- Fishing for Bluefin Tuna never gets old. Especially high speed trolling using the Nomad Madmac lure and my new spreader bar that I won from the BD Outdoors Yellowtail Shootout!
Today, Mikey and Erik joined me as we covered a lot of ground south of the border 30 miles from San Diego to finally hook up on a nice bluefin tuna after a lot of show and no go. We found fish in several areas that just didn't want to bite, but persistence paid off and we were able to bring one to the gaff. Another great day fishing in Southern California!

How do you tie your macs? SD Jam, or crimp? Do you like knots, rather than crimp? Thanks. Great video!
Thanks! I just do and SD Jam knot with 5 wraps. No crimps I've heard crimps are fine, but to me it's just one more thing that could knock the jig off course at high speed.
A tip I was told was to keep the boat in gear when trolling mad Macs. They are heavy lures and when the boat goes from speeding to a dead stop it creates slack in the line for a brief moment and the fish can throw the hook. Didn’t seem to affect you guys tho but nice catch 👍
Yeah I've heard the same, I had the boat in gear for the whole fight. Hard to tell from the video! Definitely a good call on cutting the gas too quick though. A slow deceleration seems ideal.

13 knots. Easier into the swell, but 12 to 15 is the sweet spot.

This was the 170 size going about 13 knots
What size reel and test lb were you using to troll for them?
Fathom 60 reel and 130lb fluoro leader
How you do in the tournament..?
It was tough. We were right next to the boat that won, but we didn't get bit. Caught lots of squid though!
What color did you catch it on?
Mackerel blue and pink stripes

Have you ever fought a 100lb tuna? The fish wins more often than not regardless of the heavy gear. These fish make you work for it and you are beat up the next day. A true battle...If that isn't game fishing I don't know what is
