    Hydration is key. I have two different hydration mixes for every round. Two liters in the bag, plus buy an extra water bottle or two along the way. On a hot Texas day, that’s 3-4 liters of water in a given round walking.

      Great call on the hydration mix! What do you use? And have you noticed whether/how it affects your game?

      @@upbeatgolfer I have two mixes: one is a mix of 8 oz of coconut water and three scoops of Kion aminos in a liter bottle with water to fill the container (combo of electrolytes / carbs plus an easily digestible protein), and the other is a liter with two scoops of collagen (~40 grams) plus a powder called Tian Chi and a 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Both of those products are pretty niche, but I’ve been using these with good success in the Texas summer heat. On particularly hot days, I’ll buy water bottles at the course and then either dilute the home brew Gatorade I bring either in a separate cup or drink a bit from the bottle and then add water. This keeps fluid intake high to offset the sweaty days.

      Whoa that is next level hydration + protein mix! I'm gonna try out that coconut water mix (I don't have Kion aminos but some others so hopefully they taste alright :).
      Also interesting that you put collagen in your water - I usually do 40g of collagen in my daily protein shake when I start eating around noon, but haven't tried it in water. I have been looking for a good way to get more protein on the course though, so might try that out. Thanks for the recs!
      Since you're a pro with this - have you ever tried L-theanine in your drinks? I heard Tiger was/is a big user, to the extent that Gatorade tried launching an L-theanine version back in 2009. I've been taking 100mg before my rounds but don't know anyone else who tries it - have you?

      @@upbeatgolfer I haven’t experimented with L-theanine at all, but I have heard good things. What effects do you notice?
      I start the golf day with a whey protein shake 30 grams in 1 cup milk and 1 cup cold brew coffee. Collagen in your protein shake is definitely a good way to make sure to make sure you get it in the diet regularly.
      For the Aminos, that’s just the brand I picked, and the taste was good enough and the price was competitive enough for me not to experiment with other brands. I’m sure others are equally effective if they are from a reputable source. Not trying to push a specific brand.

      Re: L-theanine - I haven't used it enough to get enough data but it *seems to slow/calm me down a bit, which is helpful. I'm going to flex the dosage over the next few rounds to see if I can find an optimum amount + timing - will report my findings!
      Re: protein shake - same, but I do 40g (20g collagen, 15g whey, ~5g from colostrum + chia seeds + cream) with frozen blueberries and A2 milk. It's basically ice cream - friggin magic. Only started it a few months ago when I learned about muscle loss as you get older (plus free excuse for ice cream).
      And totally understood re: aminos - I have the Pure Encapsulations ones at home, but man they do not taste good. Your coconut water recipe sounds like the answer to fix that. Will have to order some and check it out!
      Any other secret food/drink concoctions up your sleeves?

    Love your videos. What protein bar do you recommend?

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Glad you like them! I eat all kinds of protein bars - the main thing I look for is if that don't have any artificial stuff (mostly ingredients I haven't heard of) or fake sugar (I'm ok with real sugar, just not a lot of it), and that they taste good (I'm done eating cardbard masquerading as protein!).
      These days I eat some Kind bars and some Trubar ones I got from Costco. I also do turkey and grass-fed beef sticks for a less sweet snack. As an aside, I've started cutting down on how much I eat on the course in favor of more water. For a while there I was doing like 800+ cal in bars every round, and I'm pretty sure it hurt my game 😅
      You have any favorites or recommendations?
