I have both also, and this is exactly what I hear here as well. I was amazed at how much better MK2 sat in the full track. I prefer MK2 overall, but MK1 is no slouch!

Hey Nate! Thank you for your comment. I record in a bedroom and it’s not treated quite professionally yet; so to see the mics are consistent is great news! Are you torn too? Will you be selling one or keeping both?

@ red seat I feel version 1 has more bottom end but the bottom end of mk2 is sharper and so are the upper mids, Stam have got closer to the sound with mk2 than they did with mk1. My recommendation is keep version mk2. I am sure you can hear in the full mix mk2 cuts through better as other people in the comments have said they are 100 correct.

Thank you very much for this very accurate and insightful comparison. The SA-47 MK I is definitely more flattering, full bodied like the MK II, but with a top end sheen that the MK II does not offer. The larger than life impression of the U47 is simply better achieved by the MK I than the MK II. Just my 2 cents.

Really good and helpful video, both mics sounds amazing, sometimes I like the MK1 and sometimes the MK2. I think the MK2 are more clarity, Great voice my bro, take care.

Thank you Daniel!, MKI sounds more like an M7 capsule, MKII sounds thinner to my ears

Arturo! How are you my friend? Man! I think I just opened up a Pandora’s Box. I’m torn between the two. MKI has that thickness and warmth but MKII holds its weight while bringing a sheen forward without being harsh.

Were you equal distance from both mics? In regards to the MK I sounding more full-bodied... perhaps you were closer or more "on axis", resulting in the fuller sound? That could explain the difference in the bottom end. I have the MK II and love it.

Hi James! Equal Distance both from the front and sides of the capsules (as best as possible considering movement during tracking). Both mics were also recorded at the same time. Check out the session pics here: facebook.com/100029114772510/posts/812085213105297/?flite=scwspnss
As to the fullness in sound, according to Stam, that’s due to the Danny Bouchard Capsule which has more low end. I like MK2 as well but I wouldn’t be closed to the idea of customizing by changing the capsule.

@@reddmusiclab Good morning, Daniel! I can get fullness by taking advantage of the proximity effect. Is the proximity effect overkill with the Mkl? I like to get in close, as that’s where all the magic happens with my mic. My other main vocal mics are an SA87, and a Chandler TG, and my SA47 is in another class.

I wouldn’t know because I don’t usually record that close up on the mic. I’m usually about 5-7” from the mic. For this video I might’ve done up to 1 Ft away which I was not too happy about, usually need a bit€h!n’ room for that type of distance.
How do like the TG Mic? I’m thinking about getting that one, looks and sounds very versatile.
At the end of the day, sounds like you’re developing your own techniques to produce the sound you want which is the objective, to intimately know your gear and it’s sweet spots.

@@reddmusiclab I understand why you'd have to be further from the mic in order for both mics to get the same signal. As for the TG, it's amazing. As you said, it's very versatile, like many different mics in one. Much to my surprise, it sounds very tube-like. The same, but different. Hard to explain. Having a power supply has something to do with it. It's advertised as a mic you can use instead of an 87 or 47, but it really, is it's own thing. The SA47 sounds very relaxed and effortless, while the TG sounds more upfront/ in your face. I'll never sell it. *( I'll never sell my Stams, either.) I'm amazed the price hasn't changed since it's release. I thought it would have gone up by now., as everything else has.

Shhhhhh…. 🤫. We still need obtainable Stam Gear. Looking forward to purchasing the TG then. Should do for some great shootouts.

Haha! I am growing more fond of it but there’s something I still love about MKI.
