Dumb Decisions: The DUMBEST Timeout of Week 5 | Virginia Tech vs. Miami (2024)
A lot of people are going to be talking about the Hail Mary at the end. But this was the strangest play of the night
During week 5 of the college football season in a game between Miami and Virginia Tech, the Hokies got sacked on third down with a running clock. And immediately after the play, they decided to call a timeout, thereby ensuring that Miami would get the ball back. It didn't work out

Ain't no math in Oklahoma, I guess During week 4 of the 2024 college football season, in a game between Tennessee and Oklahoma, with the Sooners down 22-9 in the fourth quarter, for some inexplicable reason, they decided to kick the extra point to try and turn a 13-point, two-touchdown game into a 12-point, two-touchdown game. Jeff Lebby's tenure as the head coach of the Bulldogs is not exactly off to a great start During week 2 of the 2024 college football season, when Mississippi State played Arizona State, the Bulldogs had a chance to call a timeout and maximize the amount of time they would've had on the clock if they got the ball back. During week 2 of the 2024 college football season, Penn State played Bowling Green, and with the Nittany Lions trailing by seven points with 14 seconds left in the first half, Franklin decided to take a timeout for a reason that seemed to make no sense whatsoever. We got another Lions/Buccaneers playoff situation. I genuinely don't believe it During week 2 of the college football season, with BYU leading SMU 18-15 and SMU only having 1 timeout, all BYU had to do was run the play clock down and take a knee and they would've won the game. Instead, they call a kneel down far too early... only for SMU to not do anything about it. This is a breakdown of one o...

I’m not sure if this is the best place to recommend plays, but you should do the last minute of the first half of the Gasparilla Bowl this season @JaguarGator8 . It was truly baffling what Tulane was thinking.
And I brought in 1994 watching this game from a motel room in rural Louisiana.
To add to lore, Current coach and most recent inflection point in the programs history, Brent Key was at this game. As his first college football game ever. Pretty cool.
And now it's 2024 and the committee has wrongfully screwed over another team to let smu in the playoffs times have changed.
Fedex catching strays out here. But the helmet logo needs to come back. Cool as hell.
If I am understanding this correctly, since Norfolk, VA has a bunch of naval bases in the area, then that CBS contract would’ve required WTKR to show that joke of a matchup instead of the game in Knoxville. And San Diego, and Chicago, and a bunch of other areas too. I’m not sure if CBS made an exception in those areas.
Nice to hear a name drop for Youngstown State. #GoGuins
"They weren't just your average bad; they were advanced bad." 😅😂😂
They and grumbling also had a big pay day on nbc for the bayou classic
I was 15 years old and at this game. It was Taneyhills last game. Fans from the state were calling JP sports. They were telling them if you want us to support the new NFL team in NC you had betfer show the Palmetto Bowl. JP sports broadcast the Panthers pre season games at the time.
Cam Ward is the boogeyman, he's Mahomes in a way. You don't let him get the ball with both a sense of urgency, and a realistic shot at scoring. You will lose. This is the inverse of what the Bucs did versus Kansas City. Todd Bowles removed urgency, and survived. The game was decided by a coin more or less. Better odds than Mahomes and Butker with 30 seconds and three timeouts.😂😂
Please do another video, once again on VT football, on the last 18 seconds of the first half against Syracuse. The refs literally erased a VT timeout from existence.
Everything about this, I'd like to think, WAS a major catalyst for UW firing Morton after that season. The next year Barry Alvarez was hired as the Badgers' head coach...and the rest, as they say, is history.
Much dumber: Hiring Don Morton
Something similar happened in 2007 when Barry Bonds was on the cusp of breaking Hank Aaron's homerun record. Every time Bonds was at bat, ESPN, would interrupt whatever was on to show a potential milestone. That though is different, that is a historic milestone and it also occurred in the month of August, before the start of the college and NFL football seasons.
So you made a video about a normal day at cnn
Oh no!! $55. Dollars!! You weirdo. Who gives a crap? This guy is a complete clown. Moving on.
Good! 1996 WNBA began. I thank you Southern. ❤ We now know what happened to every HBCU and their funds.
#11 Michael Moody was my dean at Locke High School when I went there in 2010-2011, REAL good gentleman he had all his awards, plaques, and some photos when he played for the Vandals all around his office. Not gonna lie, I was young and got into ALOT of trouble but he looked out for me a couple times and even had real deep convos when I was going through tough family issues at home. Mr. Moody if you ever come across this video/comment THANK YOU! ✊🏾 Appreciate to have you as a dean at Locke High ⚜️
This sounds like ESPN WAS TO BLAME! School AD and administrative didn't care about FRIDAY NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL! Logan was NOT THE PROBLEM BUT THE ADMINISTRATION WAS! AND AS OF TODAY THEY STILL ARE!

He is mad because Mario smokes the Gators in the swamp, lol. Go back to your swamp with your sorry team. How about you start looking for an HC.
VT coach fucked up 3-4 times during the game! Big errors too
People seem to forget on that long VT FG, they had to players on the field, who wore the same 17# jersey, which is illegal! It was a 57 year FG and it would have been moved back to 62 yards!
Does this video literally start with a full minute of advertising? easy dislike.
And you forgot about him Sqib Kicking it on the next Kick off after the timeout to put Miami in field goal position. Worst coach in P4
How many refs were on top the play? I recall three. Wondering if the replay people asked them anything?
and on that same field goal they got away with having two players wearing number 17 so that should have never happened, they should have been kicking a 60 yard FG. Pry coached a HORRIBLE game and really got help from the officials multiple times. the holding call on the pick in the redzone was not holding, his play calling was really bad and shows why they lost not only to miami but also to VANDERBILT!
The fact the ref that wasn’t closest to that final play called it a TD is the issue. But VT not kicking that FG to put them up 13 was boneheaded
I want JG9 as the Bears head coach
Field goal shouldn't have counted 2 number 7s on the try at one time against the rules
I actually thought the squib kick was worst instead of kicking it threw the end zone the returner gets it between 15 -20 then takes it out past the 40 where Miami has a good kicker as well and needs just first down yardage to get in his range
You getting all uppity in your comfy chair judging hahaha. How about I'd want this coach because he made the refs win the game against a top 10 opponent.
You getting all uppity in your comfy chair judging hahaha. How about I'd want this coach because he made the refs win the game against a top 10 opponent.
You're incorrect. Shared possession goes to the receiver and the instant he's made contact in the in zone, it's a TD. Furthermore, and more relevant, there is no way on earth there was enough OVERWHELMING evidence to overturn it. If you think that, I can't take you serious and you should stop talking about football period.
Sounds like your more mad at poor officiating then poor decisions made by the head coach. You should be more concerned with the decisions made by Coach Pry
"During the review process of the last play of the Virginia Tech at Miami game, it was determined that the loose ball was touched by a Miami player while he was out of bounds which makes it an incomplete pass and immediately ends the play," the ACC told multiple outlets hours after the game. Maybe it's just college ball rules
Wrong, there was no ruling on shared posession. Neither one of them had clear possesion of the ball(catch or interception) - thats enough to overturn the call, also, once Miami def was out of bounds and touched it, it is consdered an incomplete pass. He does not need posession of the ball. There are at least three pairs of eyes, including slow motion video, watching the play - Refs got it right! Finally, nobody brought up when VT kicked the 57 yard field goal, there was two number 17s on VT side. Thats was a missed penalty and that would have resulted in a 62 yard field goal attempt, if attempted.
Cam Ward showed why he should be picked by my team after they go 1-16. I don't want any other QB in the draft.
College football: where the real dumbshit happens
Dude it was only a FG, Virginia Tech was going to lead at halftime, a FG is not as bad as a TD would. The stupider decision is on the overturn call on the final play of the game. The referee was dumb to NOT STAY WITH THE CALL when you can't tell who had it, it should of been Virginia Tech winning.
@nintendopeachgaming1647 The Miami db was out of bounds normally the tie goes to the reciever in college but since one was out of bounds it probably was ruled incomplete they need to come out and say why the call was made the way it was
@@jimbowlan5804 Maybe but it was hard to tell what happened, if they can't see it stay with the call.
Nah, calling that fake fg was the most egregious call since Mario's last year.😂😂
@nintendopeachgaming1647 what do you mean if you can't see it? You can see the Miami player is fighting for the ball, and you can see the Miami player is out of bounds. Automatically a dead play
When the refs make a call 30 seconds after a play has finished is just them admitting they don’t have a clue what happened.
I think the fake FG was far more egregious than this. The fake FG took points off the board meaning at the end of the game they would have been down by 1 instead of 4.
Yes ; all VT needed was a field goal and had plenty of time ...
As a Canes fan, I agree the fake field goal was the most egregious mistake. It changed the game completely.
