My guess is that this was a gentlemen’s nod. BYU could and would have waited to kneel at the last second, but Kalani looked across the field, saw the SMU coach take his headset off and acknowledge that it was over, and they went ahead and ran the play with that mutual understanding. I could be wrong, but that’s my suspicion.
That's my exact thought. It's still super early in the season. Don't want ANY chances of a star player, on either side, for any position, to potentially get a serious or even season ending injury. So, just have a gentleman's agreement and don't risk any injury on the minor offchance that SMU is able to make something of 20 seconds and no timeouts.
Kilani is way too nice to opponents. He takes the “love thy neighbor as thyself” approach to football. Nah, eff that shit dawg. Demolish them. It’s so frustrating being a fan of this team.
As a long-suffering Lions fan who saw a huge albatross being lifted in that win, it didn't matter to me if the Bucs had a timeout or not. The Lions had the ball and could run out the clock. I'll take it.
The worst-case scenario after calling the tineout and getting a punted ball is a sack that injured your starting QB. I've seen and heard of it happening.
Only explanation I can think of for this, and the earlier game between the Lions and Bucs, was that perhaps there was a gentleman's agreement about this scenario before the game.
That makes no sense regardless. There's no reason a "gentleman's agreement" should mean you kneel way before you need to. It's just horrible coaching on both sides. Waving the white flag in a one-score game shouldn't happen unless there's NO WAY you can get the ball back.
Except your missing the part where the lions probably kick a field goal if they had to with a 99% chance of making it making it a 2 score game with no time left i think it was a white flag after the interception destroyed the bucs chances
The NFL example was more like 3 strokes back in golf, which would have been an excellent chance to show footage of Jean Van de Velde rolling up his pant legs en route to blowing a 3 shot lead on the 18th
I wish I saw that early kneel down so I could scream, “WHY WOULD YOU RUN A PLAY AT THAT TIME?” That was a dumb decision on our part along with SMU sleeping on the clock until it reached 0. We did not deserve to win this game. Not even close.
Pisses me off. You’re still in the game. You couldn’t hire a statistics grad assistant with just this situation in mind. I know the nfl NFL teams have consultants with time management and scoring management

Would this qualify as a double Dumb Decision (kneeling too early for BYU, SMU not taking advantage)?
Yep
It’s actually eight months later. Nine months ago was December when the regular season was still ongoing.

This is far worse in college cause they stop clocks in first downs and TO aren’t as important as they are in the NFL
Me now waiting for him to cover the Ok state Arkansas game where Arkansas went for it on 4th and 5 in Ok State territory.
I'm convinced that all these bad college head coaches got their coaching experience by playing Madden Football.
So glad you made this because Rhett lashlee has to be flamed for it everywhere. This can’t be forgotten

You really thought this wouldn't happen again after what happened in Motown? You're so trusting! 😆
The Lions-Bucs game was significantly worse because they had more time on the clock and it was a playoff game.
Never thought I'd hear JaguarGator have to use The Doofenshmirtz Meme.

Lmao. So many parallels between this game and the bucs lions game.
For a good min I was like hmmm did somehow he accidentally uploaded an old video by mistake/misclick
smu looks abysmal this season
Ever since the Fenway Bowl
Both Teams Made A Dumb Decision, Eh?
Sounds like SMU just wanted to go home. :P

Another obviously scripted game
