Bluefin Tuna SMASHING the POPPER on the Jig Strike | San Diego Tuna Fishing

The bluefin tuna were biting the ghost popper last weekend in San Diego. This time, the Reaper Fishing Club boarded the Jig Strike in search of Yellowtail. While the paddy action was slow, we managed to find some schools of mixed yellowfin and bluefin tuna that were eager to eat live bait and the jigs. I was also able to come home with a dorado that we caught while trolling cedar plugs. All in all, another awesome day on the water!

Sick content! Is that a tern 400 on the proper setup? If so, how do you have it spooled? 65# braid, to what size leader? Thanks.

Thank you! It's actually a Tern 500, got it spooled with 65lb, and about 100ft of topshot usually either 40lb or 50lb. This trip I had 40lb. On the 10ft Ulua SSR.

good fishing but man I couldn't handle fishing on a charter like that ... too many people ... I think I'll stick to catching Longtail tuna out of my kayak I reckon

It does tend to get a little hectic! But I usually only fish with my club now so at least it's the same guys every time.

I actually prefer having enough topshot that I just run out on a long cast. Straight mono topshot to braid. Gives enough stretch to get a good hookset And fight the fish. I feel like straight braid is too rigid for my liking.for the long rod and the topshot is easy to cast. Braid birdnest is no bueno
