    Thanks to everyone that watched the video, I know this one was a bit different than the usual but hopefully it was still enjoyable. Don't forget to check out Rik's and Chris' channel linked in the video description, they are good people and creators of great content. I'm currently working on a photography project for another channel and I'll announce when that video is ready on twitter for the people that would want to check it out. Stay tunned for #GPUJune2, I'm excited for that one, it's a time of a lot of video card content, fun stuff!
    Here are links to videos I made last year for #GPUJune 2021.

    Believe it or not thrifting in Australia used to actually be quite decent up until around 2019. Sure, there was never anything amazing, but a healthy amount of affordable 90s/2000s consoles & games. Since covid however the supply has vastly dried up, I think the thrift stores are basically just cutting out the middle man now (resellers), and selling all their valuable items including consoles on eBay instead of in store.
    I really can't say how many resellers there actually were for old consoles, but I was definitely one of them. I'd buy up probably close to 10 ps1 & ps2 consoles with games each week, and resell them on eBay as tested bundles. This was some life changing money to 10-13 year old me haha.
    It's a shame theres nothing out there anymore, but I'm glad I did get to experience it, cause it was a very fun time in my life and something I'll definitely look back on for years to come. Even if there were still consoles though I definitely wouldn't bother now, there seems to be way less demand in the market for them now, so it's not worth it.
    And yeah yeah, I know, as a reseller I'll probably get some hate, but at the end of the day there was lots of consoles just sitting there collecting dust, but heaps of demand on eBay. It would be stupid to not cash in on it.
    Great video anyways man, good to see some new content!

      Hey, how's it going? Yeah, about thrifting before 2019, that statement is true for almost everywhere. There was never good thrifting here, but at least I could find things online, not the case anymore.
      I'm glad you figured out a way of making some money at 12 years old, that's pretty fantastic to me. Like you said, you were probably doing good by helping to get the consoles in the hands of people that wanted them and were not local.
      Thanks for sharing your story. Have a great weekend!

    As a life-long games/electronics thrift shopper, the number one thing to understand is getting deals requires going to thrift shops regularly and often. If you just visit a shop once every few months or just as a one-off vacation, chances are super low of finding anything on a random stop. Find the good wills/salvation army/independent thrifts/pawn shops/etc. around you and hit them weekly. Most have a day or certain days where new inventory is put out, too. If you can figure out when that day is, make it a point to hit those shops regularly on that day(s). I've rarely (if ever) seen anything desirable with a bargain price still sitting in a thrift store from one week to the next.
    One other thing - It could be option 3 - people who would donate 'retro' items to thrift stores have largely done so over the past 20 years, thus it just doesn't show up as frequently in the thrift stores these days. The Wii/360 / PS2/3 titles of today was the NES/SNES/Genesis stuff of the early 2000s.

    Great video, Bruno! I totally agree. I used to visit a few local thrift stores regularly but stopped when the pandemic hit. It was sometimes fun when you wanted to get out, but in the end it was almost always a disappointing experience. Every once in a blue moon, you'd find a gem burried in a mountain of junk (i.e wireless keyboards without dongles and speakers without power adapters 😄). I found some cool items over the years, but when I consider the time and energy I put into it, I would have been better off just buying those things on eBay. In the last few years, thrifting has become trendy here in Canada, and has moved to big box stores that charge way too much. There aren't many smaller shops in my area any more and most of those seem to specialize in vintage clothing.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, man! Yeah you get exactly what I'm talking about here. I mean, of course anyone can do what they want, but the reality is that retro is trending and things are harder to find.

    Yeah thrifting where I live actually looks worse than that, if you can believe it. I sorta stopped retro game collecting anyway, as the prices are just beyond sanity. I'm much more into repro games now, and if I need an old PC game, jewel cases are fine by me.
    PS Nice shirt! ;)

      I agree on the jewel case, I'm not very picky, usually. As for collecting video games it's something I do less and less, but it's still fun to browse through the stores.
      Ps. I love my Pixel Pipes t-shirt! 😆

    Great video. I am local to the NYC area and thrifting is as you say definitely dead for retro games. You are right in your assumption that pretty much everyone these days knows value and either ebays it or goes to retro stores. Also there is an entire industry of people who do not work and instead just resell everything they find in thrift stores, so you're competing with pros who check daily, and often. Time Warp is indeed crazy expensive, we have more fairly priced shops in NJ. You got some steals at Protein! Personally i check all my local stores as time permits (luckily they all post new stuff on instagram) but the bulk of my purchases comes and has always come from ebay.

    • @SUCRA

      Thanks man! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, well, I guess we have to get on with the times. Where I live there aren't even any thrift shops. Most of my stuff was bought online as well . But it's good to know there's some kind of a scene up in New Jersey. Have a great day. 👍

    pretty much facebook market place is the only place i have a chance of finding anything at a reasonable price 9and only if i checkit 10 times a day).. ebay here in australia is just professional resellers with too much markup... thrift shops here are just mostly a conn, all the good stuff goes to the people who work there, your only chance is hoping something comes in on the day the usual guy who gets it is off...
    out of my last 20 visits i think once i have found a half ok game (wii mario cart disk by itself for $1) also got starcraft 2 and halo 2 for same but they probably have been activated... so most of the time i end up buying some crap that i didnt even want (like a movie or book or a god aweful wii game that even my kids think is total trash).. so i waste half my day and $20 petrol to spend $10 on garbage .. big box games,,haha forget about that!

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well for me it hasn't been facebook, it's not great over here, but we have our own ebay type thing, that's where I got most of my stuff. Yeah the trip to thrift shops, not very productive, just gotta take it for what it is and try to have fun. Thanks for sharing your experience, I'd love to go over to Australia some day and check out the scene there.
