Thar was NOT the dumbest play of that game. Set up: LSU is up 17-13. They just stopped USC on 4th down, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on LSU's Major Burns for taking off his helmet in the field of play. Instead of starting their drive their own 36, they started on their 21. A touchdown drive will make it a 2 score game that will make me and other LSU fans breath a lot easier. Loss of 5 yards on 1st down is followed by a 14 yard completion to Pimpton to make it 3rd and 1. OK, just slow the game down, burn some clock, get this 1st down. Wait! Why are they no huddling? They snapped it, run up the middle was stuffed for -1 yard. WHY! You no huddle there tells USC that you're run going the middle. WHY! It was obvious. WHY NO HUDDLE! That's a Dumb Decision!
Dumb yes. But was that the coach's choice or the player's choice? If it was the coach's decision, then it qualifies and was game changing. If it was the player's decision, and players have gone rogue before, it doesn't qualify under the criteria of this series. Although it was dumb and killed LSU's momentum and ultimately cost them the game.
I dont mind the run. They scored the winning TD from roughly the same place on the field with the same play, and LSU was expecting a run in that situation, vs expecting a pass in the 1st half. I was asking "why dont you throw to the end zone" , but i was also asking "why dont you clock the ball faster" when they would have had time for 2 plays to the end zone, not just 1. Clock management made them have to run some questionable plays all game. That said, the dumbest decisions were LSU's self inflicted gunshot wounds to the feet. How many 15-yard penalties for stupid nonsense do you need to commit in a game? Free first down, free terrible field position, free 1-0 record, here you go. That game was a cacophony of awful coaching decisions.
"and LSU was expecting a run in that situation, vs expecting a pass in the 1st half. " Interesting thinking from you, LSU was expecting a pass or 2 when they were surprised by the run to win the game. I agree with this gentleman, our fearless leader had to have attempted a pass before attempting a field goal. riley better get his act together as last year he made similar mental mistakes. Perhaps he should ascend one of his helpers to monitor him from himself in critical situations?? Maybe if he spent less time plotting against media, he could free his mind for these critical moments??? JUST SAYING!
This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 8/9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about similar bad strategic thinking by Falcons Coach Arthur Smith at the end of the first half of their game against the Panthers in 2022.
I'm totally pleading with the admins of both LSU and Clemson (who begin a home-and-home next year in Clemson) not to fire either coach, cause we need/deserve/demand the galaxy brain matchup of BK vs. Dumbo
Theres a decent chance that will happen but it wont be from lack of skill…. Itll be from the SEC being a bloodbath… i think Oklahoma will finish just outside the playoffs this year which hurts to say because i am a fan myself
IDK how USC won that game. Poor clock management was just one of the bad decisions that were made. Why is Lincoln Riley called a genius ?? Riley is a joke of a head coach.
They won because LSU gifted them multiple free unsportsmanlike penalties every time USC needed one. Suck at clock management? Blatantly obvious targeting hit 5 yards away from the ref; now you dont need to worry. Good field position? Nah, took a helmet off for you. Drive stalled? Heres a free 15! We're struggling to move the ball, but in dangerous punting distance? Receiver false start x2 work for you?
We need to address the elephant in the room. BK is terrible on clock management in the last 5 minutes of "big time game" openers. USC didn't win it, LSU(BK) lost it. Similar as the LSU/FSU game.
First of all, the play didn't hurt at the end as USC won and because of the new 1st half rules and 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, this is going to continue to happen EVERY SINGLE WEEK, the dumbest play in the game is the personal foul on LSU that guaranteed the win.
It doesn't matter whether it hurt the team. The point is that it's a stupid decision. Also, who knows maybe if he used better clock management, they might have been up 2 tds instead of 1. Or gotten into even closer field goal range
The Kicker didn't even make the easier FG, so maybe the coach was right to make it an easier kick.

@@Jaime-u5mmaybe you should apply for coach, genius
Given Riley's reputation as an offensive guru, there wasn't much risk for the Trojans' offense to go for the TD there. A TD was attainable there.
