I had to order mine from Golden Age through rad distribution

See if you can get it from Stam Audio. I believe Mics with Power Supplies have a “combination” and it has to match your mic. There’s also a company called REDCO, they can make custom multi-pin cables and they should be able to provide a better clarification. If they do, come back and let us know please. I wouldn’t mind upgrading the cable.

I hear ya Hottraks but same could be said about expensive ProAudio gear. Us as customers should not have to pay over “x” amount of dollar. At the end of the day, us as customers have the choice to say yay or nay and many of us customers have said a resounding “yay” to Stam despite his timing. AudioScape is cool but they don’t have mics. Again, the beauty is that is ALL up to us the customers.

i 100% agree that it’s really not cool to have people waiting that long for a product they paid for. there really is no excuse. the mic is obviously worth all the hype and is amazing. but plain and simple there is no reason whatsoever it would take over a year to make a mic from scratch after you paid for the parts. that’s insane.

I don’t own that MicPre. If you can get more people to comment the same request, I’ll gladly purchase it and put it thru it’s paces. Thanks for your view.

Hey @thisisliving, it’s the same tube as the mic which is from what I can decipher a Miniatron 6AU6WB, model FSE-8250R. Most likely made by Phillips. I’m going off the GearGutz video and puzzling it together. Hope that helps.

Hi Fuchida! Man… that’s a very tough question. I’ve not played much with my SA-87i and receive my SA-67 not too long ago. Unfortunately, I’m still redesigning the studio and just can’t get around to testing fast enough. From what I’ve noticed so far from FB comments is that the 87i is a little dark but very even and smooth. Usually the 67 has a little more sweetening highs than the 87. IMO, for voice over, I’d probably go 87 because opening up highs can be done in the mix. Hopefully I’ll be posting videos soon so we can all be better informed. Take care.

I am looking forward to your videos, even a simple video with you talking into your SA67 and SA87i and alternating would be awesome....for spoken word its very easy to test and compare. In this instance it would be a voice over comparision test NOT a mic test as both are great and will suit different purposes and individual tastes. Love your enthusiasm Daniel in your videos....great work!!!

Thank you Fuchida. Only problem is that computer, interface and a bunch of other stuff is disconnected so even if wanted to do a quickey it’d be pretty impossible. Almost there though! I am in the last phase of the redesign. Thank you for the voiceover idea though. You’ve not been the only viewer who’s mentioned voiceover.

Don’t wanna tease because my teases tend to take 5 years+ to come into fruition but I that’s in the works. Stick around if you’d like to eventually find out 🙄😮‍💨.

Sorry I won’t be able to confirm. I wanna say yes because I did a quick check but I didn’t take a pic to confirm. From what I observed, the regular tube is typical sized tube thus making it short for the tube housing so the Sony tube is a proper fit in the Stam mic.

Unfortunately this is one of the downsides to being a Stam customer; sometimes, some products arrive quickly while taking advantage of the Pre-Order pricing. And sometimes, we encounter your situation. In my view, the wait has always been worthwhile and so has for many. But that’ll be up to you decide. I wish you all the best and when you do get your mic you too will find it worth the wait.

What’s up FTH! That’s the million dollar question. I have been curious about the 1073SPX myself but I’d like to compare that vs the classic and even 1073N, all from AMS Neve before giving an opinion. We have to start with the technologies these preamps are utilizing. 1073SPX is using SMD technology for its circuitry while staying true to its roots with the Transformers AND EQ Inductors. Mike-E is based more on chips while utilizing Transformers for I/P and O/P Gains. I’m afraid I don’t have enough experience to tell you which technology “sounds better” and the opinions out there are too vast for anyone to make a concrete determination. What it does come down to: Do you want to control dynamics/saturation (Mike-E) on the way into your Twin Interface or “Tone” (1073SPX)? It’s about $100 difference with SPX being more expensive. Personally, I like to control dynamics on the way in rather than EQ/Tone but again, that’s personal preference. I’ll leave some links below so you may do some research. Hey Lewis, sorry I’ve been MIA. Big changes are happening in my studio so it’s taken up a lot of my time. Build wise, SA-800G MK2 is as close to the real deal. Sound wise, I don’t know yet. Because I’ve been out of commission, I haven’t heard MK1 and MK2 back to back. Hopefully I’ll be posting a few videos in the next few weeks which will include a few comparisons featuring the SA-800MK2. So please bare with me as I get things done. Should be exciting. Thank you for hanging in there thus far though, truly appreciate it.

Hi Renato, I have no idea why Stam Audio would not use Vishay Caps in the MK-2 and it would all be unfounded speculation. Hopefully someone that knows about electronic circuitry can explain it to us.

Hey there! Heythere, man! This is a packed question. First off, it’s been a while since I’ve listened to that Switchfoot album. From what I remember, CLA mixed that album but don’t know who recorded. I would say look into that. As to mic choice and recording chain. Welcome to the Trillion Dollar question that we’ve all been looking for. To start, in order to know which mic to choose, you need to know your mics intimately or at least know it’s characteristics well. Second, see how the performance and tone fit the recording. Lastly, no matter how great a mic one may have, if there’s no front end preamp and compression going into the recording, one will never be able to truly tell how great the mic is since the raw recording will be to dynamically uneven to make a good judgement. One more thing, if one is already looking for EQ on the way in, perhaps it’d be better off to check another mic instead. EQ should be a last resort option when recording. Best of luck and wishes.

Hi Roderick. It’s gonna be a few weeks. Just finished recording the tracks for the SA-800 videos and not to spoil the surprise, another pair of mics just arrived so I’ll be recording the same type of videos for newly arrived mics and will directly compare them to the SA-87i. I’m a one family man production team and the studio sees me when family and home are taken care of first. So my apologies for the turtle’s pace but I hope in the end the videos will be worthwhile. My bad Stuff&Such. I’ve been redesigning my studio and it’s taken much longer than expected. I’m down to the last phase which is connecting everything back up but even that is proving to be a bit challenging. My apologies and thank you for checking in. I’m hoping to be done soon but I can’t put a timeline due to unforeseen challenges. The side of studio work no one really explains. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️.

Thank you Domonick! Stay tune as the direct comparison should be posted in the next 2-3 weeks. Guess we will all find out if it’ll be worthwhile keeping the MK1 version. Stay tuned also because I may experiment with the tube in MK2. I found the repair diagram for the original Sony C800G and the mic tube is different than the power supply tubes. According to a Mod Tech, the bigger mic tube has more gain/amplification. So now I’m really curious as to what differences truly are.

Haha! Story of Stam Audio fans. Can’t quite let go of the classics.

This particular microphone took me over a year to receive. At best, Stam Audio is inconsistent with delivery times. Some gear, is delivered in a few months as promised and some, take quite a while. However, once you receive it, a common phrase is consistently repeated: “It was worth the wait!” I realize it sounds corny but at least from my perspective, it’s true!

Don’t know yet and it’s hard to speculate because what’s really coming down to is a transformer difference and circuitry. Should be interesting and exciting.
