Thanks for the tip, I was wondering if the process of clamping on the rj connector was reversible. Seeing how it's done, I agree it should only be done if you don't have a straightforward alternative. There's a plastic wedge inside the rj connector that is supposed to grab on the cable housing as a stress relief. Ideally you would put the leads through as far as they go, so that you can press the wedge in. The wedge is supposed to "self tighten" (as wedges do) when you pull on the cable. This way it is less likely for your connector.to separate from the cable.
Indeed, no problem.
This channel is a hidden jem. I'm gonna binge these videos all day.
Thank you, that's very kind. I need to get back on making videos.
I'm curious is there any reason for choosing that HP display?
Hey, how's it going? I managed to get that display sealed in box. So it's been my go to for every system. Colors are bright and lines are as crisp as they can be.
@@SUCRA good. I hope you are well too. I was thinking to build a Pentium mmx or a Cyrix and ended up watching this video again :) I also chose my CRT for the same reason: it was the best preserved one I could find. It's an LG Flatron Ez T710B. However I'm not very happy with the image so I'm looking for alternatives.
Oh, sorry to hear that. I wish I had a good flat screen display as well. The one flat screen I have is a bit blurry from use. But we gotta take what we can find in this hobby. I do have a normal curved huge 21 incher I use sometimes, but is heavy and clunky.
Wellp, I tried it. It worked. But the metal pieces really did a number on me
Yeah, not Very reliable. Only a temporary fix.
counter-intuitively, the geforce 2 ti was part of the geforce 3 ti line, and it was the entry level card from slowest to fastest: geforce 2 ti < geforce 3 ti 200 < geforce 3 < geforce 3 ti 500 the geforce 3 "normal" was discontinued when the titanium line was announced, though
I bought a Gigabyte 6800gt agp gpu for 15usd about 6 months ago untested. It's getting a little hard finding PCs with agp slots to be honest. A guy selling three custom socket 775 builds sata I with p4 chips for 20usd each just sold em in a day. I hope to get a pc one day to test em with. This made me realize I should try and pair with a core 2 duo. Thanks for the demo.
Hey, my pleasure. You probably need a c2d to use the 6800 to the fullest, but there's nothing wrong with using it with a P4.
Hi are you still doing the live?
This was on late night on the 15th of january, 2025.
I don't know what happened back in the day then because my Geforce 2 MX went against my friends Voodoo 5 and came out on top most of the time, I don't remember the rest of the machines specs though so perhaps there was a bottleneck going on or something...
Heya, probably. The only way to know is testing in the same system. The voodoo 5 was in a different category for games that did take advantage of both VSA chips. There was the case of games that did not take any advantage of both chips and that would make it perform exactly like the voodoo 4. Pretty much then it would be a case of personal preference.
Does anyone have a working link to the Voodoo 3 overclocker installer? All I find online is bullshit that doesn't work...
Hey man, how's it going? Sorry for that, have you tried Philscomputerlab?
2:53 - sub to the channel? Now I'm blocking the channel. No dude. Don't EVER ask me that. This is the INTERNET. We don't care about you - we just want information. BUG OFF.
thank you
You're welcome
Nice job sir!
Thanks!
Other games you could play on this build: Warcraft 3 (and the expansion) Hitman: Codename 47 Hitman: Silent Assassin *(but with lags) Metal Gear Solid 1 Diablo 2 (and the expansion) Max Payne 1* (but with lags) GTA 3* (but with lags) GTA Vice City (maybe you could play it on lowest settings and with lags; GTA Vice City is well optimized for PC unlike GTA 3 and Max Payne 1. GTA 3 and Max Payne 1 and Hitman: Silent Assassin have terrible optimization.) Metal Gear Solid 2 (maybe but on lowest settings and with lags; However, MGS2 has lots of bugs.)
Great games!
Will this video card run heroes of might and magic v?
Yep, it should. You're probably better off with something a bit faster, it's right on the cut off, but it should run.
@SUCRA appreciate the reply! Just on the market for a retro build that would allow me to play it, searching for the optimal build.
This soundtrack is sooo good!
Indeed!
Turns out, the best retro* game card? *1995 (directx support) - 2005.
Best retro video card is any you can find to use with the retro games you want to!
7:27 The chipset cooler you have there is a thermalright NB-1. I know this is 3 years late but do not lose that, they're rare little nuggets. They were apparently unobtainium even back when they were being sold, judging by the old forum threads. The heatsink is built along the same principles as their SLK series of CPU coolers, which was their last high-performance line before they adopted heatpipes. I've got a copper one with the P4 mounting hooks, which I jealously guard until I can get an SLK to have a matching set. Also please appreciate that I didn't offer to buy yours for the mounting hardware lol.
hah alright, thanks for the info. Unfortunately the motherboard is busted. I'm not giving up on it though, I hope I can fix it. I plugged the PSU in the wrong voltage and the mobo stopped working, probably got a jolt.
@@SUCRA Big oof. Hopefully it's just a sacrificial resistor or something.
I had that same case for my system of that era. Unfortunately I couldn't afford a real Pentium CPU back then, and had to get by with a Cyrix 6x86 PR166, which performed pretty bad running Quake, due to the extremely slow FPU. For Christmas in 1996 I received a 3dfx Voodoo 1 which allowed me to run GLQuake, and claw some performance back. I ran that system for a couple of years until I built a legendary overclocked Celeron 300A @ 450MHz system, with a Riva TNT1 card.
Those are awesome memories. Most of us didn't have the best hardware, I sure didn't, but we managed to have fun with what we had. That is what made great memories.
I was there Gandalf, I was there 3000 years ago!!!
Has it been that long the strength of man failed?
by any chance if u can extract that Creative boot logo and share? That would be cool. Great video!
I'd love to take a crack at that, will a dump of the bios do it?
The Pentium 2 233 mhz MMX I had ran this game at a much more acceptable framerate. You should see if you can track that processor down.
What I dislike about the Voodoo is the biliniear filtering gives weird edges around 2D elements and the sky is broken.
Voodoo 1 was really a first step into 3d acceleration. I also believe it wasn't anywhere near perfect, but hey, it was a great first attempt at a consumer product.
geforce pcx version with two nv30 cores is better than geforce 6800 ultra
You think so? I think they are pretty cool, I don't quite believe they were better per say.
I managed to achieve an average of 92 FPS in 4K resolution with RT Ultra settings on an 11-year-old PC: th-cam.com/video/NOBOfeSEmjU/w-d-xo.html
Hey, that's pretty cool, I think I looked at your video before, that 4070 ti goes a long way!
Finally! The good stuff
It's great!
chaotic good all day long! good ol ssi
I'm more of a neutral good, but hey, any orientation that makes you happy, makes me happy.
Use Norton Commander :) Make your life easier :)
cool, thanks
Nice video, just found an Asus M2N with this iGPU on the street 😉
Thanks, the beginnings of this channel, a bit cringy to me, but it is what it is, right? Nice find, I've bought a 2 core CPU to re-do this setup, haven't gotten to it and the backlog keeps growing. Have a nice Sunday!
NICE!!!
It's a classic!
today tech is supposed to be less complicated
I miss simpler times.
Well it sure makes me want to play it!
It's so interesting. It references the physical journal constantly, somewhat like table top rpg. I have to get in deeper and try to really get into it.
How many attempts to find the shortest route?
lol, just an empty title tbh
I played the MDK demo so many times I lost count. Good times.
It was amazing when it came out!
except doom (can be fixed changing the soundfonts), the sb cleaned the floor with the sc-55 LOL
Sounds good with the right sound font, that's for sure! At this point I did no tests with different sound fonts, but yeah, there's that.
If you want a modern interpretation of this classic game try GRIP, it took me right back.
Oh, interesting. It does look like it from the screenshots. I'll take a look.
I spent hours of time on this game. the audio tracks on this game is crazy. MMX on my compaq presario and i still have the sidewinder joystick with the box $89.99 sticker on it.
That's awesome! It's such a classic.
10:00 Serius Sam. The problem with the 2x Antialiasing in with the Voodoo 4, which drops the FPS to unplayable is the fact that Voodoo 4 has only 32MB ram. Because of the 2x anti-aliasing the card has to keep 2 frame buffers only for anti aliassing (a frame buffer is 1024*768*4byte = 3MB, and we need at least 4 from them, because of the triple buffering, and a depth buffer. Total it makes 3*4=12MB. With anti aliasing we double the one buffer, which makes it 16MB. The textures are eating a lot of memory as well. To render a picture, always new textures needed depending where the player located. And that's why less memory means the textures has to be swapped more frequently from the system RAM. Because you are using a PCI version of the card, which has only 33MHz Speed on 32bit, you can make the math, how slow is the data transmission rate from CPU to Voodoo. The 2x AGP card, is 4 times faster as PCI.
It would be good to do a benchmark on it.. to compare with non accelerated version.
@@downundergarage6968 these games are barely playable with acceleration on the 486, without it I think the only one that you can actually play a bit is Quake.
what resolution are you running it in?
My 1st PC was a DX2 66 from late 93, i upgraded it to 8MB in 1994 so that it could play the games you have mentioned.. love it.
@@downundergarage6968 Funny how nostalgia works. Now that it's been a while since this video I'm nostalgic for my original 486 in the 90s but also for this moment a few years ago when I delved back into it.
You can remove the yellowing of it.. just google how to retro brite it.
In my view the sweet spot for Voodoo2 was around P3 600, it does scale up to P3 800 and anything after is a waste. When it came out the fastest P2 you could get (2 m after Voodoo2 came out) was P2 450. So if you are aiming at that 1998 period correct HW, stick to that.
Sell?
I don't sell anything, sorry.
Ive been building something similar. Its an Asus P5E3 Premium motherboard with an intel core 2 duo e8600 (3.33ghz, air cooled with zerotherm nirvana), corsair 1600 ddr3 (8gb installed but as its xp home it only uses 4), gtx 780ti and a 650w corsair power supply. All these parts i got for free over time, except the 780ti, which was an ebay buy for £28 to replace the free 580 that it had. Not even stretching it's legs on Crysis 2, let alone anything else 😅
Oh yeah, Thays more than Eno hj for XP! Enjoy!
Vindo lá do RIRIS
Ohh, hi tehere Sucra, couldn't help myself but watch your "old" video LOL. Just was looking for some nforce 430 IGP tests and how it compare to older cards under 98 (if it is even possible at all) and your video came very high on my search.
Cringy, but I hope that was somehow helpful. What was the auto focus doing anyway?
@@SUCRA apparently that chipset is no good for Windows 98 so I thought I might as well watch how it did under XP, nforce3 is the newest one from Nvidia.
Português!
cut to me playing Unreal Tournament 3 at 320x240 resolution on this card
So unless you are running the original copy of pacific assault, the EA digital version is modded to support 16:9 and to support modern OS. I own the original, It is a direct X 8.1 title and runs on windows 98se. I can play it flawlessly on a athlon XP 3000 with a ati 9800 pro max settings at 1024 x 768 ( most common res of the time, were still in the transition from CRT to crappy early LCD TN panels. )
@@FullMetal-Tech Cool!
Tur4x can support up to 2gb of ram, what a legend.
Indeed, I think it's great
9600 Pro the the first true gaming GPU i owned; picked it for my PC back in 2004 originally to play World of Warcraft but ended up getting sucked into other games instead. Had many hours of gaming on that thing. Still have the box, but the card is long gone. RIP my 9600 Pro.
