Awesome. That’s for demonstrating carbon arc gouging. Great video.
@@danramos281 Thanks Dan. Hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for watching!
Just had a question on the dual shield welding & would appreciate some input. I thought pulling was the proper way to run dual shield but I've noticed you always push the puddle & was wondering why that is, or if it matters the direction you weld with it? Thanks, I've still got lots to learn!
@@kimballcisneros3505 This is just my opinion, but I think one of the biggest loads of BS in welding is the term- “If there’s slag, you drag”. That’s simply not true. I prefer to push dual shield because of the way the puddle lays when I do so. There are times when I will drag dual shield, but it is a case by case scenario. For example: if I’m welding an open corner joint, welding a flange to pipe, I will almost always drag because of the way the puddle piles up and fills the joint. My advice would be to try it different ways and see what you like.
Have yet to see a video that actually captures the real sound of Arcair. Great job
@@robertoobregon3750 Thank you for watching!
Could you not have just cut eight and a half inch off each end and drilled another hole ?
@@roydawson4882 I could have, but I would have had to cut that special profile into the edge of the pieces where they slide into the slots on the bottom of the cube, and it would have been an enormous pain in the 🍆 to make it look good. But yes, In a pinch or crisis scenario, you could have done that.

Air arc is definitely the way to go for stuff like this....unless one REALLY likes grinding! 🤣
Nice
I would have pre heated the steel a bit to help prevent any weld shrink pulling out of alignment
Arc gouging is pretty neat I see some people do it on instagram. I never tried it I just have a plasma or cutting torch or grinder would be cool to try one the seem useful nice video 👍
@@WojnarskiWeldingFabricaion It’s definitely nice to have another tool on your arsenal. Thanks for watching!
I'm not an expert gouger , but I do love the sound, it reminds me of the nitro drag cars. 👌
@@neilheriot2361 Completely agree. For some strange reason, there are many sounds associated with the trade that I love. That’s definitely one of them. Thanks for watching!
How would you compare it to plasma gouging? More precisely as i see, but i have no experience with it at all. Thanks for interesting video!
@@MrEndeller I think Carbon arc gouging is one of those things that has a time and place. I think when it comes to being precise, and peeling the weld back so you can re-weld, it is great for that. It does require a large power source, and a good supply of air to be able to do it proficiently. Plasma gouging is a good option as well, and I typically use that when I’m in the shop. I typically use air arc for field gouging. Hope this answers your question. Thank you for watching!
Which dual shield do you like?
@@DXT61 Do you mean which wire?
@@Freedomfabrication777 Yes, i bought 2 33lb rolls of 035 dual shield that was weldcote. I got them cheap due to a shop closing. I can use 75/25 or 100co2 with this but im going to 045 when i use these up. Currently using 75/25 for shielding.

Hi, really good review on the welder, I was wondering if i should buy it too but after this video i made my mind to buy it! I was wondering though if it comes with the torch and finger paddle that you welded with or you modified it like that? If so please tell me what kind of torch and paddle was that. Thanks for the review, Greetings from Germany!
@@МирославКирчев-э3х Hi there, thank you for the feedback. I’m glad you have decided to purchase a welder and continue your journey in developing and honing this skill. To answer your question, yes it does come with the torch and the finger control. Hope this helps. Glad to have a friend from Germany. Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot for the fast answer! Does the finger control act like a foot pedal too? What i meant by foot pedal is, if i can operate the amperage gradually with my finger, like with my foot on a foot pedal or is it working in 2t/4t, kind of like a normal basic Tig button?
@ This finger control is only 2t/4t operation. I know there is a company that sells variable amperage finger controls, but I don’t know if they make them for ArcCaptain or not. The website is www.6061.com. Hope that helps.

That may sound like a silly question, but what makes you choose a torch rather than an angle grinder or a (portable) bandsaw for that job ?...
@@pascalrhins3770 Not a silly question. With structural steel, a torch is by far the best tool for the job because it’s heavy wall 4” tube. A porta-band would go through a couple blades, an angle grinder would go through several blades, and would take forever. When you become proficient with a torch, it’s just a faster, better way. This is of course just my opinion. Thanks for watching!

@@oldscoutinks_7482 Believe it or not, he already has a girlfriend. 😳
Love the videos and glad to see a new one! Just a couple thoughts, no negativity intended... ever looked into a fume extractor? No benefit to breathing the fume! Also, could you have used a portaband to make the cuts on the sq tube? Look forward to the next one.
@@MeticulousMetalWorks It is definitely a good suggestion to have a fume extractor, but they are expensive. I try to make sure I have appropriate ventilation to manage it. I probably could have used a porta-band to cut the tube , but typically with heavy wall structural steel it can be quite labor intensive, it would probably take a couple blades to complete, and quite a bit more time than using a torch. Not a bad suggestion, just not what I prefer. Thank you for watching!
@@Freedomfabrication777 Awesome, makes sense and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and perspective. No kidding on the price of fume extractors. I picked up a Kemper M-Series fan and 15 ft arm as as compromise. It was a little cheaper direct through them (see if they have a discount)... and then it blows the stuff outside. No filter to keep up with or replace. Still have to mount and hook it up, but the quality is fantastic.

@@blickster_4568 I do have a shop tour video that talks about a lot that stuff. Check it out. As far as cost goes, I started building it in 2016, and I did all of the work myself. Dug the footings, gravel, rebar, concrete, shop assembly, insulation, and electrical. The only thing I subbed out was the shop doors. That being said, I’m into my setup about $60,000 for everything. At the time, my kit was $23,500. I’ve heard the price on everything has just about doubled. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Great content Stewart. Do you still have your Millermatic 255? And if so why did you not use it to do the job? I had some issues with my 255 having burn back. I downloaded the latest software to it and so far it is working great. I still have to try the .045 duel sheild again. I was using C25 gas with it. If you or anyone else has anything to add on the subject, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
@@michaelbigelow367 I do still have the Millermatic 255, and I love it. I didn’t realize there was a software update for it. I’ll have to do that and see if it makes a difference. When I weld structural, I always use either dual shield or stick, for better penetration. I’ve never used the 255 for dual shield. Not saying it can’t be done, just saying the XMT was built for that, and coupled with a 22A, or 24A wire feeder, it’s a recipe for success. If I think about anything else that could help, I’ll let you know. Thanks for watching!
@Freedomfabrication777 Thanks so very much Stewart . I appreciate this because I'm settings up my shop and am retiring soon and want to do this as a semi retirement job, so I appreciate the help. I will do more research and testing on duel sheild wire run on the 255. Thx again.
That torch you have is out of Victors cheaper line. Firepower or something like that.
Absolutely not the cheaper line of Victor. I have a Journeyman series (315FC) and it has the same design.
Not trying to be rude. I think you need to investigate that a little bit more. You can still buy Victor torches where the high pressure lever does not flip over like the one you have. They cost more money.
