Great video! I'm a big fan of Stam Audio. I own their mk2 with the neve mod and one of their 76s. I'm so intrigued by their take on the 660 and the 670, and your walk through confirmed my thoughts. I love that it can be pushed without sounding unnatural. Many think of 670 as really vibey and heavy, but I'm interested in when they're used in a subtle way, almost transparent. But so pricey! Enjoy that beast of a machine!
First off, congrats on your channel, I admire your talent, groove and vibe. I think you said it best on your Shelford Vid, this type of equipment brings a HiFi Sound even to LoFi. I would describe it as a Beautiful Thick Clarity to a track. I am meaning to test out the Stamchild against other more modern made Vari-Mu compressors since Stam is no longer making these. There’s a few on Reverb and yes! They are pricey. But so is any other Vari-Mu compressor. I think the most inexpensive I found was from IGS Audio but don’t think they start off with the 6BA6 Tubes, let alone the original 6386 tubes. With that out of the way, I will leave it at this: Even with the Q2 2022 Reverb Prices, it still a few thousand dollars less than the new up and coming HerChild from Heritage Audio, let alone the more boutique manufacturers. Thank goodness I got it when I did; I can’t see my getting rid of it even for a profit, but at the current prices, I couldn’t justify it for my studio. I could definitely see it in yours though! I’ll be looking out for your music. Subd!

I've been thinking about a retro revolver, but not in the budget at the moment. Enjoying your channel as well. And I have one of their 1176D+'s now. Thanks for the VDO. Correct me if I'm wrong but I see that you were using the DRY/WET knob as if it's the output of the LEFT channel. I think the OUTPUT knob at the bottom controls both channels together.
Not wrong at all but…. I got a special mod req from Stam and got a second output gain knob instead of a Dry/Wet to have a true Dual Mono/Stereo Mastering Comp.
Max level the input transformers is the sound. WARNING: Always warm up the stamchild 12 / 15 min Without any load the transformers and compression. Cool thing , I got it too and the 660. Thanks for the vid. I was busy doing a review too now you do it . I pass

Well… Let’s see… Big Time engineers still use NS-10s in their studios and while the trend is changing, many still use near-field monitors ranging from the hundreds to the thousands of dollars because there is still no consensus on which near-field monitor is the best for a wide range of genres. And in case you weren’t aware, big time studios have the real deal gear worth in the hundreds of thousands of dollars 😬! Next, while my monitors are the HS-7s, I did have a mod upgrade by Zen-Pro Audio (www.zenproaudio.com/yamaha-hs7) but you knew that because you wouldn’t criticize before informing yourself would you? Also, I was monitoring thru the Rupert Neve Designs RNHP-1 Headphone Amp and Neumann NDH-20 Headphones (Good enough for you?) but you also knew that too. Now! If you are going to criticize something, criticize the room! I’m still using foam panels which is entry level acoustic treatment and not quite as effective as professionally made and rated panels. Lastly! Yes, I have bought plenty of gear for MY needs/wants. Also, Stam Audio is possibly the best entry level prices for really awesome gear that would otherwise be out of studio owners hands like me. You don’t see me reviewing other personally purchased Fairchild clones that are upwards of $10-$20K. But thank you for watching though. Appreciate it the view count.
