This happened in 1992 under HC Pat Jones. A few HC"s and 13 years before Gundy became HC. Since then we have had the second best winning percentage in the Big 12, and a winning record in 17 consecutive seasons - something only 2 other FBS schools can claim. I believe this was Porter's first DUI, which means it was a misdemeanor offense.
A lot of these old Coaches that fans hold in high esteem did some questionable things behind the scenes. They have stadiums, courts and fields named for them. That's why I love the social media era, so we can see the true nature of these folks.
The story is pointless because they are several high profile players who have also been allowed to play after commiting crimes .. here are a few examples... 95 Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne reinstates Lawrence Phillips and allows him to play after being arrested for domestic assault. Cam Newton was allowed to transfer and play for Auburn after stealing a laptop computer while a student at Florida... Jamis Winston stole crab legs and charged with assault and ok rape and was allowed to play the entire season. And finally Oklahoma hothead QB Baker Mayfield was arrested before his final season for pubic intoxication, disorderly conduct and Resisting arrested but of course Wokeloma upheld their high moral standards and suspended him for 2 plays making a complete mockery of law and order
You know what's a "goofy" thing you do at 20? Stay out too late and miss curfew. Which is apparently worse in Jones' eyes than endangering lives by driving drunk.
Where is your video about OU playing Joe Mixon after he punched out a coed breaking bones in her face? His only penalty was a redshirt year. DUI’s are serious but not the only serious crimes athletes commit. Mixon should have been looking for another school, instead he had an OU assistant coach hiding him from the police. And no, John Rohde and Dave Sittler thought that was just peachy because they were both OU homers. Bringing this up 30 years later is ridiculous, Mixon is still getting himself in trouble these days.
The Tim Tebow-era Florida Gators: "skill issue... Now excuse me while I hide this body that Aaron Hernandez caught and this laptop Cam Newton stole, just be careful as Urban Meyer is passed out drunk over there"
3:50 he wasn’t afraid of the big house since he was.. ok I’ll stop great video however. I can’t belief he was a starter. Hey I Can’t help but notice some weird ticking sound however that was persistent throughout the video. Just an FYI. You rock JG9
You can’t believe they started one of the best quarterbacks in the country in 1992? How old are 22? You know nothing about how he played. He was an incredible quarterback.
He transferred to another school and eventually stopped playing college football for academic reasons. He played and coached professional indoor football and eventually became a high school football coach.
This is his wife and although my husband doesn’t take offense to this, it irates me! I went to high school with him, he was one of the best quarterbacks in the country! He was a true quarterback for a reason. (That’s for the people in the comments talking out of their butt) As far as the person who made this, if you’re going to repost a crap piece from 30 years ago maybe look into all the facts, yes he was an idiot for drinking and driving and regrets every choice he made back then, but you make it sound like the person was injured. They were going 6 miles an hour and the bumper was tapped! Maybe next time also look into the person now, what accomplishments they have, what they have overcome and end it with that! Let’s take a look at your past and see how pretty it is. Gary has been a teacher and a coach for 25 years and has changed the lives of so many students and players by just being the man he is and caring for those kids. He may not be perfect but he’s close to it when it comes to raising up the boys on his team who become men and still reach out to him thanking him for the difference he made in their lives or the multitude of classroom students who fill his Facebook page yearly on teachers appreciation telling the world of what a wonderful coach/mentor/teacher/friend he was to them. My husband may have had demons in his past but we all do. He fought his demons and won! He was saved and hasn’t had a drink since then, nor an urge to. Gary has a testimony that is bringing so many people to Christ and that wouldn’t be possible without his past! I know this is just about how a coach should’ve benched a kid, which he should’ve, but you and the people in the comments made it a little more personal than that. How about you redeem yourself and do a piece on the man he has become not the child he was? You’d have thousands of students, athletes, friends and family to testify who this man truly is! He’s my wonderful husband, an incredible father and even better Pop Pop so think about that next time you write a piece of someone’s past. They had a future that might be worthy of writing about as well!
I never knew about this. I am from T-ball too and knew Gary in high school. I only know him now through his FB account but he has definitely turned his life around and has become a positive role model for student athletes.
Pat Jones has no excuse here. If he can suspend Gary Porter for curfew violations, he could've done something even stronger for a freakin' DUI. Was beating a sorry Iowa State team really worth sacrificing OK State's credibility and integrity? What a mess this was.
Dexter Manley attended Oklahoma St without being able to read and they famously paid for players like Thurman Thomas and Hart Lee Dykes so their credibility and integrity was all ready pretty much gone
@@DMS-pq8 That Dykes situation in particular royally screwed the program up for a long time. It took OK State until about the early 2000s to recover from it. It had only one bowl berth in the 1990s.
@@DMS-pq8 Dexter lied. There were several players that said Dexter had no problem tracking his investments in the Wall Street Journal, which he read regularly when he was getting injury treatments at the team facilities. Dexter had demons that ended his career, but an enability to read was not one of them..
Oklahoma State finally did get rid of Porter once and for all in 1993 on the eve of the homecoming game against Kansas. I'll give him some credit for resurrecting his college career in the small town of Alva, OK at Northwestern State.
Oklahoma State: “We started a criminal”
Mike Gundy: “HAVE HIM COME AFTER ME!” “I’M A MAN! I’M 40!”

He has a radio sports show here in Oklahoma. I'm going to call him up and ask him about it!
I'm Jameis Winston and I approve this message
"Seconded" -Cam Newton
"Same" -Joe Mixon
"Me four. I even did it at the same college." -Tyreek Hill
I'm Joe "Girl Puncher" Mixon and I award the Dumpster Award to JaguarGator8 for Aged Garbage Journalism.
Yo this is crazy Mike gundy did the same shit with a LB who got his second DUI
Oklahoma State: "We started a criminal"

Miami hurricanes: First time?

In the Nebraska game, we did have that proverbial 39.6 passer rating. We only threw 3 incomplete passes for the whole game.

They may be called college kids but in reality are adults now and should be punished as such.
Here's a scenario where the outrage of today is sorely missed
Well, the mascot does look like a criminal, so I guess it fits well

In Oklahoma the legal limit for driving is now .08. Crazy how it used to be 1.0 thats a pretty decent buzz, definitely drunk.
What ever happened to this QB? Porter?
He transferred to another school and eventually stopped playing college football for academic reasons. He played and coached professional indoor football and eventually became a high school football coach.
This is my ex-husband. Wondering why this has resurfaced?
He is not the same person any more. He has learned from his mistakes. And is no longer this person
Please stop this. This was decades ago. Why don’t you do a piece on how he has turned his life around?
Let’s dissect your mistakes from your 20’s please

Wow. Even with their lows, none of Florida's big 3 started a criminal UNDER CENTER. That's low.
And all that only to end the season with an 0-3-1 record over the last four games. Pathetic.
