    Thanks to everyone that watched this, it was quite the trip getting here.
    This video took about 3 months to finish. I started back in December of 2022, but then had to stop and wait for the new screen and current project to clear off. Picked it up again in February of 2023 to finally finish at least this part. Swapping the screen of the Game Gear was a lot of work, but definitely worth it. Games look so good on it, you think that you're using a modern console. This upgrade is so worth it.
    Anyway, if you enjoyed this one, take a look at some other stuff I made:
    Here are some cool recently released MSDOS Games

    And some laptop videos, I do enjoy those

    You were brave tackling this without hot air, but it's great to see someone successfully complete the recap and the mod with more basic equipment - this is the kind of thing everyone should be able to do, not just experienced experts. And you will have learned so much in the process. Thanks for sharing, it looks great now.

      Thanks, man! Yeah, really this kind of work is one of the things I hoped to improve on while making the videos. I'm not great yet, but maybe someday haha.

    Damnit it looks great, congratulations!
    You really sounded super excited in your short video, so I was thrilled when I saw a full length video on my notifications.

    What an incredible difference! We had a Game Gear back in the day - the only sega (and portable) game system we had. I remember having a lot of fun with it. Played a lot of Sonic and T2 the arcade game. It ate through batteries like nothing from what I remember.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah this thing runs through batteries like nothing, still. I'm considering a rechargeable battery mod, but I'm trying to think of how useful that is compared to just normal AA rechargeable batteries.

      @@SUCRA Really neat that they have so many mods for an old system like this! Yeah, it's probably easiest to just get some good quality NiMH batteries and be done with it :)

    Nice work! I too dreamed about this console when I was a kid. At least I had the game boy pocket with the built in light!

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh the game boy is great! I love it, I would say there are deeper games in the game boy and actually, the current scene of development for the game boy is really interesting. But yeah, colors, lights, all stuff that as kids was really cool.

    Oh what the heck, those Brazilian Game Gear cases are cool! We definitely didn't get that in the US.
    This definitely makes a normal Game Gear with aging stock caps look like junk. Your struggles with soldering remind me of my own before I discovered the joy and wonder of flux. Great job getting it done on "hard mode"!

      Thanks, Nathan! Oh yeah, this is totally worth it. And I'm sure I'll do better on the next one, so, worth it for the learning experience too.

    Excellent! Good job pal! I have a really messed up GameGear, I'd LOVE to give it the same treatment! 😁 Fun video!

    Great project dude, these rarely go smooth, but your end results are fantastic. Very nice, that screen does look soooo good. But I was pretty mad you didn't peel the plastic off for that last shot lol.

      Hey thanks!! Yeah my mistake, you can see it wasn't filmed in sequence. I needed a filler to say goodbye. 😂 Sorry.

    Beautiful work! I had the game gear in 1993 as my birthday gift,it included columns but my favourite game among others was chakan and chuck rock 2. The only problem back then was that it needed batteries every hour i think. I regret that i sell it with more than 40 games just to buy the PlayStation in 1995.

      Thanks, Chris! Oh we regret selling so much stuff haha. That's why I don't sell things anymore 😂

    Nice work! I haven't been brave enough to attempt surface mount soldering, so I can only imagine how it must have felt taking on that recapping job. I should probably try doing a similar mod to my original Game Boy, as it was dead when I got it out to show my kids a couple years ago, and worst case I can play the games in my GBA SP or on an emulator.

      You can probably fix your gb if you do something like this. 👍 Thanks for watching and good luck!

    The odyssey of Game gear. It was worth it indeed so much a new monitor and furtunalty everything was perfect at the end. Nice feeling to works right something after this effort. Nice SUCRA! 🙂

      Thanks, Niko! Yeah, if that display hadn't worked it would be so embarrasseing. So much work, money, would've been wasted haha. I'm glad it worked indeed.

    A friend of mine recapped and put an RGB TV out and 9pin pad socket mod on mine. It's really nice on the TV but the screen is still pretty horrible. I wish I could fit this mod in as well but I doubt they'd work together. It looks very nice indeed Sucra.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The instructions for this came with the option for the 9 pin out, but I really have no desire to play it anywhere else besides its own display, so I skipped that.

    Nice work! You are braver than me, but fully pulled it off in the end. The Game Gear looks amazing now. Almost up to the fake memories we have from back in the day, hah! Great video and fun to follow along to the finished product.

    sweet upgrade. i love the gamegear even though i never had one myself. i had a gameboy, definitely fun enough but the backlit colour gamegear always felt premium to me, even if the library wasn't. in the early 90s my dad's girlfriend's son was a big tech head, had a gamegear i would play as much as possible - i remember playing some donald duck or mickey mouse game as well as some double dragon (i think?). with all your shorts and twitter posts i got myself a nice big pack of gamegear roms to play. what do you recommend?

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Foil! Thanks! I would recommend Master of Darkness for sure and Sonic 2. These are the ones I played the most and enjoyed the most. I can't really say anything about other games, but I'm sure there are a few good ones out there.

    Thank you for recording and sharing such journey of perseverance. That device def deserves such love and work.
    I would also say regard modern devices, it should have been made illegal to make irreparable devices, or connecting to online service which would become unavailable at some point.

      @SUCRA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, my pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You're right about the right to repair and all. There's a game that has gone off line and people are struggling to get it back, but Richard Harriot wont release the source code. It's Tabula Rasa, and it was online for so little time. I think it didn't sell well.
