When it comes to the fax machine aspect of this story, it is very similar to what happened in 2000 and the UEFA Cup Final between Galatasaray & Arsenal. Because of the fact that Galatasaray is one of the biggest (some say the biggest club) clubs in Turkey & one of the most supported, there were thousands of requests for tickets from their fans, so much so that it overwhelmed the fax machine at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen where the final was taking place. As a result the stadium staff there basically gave in to every request for tickets & this created an environment in which over half the fans at the match were Galatasaray fans. What makes this even more crazy is that some of the tickets that were sold were being sold at twice their face value by Galatasaray themselves meaning the club were ripping off their own fans in order to have an advantage when it came to fan support. It is also remarkable that Galatasaray were even allowed to have fans at the final at all considering in the semifinals vs Leeds United, two Leeds supporters were stabbed to death by Galatasaray fans before the first leg at home in Istanbul & there had been numerous fights between the two sets of supporters in the stands during the game. Galatasaray went on to beat Arsenal in the 2000 UEFA Cup Final via penalty kicks winning their only European trophy to date.

This video reminded me of the time David de Gea's transfer to Real Madrid was foiled by a fax machine. Crazy how they're only somewhat outdated and not functionally obsolete.

You mentioned the 2000 presidential election in this video. The Florida Supreme Court allowed Al Gore more recounts at one point, but delegated the details to a lower court judge. That judge gave out his fax number so counties could send him their ideas as to how to conduct the recount. But since he gave it out over live TV viewers jammed the fax.

Woody Danzler came up in the wrong era. If he came up now he’d get a legitimate chance to play QB in the NFL. But back then being a 5-11 QB he had no shot and had to try to make it as a receiver.

The (then) New Jersey Nets sold the rights to their 2004 second round pick, Kyle Korver, to the 76ers for $125,000. The Nets said most of that money went toward the Summer league, with the rest going to buy a new photocopier.

I was at the eye doctor today and I heard a fax machine modem. It's wild how in "the future" we're still hearing dial up modems and talking about crop yields st al

So that's how an 8-4 Boise State squad that won 6 of its final 7 games was left out of the bowl picture? Crazy.

It’s amazing there are still fax machines.

What is even weirder is that Clemson destroyed NC State that year at NC State. Woody Dantzler had a field day against them. I know a guy on that team Micah Lewis. He played offensive guard. He was All-Conference academic ACC that year. He got Coach Bowden, Woody, an offensive lineman named Outlaw, Kyle Young, Charlie Whitehurst, Tye Hill, Justin Miller, Kevin Youngblood and several others to sign a football for me. Of course, Micah signed it too. It was a great surprise for a 9-year-old. It's something I treasure to this day. I remember watching this game at my cousin's house in Greenville, South Carolina, and being surprised by the blue turf. It was starting to sleet in the Upstate, South Carolina area also that day. I am glad they won this game and ultimately beat the crap out of Louisiana Tech, but I think they got a raw deal if beat out by the Tangerine Bowl committee by NC State, because they beat NC State at NC State that year. Anyway, at the end of the year practice, Micah said they had a contest to see who could throw the farthest catchable bowl and Charlie Whitehurst threw one farther than Brett Favre had ever been known to throw one. The next year Clemson played Texas Tech in the Tangerine Bowl and Whitehurst was a freshman and had taken over the starting duties toward the end of the season and he got beat up a lot in that game. He was still shaking nervous and sick during the 2003 Clemson opener against Georgia at Clemson. He puked on the ball and fumbled the snap several times, but Clemson could have- they got beat 30 to 0- Clemson could have gotten momentum and come back and won or made a game out of it, if the officials had not cheated them. For example, Clemson marched it down the field one time before the end of the first half and was going to cut the Georgia lead down to a touchdown, and they ran wide receiver reverse pass back to the qb. Charlie was wide-open in the endzone on this play and Georgia got away with blatant, blatant pass interference against Charlie and Coach Bowden was so hot he ran out into the middle of the endzone and got in the referee's face rightfully and let them have it. Needless to say, nobody would have thought Clemson would have turned it around that year, but it turned out to be one of their best seasons under Tommy. They would have done well in 04' if somebody hadn't of talked Derick Hamilton in leaving and going to the NFL early.

You linked to your video about the 2002 Seattle Bowl, in which the bowl committee tried to induce South Florida to play in the game by trying to get the school to pay $2 million for the privilege. I wonder if the Humanitarian Bowl made Clemson pay for a new fax machine.

I'm still happy to know that karma came back to strike the Seattle Bowl soon after it did my USF Bulls dirty. That bowl game didn't have that same energy for Oregon!
