Love the videos and glad to see a new one! Just a couple thoughts, no negativity intended... ever looked into a fume extractor? No benefit to breathing the fume! Also, could you have used a portaband to make the cuts on the sq tube? Look forward to the next one.
@@MeticulousMetalWorks It is definitely a good suggestion to have a fume extractor, but they are expensive. I try to make sure I have appropriate ventilation to manage it. I probably could have used a porta-band to cut the tube , but typically with heavy wall structural steel it can be quite labor intensive, it would probably take a couple blades to complete, and quite a bit more time than using a torch. Not a bad suggestion, just not what I prefer. Thank you for watching!
@@Freedomfabrication777 Awesome, makes sense and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and perspective. No kidding on the price of fume extractors. I picked up a Kemper M-Series fan and 15 ft arm as as compromise. It was a little cheaper direct through them (see if they have a discount)... and then it blows the stuff outside. No filter to keep up with or replace. Still have to mount and hook it up, but the quality is fantastic.
@@pascalrhins3770 Not a silly question. With structural steel, a torch is by far the best tool for the job because it’s heavy wall 4” tube. A porta-band would go through a couple blades, an angle grinder would go through several blades, and would take forever. When you become proficient with a torch, it’s just a faster, better way. This is of course just my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Great content Stewart. Do you still have your Millermatic 255? And if so why did you not use it to do the job? I had some issues with my 255 having burn back. I downloaded the latest software to it and so far it is working great. I still have to try the .045 duel sheild again. I was using C25 gas with it. If you or anyone else has anything to add on the subject, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
@@michaelbigelow367 I do still have the Millermatic 255, and I love it. I didn’t realize there was a software update for it. I’ll have to do that and see if it makes a difference. When I weld structural, I always use either dual shield or stick, for better penetration. I’ve never used the 255 for dual shield. Not saying it can’t be done, just saying the XMT was built for that, and coupled with a 22A, or 24A wire feeder, it’s a recipe for success. If I think about anything else that could help, I’ll let you know. Thanks for watching!
@Freedomfabrication777 Thanks so very much Stewart . I appreciate this because I'm settings up my shop and am retiring soon and want to do this as a semi retirement job, so I appreciate the help. I will do more research and testing on duel sheild wire run on the 255. Thx again.
Hey man, quick question if you dont mind, how much roughly did your shop cost? Im looking into having one built shortly with i beams instead of wood, appreciate it, thanks man, great work🤙🏼
@@blickster_4568 I do have a shop tour video that talks about a lot that stuff. Check it out. As far as cost goes, I started building it in 2016, and I did all of the work myself. Dug the footings, gravel, rebar, concrete, shop assembly, insulation, and electrical. The only thing I subbed out was the shop doors. That being said, I’m into my setup about $60,000 for everything. @@VenuxYT Because time is money. When you learn how to use a cutting torch proficiently, it is very fast. Not trying to be rude. I think you need to investigate that a little bit more. You can still buy Victor torches where the high pressure lever does not flip over like the one you have. They cost more money.
I find out that the costumers marks are always off or like 1/4” off from the other side.
