guppy grass and hornwort. 🤙
Poor Do-nut, thanks for helping us keep our babies safe!
You're welcome 😁
They recommend putting two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to tanks larger than 55 gallons Darren power outages it does not increase oxygen but it does decrease carbon dioxide is what it said
That’s cadmium
So yellow as my balls? Makes sense 🤙
I'm having great results with organic soil + fine gravel to lock it down and make it anoxic + a good layer of stratum, but it's still been less than a year.
I found this video because my java fern windelov is turning black, and the place I bought it from never mentioned anything about leaving the rhizome unburried, AND I had no idea there was a string wrapped around the ends! I just cut it off and wedged the plants between some sticks, so hopefully it'll bounce back! (or at least propagate babies)
Keep with it 🤙
What grid size or mesh size did you use for the blasting sand?
Fine
Can i just stick them like 3-4 plants together in between rocks or woods after removing the black strings? Like without glueing them?
Absolutely! Do it however you like it my friend 😄
Oh wow i judtordered 25 java ferns windelov came in potted, i stick all of them in between small hole of rocks and woods, but never knew i have to take off the strings..now i have to take all of them out one by one and remove the string or they all going to die, thank you so much!
Thanks for the info. I'm going to take the string off
You're welcome. Thanks for saying Hi 🤙
Thanks! I stumbled upon this video and pulled mine and sure enough I missed the string!
Glad I could help!
I have a question that i can't find a clear answer to, if i may. When the leaves grow too long can you cut them to a desired height or do the leaves totally die off once cut? Some yes you can some say no you can't, im confused.
You can cut wherever you want on the leaves. They will eventually melt away once snipped. This applies to every plant in existence. Plants can't heal themselves. Hope that helps 🤙
@yourtap Thanks for your reply
You're welcome my friend!
Shout out to all the visual learners it helps so much when you showed us how to propagate and warned of runners
