JG9, please consider doing a DD video on New Mexico's questionable decision to let the clock run out in the first half rather than trying to get at least a field goal. I was at the game last night. We all knew our Wildcats were going to win, but New Mexico was putting up a hell of a fight until about the 4th quarter.
On the flip side of the coin: Abilene Christian going for 2 in Overtime against Texas Tech ..... that's easily In Defense Of (you want to WIN). And thank you on the recent chat where you agreed my suggestion of Gerry Faust being hired by Notre Dame was a Dumb Decision.
I’m not commenting on the game itself, but in general, I’m wondering if the FBS versus FCS games are going to go away as major college football moves to a super league. Similar to the NFL. Regarding the game, it could very well be why the game was such a blowout in the second half. Because the players had to be frustrated at the stupidity of the coach. The coach had basically given up when the score was 6-0 with 27 seconds left to go in the first half .
I wonder if Illinois State has suffered from this type of decision making in other games in recent years. The Redbirds couldn't have fallen off by accident.

I disagree with you here, the way Iowa was last year and the way they were in the first half it makes sense to play ultra conservative and avoid the turnover. Putting your QB in a hurry up situation like that increases the risk of a turnover. In nearly every game Iowa won last year it was because the defense scored off a turnover or gave the offense the ball in FG range or special teams made a big play. If the other team never turned the ball over and didn’t allow a bug special teams play last year Iowa almost certainly lost and likely got shut out. All you need to win is 1 or 2 good drives and to not let the defense beat you. Iowa isn't like any other team, but their defensive greatness combined with their laughable offense calls for an ultra conservative strategy. Maybe if your QB has a great anount of situational intelligence so he isn't going to force a pass trying to get the yardage you could go for it. But most QB's in this situation force passes and that is just the receipe to let Iowa's defense score the game winning points for them. Keep in mind that the first FG Iowa got in the first half wad due to a turnover in FG range.
@@JaguarGator8Not sure why they ran, maybe they were worried Iowa would burn all their timeouts. Just saying ultra conservative makes sense given the opposition.

@nautgamingnautgaming9949 I know the 7 wasn't due to a TD, I'm an Iowa fan so I saw the game. But Iowa won that game because of 2 safeties and I believe a turnover in their own territory handed the offense a field goal. The defense won 10 games for them last year. That is why they had that ranking despite Iowa games being the least interesting college football games to watch due to neither offense scoring points.
I did miss the end of the first half, we were at my 6 year old daughter’s soccer game and my 3 year old daughter was using my phone to play a game.
