I have the same scroll saw. Mine was made in 1991, and I got the manual with it also. The gears that move the blade up and down make a lot of noise. Yours sounds better than mine. I partially disassembled it to try to figure out what the specific cause of the noise was. I never figured out exactly what is causing the unpleasant noise. It’s been in a partially disassembled state now for almost a decade..

Nice haul the craftsman grinder is really cool and that large plate caught my eye to try on mine . the tap and dies I just brought a box of assorted taps all vintage and USA and we all know the cost of just one quality tap or die . I was telling a lady today at Lowes I'm tool and hardware nut, I have zero room for any more but I'll find room

That "knockable" screwdriver was made by The Tobrin tool company in Southington, Connecticut . Tobrin's founder William S. Thomson , previously served as vice president and general manager of H.D Smith and company, so you know it's got a good pedigree .

I'm surprised Vessel still uses the Tatara to smelt their steel. I got a chance to see this in action when in Japan at the Wakou Museum in Okuizumo. It was a long 24 hour experience, starting at the buttcrack of dawn we shaped clay into bricks then formed the Tatara with it. Its sort of a pyramid shaped smelter on a raised stone platform with a slide connected to it that has Iron Sand placed onto it then has charcoal dumped into it until the Iron Sand gets red hot and molten slag begins flowing down the slide connected to the Tatara, they even had a Shinto Priest come out and bless it before we began, saying a a prayer to the Goddess of Metal Kanayago. Wild ass way to extract iron from sand, I still have a chunk of that steel we made that day. Japan never had much iron so if they were going to make something from it they made damn well sure it was good and was going to last.

Awesome tool man, I’m a little envious - I’ve drooled over some of the battery powered chainsaws for quite sometime. I’ve got gas and electric that tends to be my go to, but someday I’ll change over. Glad you are happy with it and pulled the trigger on it.

I made a replacement key from a nylon electrical outlet safety cover. I had to trim the legs to length and width, but it worked just fine.
