- We got a phone call at about 5:00 p.m., and got asked if we could drive out onto the desert to repair a crack on a drill rig located on the top of a land fill.
We loaded up, and headed out! we used the Trailblazer, with some 6010, and 7018 to weld up the crack. We had to gouge out some 1/2 steel, and make about 7 or 8 passes to fill it up. This one was a surprisingly fun mobile welding job. hope you guys enjoy, and Thanks for watching!

The 6010 root was the right call on that dirty crack. Nicely ground out as well. Thanks for sharing this solid repair with us. Well done!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Awesome job
very good job !!!!!
Great repair!
Well done
Good work. I miss those days.
Great job strong weld
Solid man.
Just found this channel, lovin it already 🤟🏽
Thanks man, I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Nice 👍
Nice repair
Great work there young man!
Thanks, and thank you for watching!
Always start with a 6010 -11 to burn that root on repairs it burns out the trash and an added bonus it preheats the weldment for the low hi root pass..✌🏻
Nice truck....lol not for long....after all its a worktruck.
good work
Nice repair. I learnt something today thanks!!
Just curious, What did you learn?
@Freedomfabrication777 building it up like a scab makes it stronger. And the lower amps starting then move up as you go.
Nice repair back to drilling
Solid repair, I see a welding skid or welding trailer build in your future lol
Definitely gonna have to get a rig set up. It sure would be nice to just grab my hood and go. It sucks having to load and unload everything I own every time I get a call for mobile work. All in due time I guess.
great stuff, cheers from a new subscriber in Orlando, Florida, Paulie
Thank you sir, I appreciate that, and thank you for watching!
I’m a small welding shop in Texas and this is a great video. This is the first video I watched on your channel. I would love to learn how you got your name out to drilling rigs thanks
Thanks, I actually haven’t got my name out specifically to drill rigs in general, but This particular customer got my number from Google search. My name came up as a local welder that offers mobile welding, so they gave me a call. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Nice job buddy
Thanks for watching!
nice
when i was a kid we lived in utah and would go to the salt flats now and then use to like it out there. i swam in the great salt lake the nastyest place i ever swam lol
Drove out to the alt flats all the way to neveda and holy crap is that a long drive even doing 100
Lol, yes it is. That’s quite a large desert. Thanks for watching!
killer repair brotha! i was thinking the same thing right when you switched to run 6010 as a root that crack looked like it was nasty crap under it. what are you planning on setting up for a mobile rig? as always great content!
Thanks! I have a service bed sitting in my yard by the shop. I’m currently keeping my eye out for an older Duramax or powerstroke dually to put it on. Thanks for watching!
Nice job! Looks like a fun and easy money maker. If you pause at 7:48 it looks as thought the crack also goes straight, and into that previous repair. Maybe? Stay safe.
Thanks, it was pretty fun. I think that was just a grinder mark. After I ground the root out, I checked it and couldn’t find the crack anymore. Thanks for watching!
Would it help if you preheat the metal or do you think it wouldn’t make a difference ?
Preheating is usually always a good idea with thick material, but where I used 6010 to burn the crud out of the root, it also helped preheat the material as well. Thanks for watching!
heck i would run 3/32'' on the root pass then on the hot pass 1/8'' 7018 and on the cap pass 1/8'' 8010
Looks good how many passes total? Didu cap it with 7018 ?
3 passes for the cap. I believe it was 8 passes total to weld it out. Thanks for watching!
Great repair - how long did the onsite repair take?
Thanks, About an hour and a half. Thanks for watching!
Nice video, I can't tell but your trail blazer sounds quiter then my Miller bobcat 250.
I don’t know how old your bobcat is, but I ran an older bobcat at a previous job, and it made Rosanne sound quiet, Lol. These newer machines are way quieter IMO. Thanks for watching!
Nice job! :D Can I just ask, is there a reason why you did not drill att hole at the end of the crack? I find that that is a god way to stop a crack.
That is a great way to stop the crack, and most the time I do that. The only reason I didn’t here is because I forgot to bring my battery drill, so I just used the grinder to dig at it till I hit the very end, and made dang sure I got to the end of the crack. Thanks for watching!
@@Freedomfabrication777 ok cool, thanks. Have a great day. :)
Work of art, Stuart!
Thank you sir, I appreciate that.
How deep did you grind it out. It doesn't look like you went more than 1/8 inch. Might just be the camera but I'm just wondering it you went deep enough to get full pen.
Must’ve been the camera. I went all the way to the bottom of the 1/2” plate. The 6010 was punching all the way through on the root. Thanks for watching!
Good deal. I figured you would. I noticed it looked deeper once you had the root in.
Thanks for the videos. I just came across your channel, nice work. As a comment of suggestion, could you lower the music audio in your intro? It's extremely loud compare to the rest of the content.
Thanks. I will turn it down and see if that helps. Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for watching!
What would it look like for someone to work for you?
Can you expand on that question?
That Kelly bar section needs to be replaced with a 3 foot section jibs replaced etc . Those field repairs are a 10 min temporary fix .
Operator texted me today and said he ran it yesterday and Today with 115k lbs. on it, and it’s holding up like champ. Thanks for watching!
No oils for lubrication I was thinking power washer but I guess not
What did you charge for that job including travel time?
Guess
@@Freedomfabrication777 Wow, that was quick. $450.00
What hood is that
CMR fabrications. It’s a game changer when you’re welding outside. Thanks for watching!
Nice job, can u explain undercut, and why such a big deal
You bet. That’s a good idea. I think sometimes to my fault, I just assume everyone knows all the terminology. I’ll try to talk about that in a future video. Thanks for watching!
@Freedomfabrication777 u hv to be the coolest you tube creator because u respond, thnku for that sir.
@@charlesmecum5009 Thanks, that’s nice of you to say. I try to always respond when it’s a question. I hope I can help answer your question. Stay tuned.
You forgot to tell everybody that you put.A battery isolator on that machine before you started welding on it
Operated did, but you’re right, if I don’t say that out loud everyone freaks right out. Oops. Thanks for watching!
What u charge em?
Guess

I do my fair share of welding at the transfer station in our area. I know exactly what you’re smelling.🤮😂

If you can’t watch my videos without squirming because there is a flag in my shop that you disagree with, you’re better off moving on. I believe in a Country where we have the privilege of supporting whoever we want. And even though we may disagree on some things, I don’t understand why we can’t come together as friends that have a common interest in fabrication. Good luck finding a channel where you agree with every single thing that person agrees with or supports.
