    Those are some great sets of SK tools... I bought a set of 3/8 drive, six-point metric SK sockets in 1965. I had bought an older German import and needed tools to work on it, and SK was one of the few companies that had them available. I lived in a small town and did not have access to a Sears store to get a set of Craftsman tools, but the local auto parts store carried SK brand tools, and thanks to the popularity of VWs, some metric tools were on the shelf. I still have them and use them often...

    Beautiful SK tool sets! I never would’ve guessed that the vintage ratchet was a valve adjustment tool🤣! Speaking of vintage ratchets great work getting that shim to make it work like new again. Definitely worth the time and effort👍

    Your s-k box turned out great. Tid bit, that box is a combo box, but it’s for an SAE set. The spot where your universal is, is for the 4 deep sae sockets and then the 4 mid length sockets fit next to them. I have a couple of these boxes myself. Your fathers old 1/2 inch set is gorgeous. I bet your very proud of that one. It looks like new. Always love your s-k videos Tom. Thanks.

    Tom, the tool in the beginning of the program is a "None Better AF-11x". It is made by New Britain whom also list the wrench under the same designation AF-11x. Herbrand also made a very similar if not identical version of the tool called "AT-52". The tool is for adjusting the rear band of the FordOMatic / Mercomatic automatic transmissions 1951-1957. It also fits the Lincoln and Studebaker 1956-1957. The tool is listed in the 1959 version of the New Britain Tool Catalog. I sent Kent a pic of the catalog page. Probably a handy tool if you have a 55-57 T-Bird.

      @@TomGunnTools Not easy to forget, drove from Connecticut to California in February, water pump gave up outside Denver on a Sunday, good lord had his hand on my shoulder , while limping into town on US40 I spy a repair location that rents tools they also had a pump and antifreeze, $20.00 total cost.
      I left Connecticut with $100.00 in my pocket, plenty of money as gas was about 28 cents on average,after leaving Denver had to reroute to US66, arrived in Barstow broke and out of gas, 60 mph headwinds across Arizona brought milage down to about 7-8 mpg. Wired my plight to grandfather, telegraph agent gave me $2.00 out of his own pocket for me to eat, grandfather wired me $20.00, tried to reimburse telegraph agent but he wouldn’t accept it. Wednesday I bought the S&K set. Some of life’s events one never forgets.
      The good lord has always had his hand on my shoulder.

    I'm not so sure that the vise is from the 50's.
    The A's in the Craftsman logo don't look pointed, and they went to the flat tipped " barn roof " A's in the early 70's.
    Maybe that was only for hand tools ?
    Obviously the 50's logo and the 60's Crown logo have barn roof A's, but the pointed A on hand tools at least went away in the early 70's.

    Where SK ratchets known as the best in the 1970s?
    I spoke to a mechanic who worked in those years and recall how he spoke highly of SK.

    Hi Tom, awesome vid and showcase as usual!! Got a question for the expert though. I just scored a vintage SK tool box that is quite old, im guessing 50's or 60's, and its got that similar crinkle paint that your dad's old socket set box had. I am very curious and somewhat cautious that the paint might be lead based because there are rust spots on the paint but not on the actual metal under it. If you know anything about that I would be very grateful if you could let me know! Thanks tom

    • @TomGunnTools
      @TomGunnTools  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Max, nice score! my guess most all paint from that period had lead in it. The chrome on those sockets clean up awesome! 👍👍
