10:00 Serius Sam. The problem with the 2x Antialiasing in with the Voodoo 4, which drops the FPS to unplayable is the fact that Voodoo 4 has only 32MB ram. Because of the 2x anti-aliasing the card has to keep 2 frame buffers only for anti aliassing (a frame buffer is 1024*768*4byte = 3MB, and we need at least 4 from them, because of the triple buffering, and a depth buffer. Total it makes 3*4=12MB. With anti aliasing we double the one buffer, which makes it 16MB. The textures are eating a lot of memory as well. To render a picture, always new textures needed depending where the player located. And that's why less memory means the textures has to be swapped more frequently from the system RAM. Because you are using a PCI version of the card, which has only 33MHz Speed on 32bit, you can make the math, how slow is the data transmission rate from CPU to Voodoo. The 2x AGP card, is 4 times faster as PCI.
It would be good to do a benchmark on it.. to compare with non accelerated version.
@@downundergarage6968 these games are barely playable with acceleration on the 486, without it I think the only one that you can actually play a bit is Quake.
what resolution are you running it in?
My 1st PC was a DX2 66 from late 93, i upgraded it to 8MB in 1994 so that it could play the games you have mentioned.. love it.
@@downundergarage6968 Funny how nostalgia works. Now that it's been a while since this video I'm nostalgic for my original 486 in the 90s but also for this moment a few years ago when I delved back into it.
You can remove the yellowing of it.. just google how to retro brite it.
In my view the sweet spot for Voodoo2 was around P3 600, it does scale up to P3 800 and anything after is a waste. When it came out the fastest P2 you could get (2 m after Voodoo2 came out) was P2 450. So if you are aiming at that 1998 period correct HW, stick to that.
Sell?
I don't sell anything, sorry.
Ive been building something similar. Its an Asus P5E3 Premium motherboard with an intel core 2 duo e8600 (3.33ghz, air cooled with zerotherm nirvana), corsair 1600 ddr3 (8gb installed but as its xp home it only uses 4), gtx 780ti and a 650w corsair power supply. All these parts i got for free over time, except the 780ti, which was an ebay buy for £28 to replace the free 580 that it had. Not even stretching it's legs on Crysis 2, let alone anything else 😅
Oh yeah, Thays more than Eno hj for XP! Enjoy!

Ohh, hi tehere Sucra, couldn't help myself but watch your "old" video LOL. Just was looking for some nforce 430 IGP tests and how it compare to older cards under 98 (if it is even possible at all) and your video came very high on my search.
Cringy, but I hope that was somehow helpful. What was the auto focus doing anyway?
@@SUCRA apparently that chipset is no good for Windows 98 so I thought I might as well watch how it did under XP, nforce3 is the newest one from Nvidia.

cut to me playing Unreal Tournament 3 at 320x240 resolution on this card
So unless you are running the original copy of pacific assault, the EA digital version is modded to support 16:9 and to support modern OS. I own the original, It is a direct X 8.1 title and runs on windows 98se. I can play it flawlessly on a athlon XP 3000 with a ati 9800 pro max settings at 1024 x 768 ( most common res of the time, were still in the transition from CRT to crappy early LCD TN panels. )
@@FullMetal-Tech Cool!
Tur4x can support up to 2gb of ram, what a legend.
Indeed, I think it's great
9600 Pro the the first true gaming GPU i owned; picked it for my PC back in 2004 originally to play World of Warcraft but ended up getting sucked into other games instead. Had many hours of gaming on that thing. Still have the box, but the card is long gone. RIP my 9600 Pro.

How are you doing? This was in the DC area in America. Unfortunately you can't find anymore big box games over there. The second time I went there it had already been cleaned out
Sexy ass
Is that a laminated screen?
Yes, I believe so.
@@SUCRA that’s sick!! I’m waiting for syf to come out with a va5 board since of got the chips from that. You should check out those boards.
@@duffywest oh sweet, I will. I still have a few mods to do on this. I have a new white case that is beautiful, a new sound board and flat cables. Just need to find the time.
If you would have turned off the sound, the 486 would have had the chance to manage the 3D graphics. But Unreal uses Tracker Music, wich alone would oversaturate the 486 in an instant. Even on standard quality wich is only 22Khz and ?16? voices. A very fast and optimized 486 can barely manage 4 to 8 voices with CD quality at 16Bit (Stereo vs. Mono) by itself without buffer underruns. If anything is going on additionally (Running Windows and such), the 486 will not be capable to hold its line. Sound in most cases was so hard on non MMX-CPUs that it would eat up all ressources. Unreal only works good on MMX CPUs, because with MMX instructions the music playback will only eat a fraction of CPU cycles.
Good point, I didn't think about that at the time.
It's all what you need for Windows 9x gaming.
👍👍👍
I just looked for a Radeon 9800 XT and geez, the prices went up like crazy. 150$ for one in not great condition. Some years ago I bought 3 Radeon 9550 and one HD 4670 1GB and one Radeon 1950 Pro, all AGP, all for cheap. Now I see powerful AGP cards (I have two of them as you see) have crazy prices.
I need this exact build now, great mix of parts dude, some real nostalgic voodoo magic.
Nice build and what a generous gift from your stepfather! I'm hoping to obtain a Rendition card someday - I will be doing exactly the same as you, I think, by putting it in my 200MMX build, which currently uses SLI. You're right about the games from this period. I love the idea of having all the parts you own in as many PCs as you can build. Originally I just wanted one example from each generation e.g. 8086, 286, 386, etc. but when it gets to the 486 I think it's important to have a slow one and a fast one. The same is true of the Pentium, I think. It's a neverending task!
Fantastic machine, motherboard was stored properly so it worked without any issue it looks like brand new.
I have a asus P3V4X slot 1 motherboard and have a weird issue, right now I'm running a pentium3 500mhz 100mhz fsb and works great but when I swap in a pentium3 with a 133mhz fsb it doesn't wanna boot. The board totally supports it and I used to run a P3 1ghz with this same board but now it doesn't like it. Caps look good and is fine with 100mhz fsd, it's got me scratching my head.
Hey Sucra, I am happy to see you 🙂
I put my Pentium MMX 233Mhz in a super socket 7 motherboard. Runs at 300Mhz at 2.9v. 100% stable. Combined with nVidia Riva 128 and Voodoo 1 4Mb. It runs almost all DOS games and Windows games up until Unreal 1 / Halflife 1 (barely). I also have a Soundblaster 16 and Aureal Vortex 2 sound card in it.
Nice video SUCRA!
I am watching my ATI 1900XTX run the Mercury pool Industrial version right now. It was flaking out after it got warm. I only used a 350 watt gun and no sensor. I stayed 2 inches away moving around for 4-5 min. It just started the artifacts and it froze in Unreal 2K4 as before. I guess a little closer and hotter for a second try. It lasted longer though. It wouldn't even start the screen saver before. Used arctic silver on the stock cooler. Yeah...we are all going to have to become expert solderers to keep this stuff alive and even that won't prevent chips just degrading. Hard to expect from 20-30-40 year old stuff not to mention the NEWEST CRAP that oxidizes.....LOL.
Can you review a vga with tv encoder please?

I had forgotten that Half Life even had a software renderer, it was released a year before Quake 3 came along and said it was okay to ditch the software renderer, after that everything else followed.
Very nice video 👍🏻 I was expecting a little bit more of gameplay footage, maybe next time 🔥

2:45 i had a PC once with this processor, in 1997 my dad bought the first computer, pentium MMX 166mhz - 16 Mb ram - 2Gb HD QUANTUM
Hello! I have an idea for a video... can you talk about the retroPC in your country?
I had GeCube Radeon 9550 128 bit 128 vram. Upgrade from Nvidia Riva TNT 2. It was a huge upgrade. I was so happy with it.
Have fun, and thanks for sharing.
This video really makes me want to finish off my MS-DOS 586 build, its sat in a functional limbo while i've made the move to shift some other PCs and sell them on to make space for my own builds, free stuff is great until it takes up space not being used, if i can source some VRAM for the Trio 64V+ to open its bus width up, source a K6 Processor, a few modern updates and it should be a lovely system for this same era of gaming, though no 3D card for me, just a faster processor as i do prefer that sharper software rendered look. my pentium 3 550 and Viper Ultra take care of the early 3D games as i was able to build a whole system for the price of a voodoo card :) Besides, the board is a lovely GA-586-HX with labelled dipswitches for easy overclocking!
Haha. Thats exactly how I started off, building machines for different combos, and quickly ran out of space for them so had to stop. Now I do the reverse, keep all the cards out of builds in boxes an build and use 1 combo at a time. Nice p233 build!
Firing up a game with your voodoo card for the first time was such a big bump in graphics, i still remember that moment.
@@scienide77 it was fantastic. Once you saw it you couldn't go back
I think there was an apl named heidy3d
Hmm I've never heard about that one. I'd definitely be interested though.
Great build! :D A cool combo of 3D accelerators and a lot of versatility. P.s. I also cover the back of my SD-to-IDE adapters with electrical tape.
Thanks man! This thing has kept me many hours in the lab "capturing" and "testing" 😅
Don't forget was power vr in that period too, I think quake 1, 2 looks best on rendition but tomb raider look better on power vr
I haven't had any experience with Power VR, but it's definitely on the list. I love trying different hardware and apis.
Love that build, can't believe it works after the capacitors life time is already expired.
Indeed, you'd be surprised hah thanks!
Couldn't get more from Pentium "1"architecture unless you either ready to do some heavy overcloacking and/or could find rare Pentium 266MMX used in some laptops and embedded systems. And both require some workarounds and are not exactly era accurate. So I guess you couldn't OFFICIALLY get more from Pentium 1.
Yeah, the way it is should suffice though.
