      Meh. Not sure.. I'll have to change its name if I ever restore the case! Maybe it could be a thing!

    Companions of Xanth requires a MPU-401 interface that supports intelligent mode. Using Softmpu partially solves this, but apparently there are still issues with the MPU and speech sharing interrupts, so it may or may not work, but it's free software so it might be worth a try. There are clone cards for MPU-401 that support intelligent mode, but they run about 100 USD.

      I figured something like that. Someday I might stumble on a cheap one 😂.

      Was going to mention SoftMPU, which I haven't tried yet myself. The other problem you might run into, though, is that a lot of MT-32 games upload custom sounds, and this isn't supported by the emulation mode of Sound Canvas synthesizers. You might also be interested to know that there's a project called mt32-pi that uses the very decent Munt emulator to turn a Raspberry Pi into a MT-32/CM-32 hardware clone.

      Oh, that's cool. I'd really want to try the hardware though.

    The quality of this review is off the bloody charts. Even making the leadup to the gameplay fascinating, with the computer builds, to the book that inspired the game.

      I agree, it's got amazing illustrations and the midi music adds to it very well. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed that.

      Nice! This is one I got as a birthday present in the early 90s. To me it was one of the best point and click games. Really creative and most of the puzzles make sense.

    Those old point and click math games were shockingly fun and im not big on math, though a necessary evil in programming.

    Thanks for the tip. Definitely gonna check this one out when I come back to DOS stuff, particularly for the MT-32 sound. 🙂

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pleasure! Yeah, I'd be curious to listen to that if you get to make the mt-32 work on it considering the nature of the setup it requires.

    I just realized that I never shared my thoughts on this. This one was fantastic, as usual, but wow is Xanth a cool game! I love the atmosphere and the artwork is positively gorgeous. You are so right here; this really is a point and click hidden gem indeed! I think I may have to give the book a go; the universe seems so rich and fun! Thank you for sharing this man! This was awesome!

    • @SUCRA

      Don't worry man, life is so full of challenges, I'm just glad I made something you enjoyed. The music of this game really makes the atmosphere uncanny and sometimes it even giver you that sense of urgency that is quite rare in point and click games. It was my pleasure as usual, thanks for your constant support and friendship.

    Hah what a neat looking game! I love that early 90s creative art style and somewhat obtuse puzzles. It's a game I'll have to check out but I'd probably run for a guide right away... still looks like a really cool game with that hybrid of modern and fantasy and those can be really fun. Awesome video!

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It truly does look interesting! Also they have some kind of low res video of the characters in some points of the game, this was the first time I saw this. Legend really wantef to raise the production value of point and click games. Thanks for stopping by!

      QUAD DX9 CROSSFIRE BUT CAN IT RAYTRACE? GEFORCE 9600 SLI. SOMETHING EXOTIC. FORBIDDEN.

      Just something hardware wise you wouldn't expect supporting raytracing. Like run games older than what the shader model actually needs. Or games without them entirely like half life 1 OG. Otherwise the compute shaders arent being used. Raytracing gives them purpose. Just keep the vram in check.

      This is literally the neil armstrong moment of sorts with computer graphics. No one has done it yet. Can modern efficient algorithms cough up more performance at the same or better image quality? The answer is certainly. At minimum for DX10 hardware. That's why its worth trying. Trust me people are going to care. Its cool.

    LOL… I read the Xanth series when I was a teenager. It’s funny because it’s actually pronounced “ZANTH” not “ZAYNTH” like the narrator to this video does. I remember another kid pronounced it “ZANITH”. NO! WRONG! It’s ZANTH!!! Like the Author’s name: Pier ZANTHony! I remember we would make fun of kids that pronounced it wrong because we were Mega-Nerds.
