Hey Kooks! I'm Brandon, the San Diego Kook. In this channel I share my passion for saltwater fishing in Southern California. Come along to see me show you some of the best ways to catch bluefin tuna, yellowtail, dorado, halibut and other San Diego offshore fishing species. Beer and food are always present, as we navigate the mighty pacific ocean in search of the next trophy catch.
Fishing for BIG Yellowtail in San Diego
Ben, Mike and I competed in the BD Outdoors (Bloody Decks) Yellowtail shootout fishing tournament this year and had an amazing time! We caught a couple of big yellowtail fishing both offshore kelp paddies and inshore at La Jolla. We trolled the Rapala X Rap Magnum lure for a last minute fish to give us a total bag weight of 52.2 lbs. An amazing day fishing the Pacific Ocean for pelagics in Southern California!

Henry and I went out in search of the giant bluefin tuna that were biting at the pens all week. We quickly pivoted when the bite was slow and headed further west in search of bluefin tuna and yellowtail while fishing kelp paddys. We went fishing at the Coronado Islands in search of Yellowtail, but the bite was slow so we opted for some rock fishing. We were able to catch several big red vermillion rockfish, as well as a really nice Ling cod while fishing live bait sardines on the dropper loop. Today we were fishing at the Coronado Islands, a small island chain just across the border 13 miles from San Diego. We were trolling the Nomad DTX lure in search of California Yellowtail. What size colt sniper is best for each application?
Not an expert there. But I find the 100 to 120 gram.size.tp be the sweet spot. Easy to cast into foamers and small enough to trick em

That is a stellar bag dude. Also fished the shootout. Decided to go to SCI. Took 5 hours, was brutal 😂. Got one around 5lbs. All you could want bass though. Every spot was an instant bight on 16-20 inch calicos.
I heard there were a ton of boats out there! Still haven't been on my own boat definitely want to try sometime.

Trying to talk my buddy into going down there. Is there anything you need, specifically license wise to be legal? Do you need Mexican fishing permits? Thanks and awesome video.
I highly recommend you check out the Sportfishing Association of California website. It has all the details step by step of everything you need. To fish the islands you need a passport, Mexican boat permit, biosphere bracelet, Mex fishing license and an FMM. All explained on the website.
@@SDKook thank you. I’ll check it out. I called Fisherman’s landing the other day and they rattled off a bunch of things. Doesn’t sound very convenient to just run down there for the day.
@bryan34wable it's not convenient but it's worth it! The islands are beautiful. Once you figure out how to do it the first time it gets easier.

Man I get it’s legal, but I hate shark fishing(unless it’s an accidental hookup on one). Could never imagine keeping a shark, so many other better fish to eat in the ocean and sharks are such majestic creatures.
