    Tom! Awesome video! It only takes a couple meets before you become addicted like the rest of us! (Jacktown too) I wish we had it every month! I have 2 videos coming out on the meet, Monday's where I will restore some dollar tools and Wednesday where I will feature some nicer items... I think that Craftsman ratchet for $5 was a fantastic buy. Great stuff!!!!!!!!

    My first thought when I saw the two tool handle was the same as CalebTG. It looks like a tool for setting valve lash, one handle for the locknut and the other for the adjustment. But that's just a guess.

  • @CalebTG
    @CalebTG ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would guess that multi handled tool is for some kind of valve adjustment.

  • @GWP323
    @GWP323 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tom...Nice little haul. Those Klein multi-taps are great and you can replace the taps if they wear out or get broken. When you are not using it store it with the small side in the handle. The 6/32 portion is small enough if you drop it it might break off.
    George

    Every item in this bunch is fantastic, the sound of that Craftsman ratchet is rather soothing..........Scout came thru, finding old metal boxes in that condition is getting tougher all the time.....The vise is a real gem, some quick searching and at least one person says the "506" means Colombian made it and the earliest catalog he could find it in was from the 60s so it's sounds like your guesses were on target.

    • @TomGunnTools

    Hey Tom I just picked up that same large ratchet but mine says New Britain. That other ratchet is cool too. You’re right about shimming up the anvil to take the play out. Catus Maximus has a video on it. Love the vise and Klein threading tool. Great stuff! Take care 😃👍🏼

    It's a beautiful view you picked up. A lot of guys use inch thick hardwood for the Jaws which looks well enough, but it cost you 2 in of working envelope. There's a product sometimes called masonry board, it's a phenolic product that is extremely hard and has no grain. It's usually sold about an eighth and an inch thick or a quarter inch and it's very inexpensive. It might not be as sexy as a lee valley catalog, but it will work better and it's very easy to remake the jaws, I usually cut four or five pairs at a time using a jig. Because it's very thin, you have to be a little fussy about the length of the screws, but it is worth the trouble. It grips very very hard and yet it absolutely will not mark up the work

    • @TomGunnTools
      @TomGunnTools  ปีที่แล้ว

  • @jpsimon206

    I'm not sure if I've used the Klein version, but I've used several of these stepped taps. I hope you don't take it badly if I suggest that you order one or two replacements of the actual tap insert now. Klein is probably less likely to do so then a less reputable company, but I've noticed the trend in recent years of slightly changing the design just enough that it is no longer compatible, functionally making the tool disposable. I don't remember the brand I bought, but it was about $15 yet the inserts were less than $6 each! I also discovered that they work perfectly in a nut driver so you can skip buying the tool and just get a few of the inserts, get twice as many cutters and save 20% while you're doing it

    You could find a brass tube with the same i.d. as the o.d. of the shaft and the drill the hole to tho.d. of the tube and insert it and cut the length.. I've done it on carbs when the butterfly shift wears the body out .. works good 👍

    Ah forgot to ask Bruce about those clamps. I emailed Scout about them, but forgot to ask him what they were used for. I think it's welding since it's such a narrow grips.

    Nice stuff Tom! I've got the exact same style Herbrand ratchet, mine half inch though. I found a Herbrand socket set right here in the Netherlands but it was missing it's ratchet. I found the ratchet a couple of weeks later in Sweden! I've got one of those Crafstman ratchets too actually, only mine is under the New Britain brand. And all afore mentioned are waiting to be cleaned 😂

    It's to adjust valves, no? If I'm terribly wrong, just ignore me. I've never done mechanic work at all, very comfortable with mechanical engineering, just not into all of these computers involved.

  • @jpsimon206
    @jpsimon206 ปีที่แล้ว

    Based on context I presume that the c-clamp is not simply a clamp missing the foot? I can't think of how else it might be used. The only thing that comes to mind is the lamps that are on machine tools, I've seen a few that use a c-clamp type item very similar for mounting the lamp into threaded fittings in several different locations around the machine. But all the ones I've seen like that have a straight shaft, sort of like a beam clamp so that the lamp slides over it and uses a ball detent very much like a socket wrench. Yours appears to be heart-shaped, something about that is bugging me as being very familiar, but I cannot bring it to mind. What is its intended purpose?

    I never imagined I would look back on Craftsman tools as some of my favorites. I started out with a Blackhawk 3/8 and 1/4 drive set that came in black soft case. Does anyone remember those? It has been so long I had to think for a bit. New Britain tool followed that and then Snap on moved into my boxes. Full circle, I'm starting to grab the Craftsman tools at yard sales. I'll video more of them tHanks for this video!
