Build A Dope Mental Game With The Best Self-Talk
They say we call it Golf because the other 4-letter word was taken. Well we still use a bunch of choice words on the course, but some of them absolutely destroy our games (and so we have to use more choice words). In this video we'll talk about the 3 key things to avoid when it comes to self-talk so you don't block yourself from playing your best golf.

WHO IS THIS GUY
Hey - I'm Manu, a full-time desk-jobber and part-time golfer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. After 23 YEARS of mindless hacking, I finally got my act together and dropped my handicap from ~12 to scratch.
What I learned is we waste a lot of time at the range, but there are SO MANY THINGS you can do to get big results IMMEDIATELY. I mean literally in ONE SWING. And so I make videos to share what I've learned and help you make the journey WAY faster (and with less frustration). Hope this is helpful!

    When you say 44.5 is that playing length? Cause that’s what most shafts are stock and the play at 45.75 Also I agree the tour 120 x flex is probably the best shaft I’ve used. I actually have graphite mmt now, but I had picked up a 4 iron to match my set and it had that shaft in it. Feels absolutely amazing and definitely responsive And one last thing… I’m the same with wedges. High bounce is a killer, but I have the tw56 in the mg4 and it’s magical. I did get the lbv grind in my 60 with 7 degrees and that is also amazing. Ditched all my vokeys, so my entire bag is now all TM except my Cameron

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yup 44.5 is the playing length. (It's way below stock though I hear some companies are starting to go a little shorter, maybe 45.5 now?) Re: the tour 120 x-flex -- seriously! It just feels so awesome, especially when I swing it right it just feels like the ball just takes off. And re: wedges - that TW grind is so good I can't believe more people don't use it. Is your 60 just a straight up low bounce grind, or something special? I replaced a Vokey 60 L-grind with 4deg of bounce with the TW 60 and it actually works better for me because it's so versatile from all the lies (even though it's listed as having 11deg of bounce - the leading edge grind lets me pick the ball clean from tighter lies.

      @@upbeatgolfer my qi10 is 45.75, but I’m getting an inch cut off when I get the proper weight for the head. As for my 60, is the lbv grind has 7 degrees of bounce. I guess it’s similar to the vokey v grind they had offered in the past, but not positive. It’s a really awesome grind for us shallow players. In regards to the tw grind as you know it’s 12 degrees of bounce, but doesn’t really play like a normal 12 degree wedge cause of the grind

    98%+ of our thoughts and actions are subconscious. ref Dr David Eagleman, "Incognito" author. That being said, our thoughts add and multiply. Thoughts cannot be subtracted. Try to suppress a thought(intention) and it only multiplies. Try not thinking about monkeys for the next 30 seconds.. impossible. Its not how our intellect works. Our subconscious does not do Negatives. Dont hit the ball into the water hazard.. becomes .....hit the ball into the hazard; on our subconscious level. Dont swing fast.. becomes... swing fast. You get the idea Intentions to be effective are Positive. eg Dont drink and drive ( it is well known that when this is used to curb drunk driving, DUI offences increase. When we understand how the subconscious works, the message should be, " Drive sober" or something similiar. There are countless applications to the golf swing and thinking in golf.

    Great tips. Some of them I am getting on myself, eg. like too much coffee and no warm up and too many drivers. But the one with tracking would take a bit of joy out of it for me - too many numbers in my life, I guess.

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Fair enough! I think the coffee and warm up are really big ones. Is it working for you? And tracking is a personal thing -- I now use Arccos sensors to do the shot/strokes gained tracking for me, but I use my scorecard for tracking whatever I'm working on at the time (e.g. having a precise target for every shot, or having good mental focus on every shot etc.).

    32:52 Malaska Move?

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't know enough about the Malaska move (just watched a quick video on it) but it does look similar! I think it's really about finding the right words for you to understand what you want to do, whether it be "shallowing the club" or "pulling the handle down" as Malaska says. Personally I have to be careful of focusing on pulling the handle down because I can get too armsy on the downswing 😅

    This is going to sound mad but ............. this morning while on the way to golf I listened (not watched) The Monkey See Monkey Do vid, now we all know that the golf swing is about rhythm and for some bizarre reason I thought "Monkey See, Monkey Do" would be a great rhythm to swing to (In sequence Monkey See means I See the ball under my shoulder ) anyway shot my best round in ages so thanks

      @upbeatgolfer 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's a tip from Rory that he got from Jack Nicklaus -- in the takeaway, pretend there are razor blades just outside your hands so you need to keep your hands close to your right thigh as you take them back. He explains it in this video (it's free, but you have to log in with an email to see it) www.golfpass.com/watch/golf-features/tip-15-rory-mcilroy-razor-blade-takeaway

    Hey Manu, thanks for sharing the lesson, while I can't swing like either you or Jeff, Jeff's analysis makes perfect sense. Could you please find out if Jeff also teaches a one plane swing :-) I am a flat one planer and I am very hesitant to change, but I could use some help with grip and alignment for sure :-) I am surprised to see how steep your swing plane was with both your iron and driver, I would never have believed it given how far you hit it, but now it makes sense given that you hit it high, far and with that baby cut. Yes if you were to shallow it out per Jeff, it would help you gain more club head speed I guess, not like you need it anymore. :-) and probably get more of a lower penetrating flight. Good luck!

      Yup, that's it. Take a backswing, stop at the top, and then make your downswing. Tiger apparently hated this drill but it was super effective for him. (There's a video of him and Butch Harmon on Golf Channel Academy talking about it from ~2001)

      I agree! My favorite part of working with him is that he understands that everyone has a different swing and works with your tendencies/preferences, vs. trying to fit you into a specific Pro's swing (I've had that happen in the past). He's made a huge difference in my game over the last few years.
