    I’m all about this. Sometimes I go out with a half set to feel more comfortable over shots, especially if I haven’t been hitting Driver, 60*, 3 wood, etc well. Only carry what you are confident in

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Love it. 1000% agree. I also find I feel a lot more "artistic" when trying to finesse a shot - like hitting a choked down punchy 7i where I would have hit a soft 8i.

      That is awesome (and thank you)! That feeling of just looking at the bag that you meticulously crafted is so great.
      And you could say we're sad, or you could say we're lucky to be able to be so happy with some (fancy) metal sticks :)

    Subbed for the honest no BS look and clean decor 😂.
    I just bought a high launching 5-6 wood. Really tried to fall in love with a low launching chunky 3i, and when I hit it well, it looked so good haha. Took a few hundred $$$ to learn the lesson that, in fact, golf is more fun when your clubs are easier to hit.

      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha love it - thanks for subbing!
      I feel you 1000% on golf is more fun when clubs are easier to hit. But it somehow seems more fun when you're about to buy something that LOOKS so cool. Reminds me of my 90s haircuts that looked amazing on the models in the magazines, but not so much on my head.

    • @zachallard7010
      @zachallard7010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@upbeatgolferwell since you asked.... Haha.
      Ive always played a bit of a loopy swing (way inside on the way back over the top thru) and in order to play a straightish or draw spin shot, I had to set up really closed and play a pull draw. Got me the distance and spin I wanted, but it's too hard to miss-time the impact and get a nasty hook, or a big right block.
      Took some lessons and got squared (neutraled out) and am attacking the ball a lot more shallow and hinging through impact as opposed to pulling the club through.
      Gained some distance but most importantly misses are more short long, rather than hook/block.
      As for short game, I literally only practice :
      25y pitch
      55y pitch
      Running chips
      3ft putts
      6ft putts
      Lag/distance putts
      Pretty neat and tidy, I get it all done in about 1.5hrs once a week, twice if I'm lucky!

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that loopy swing! I used to have the exact same one -- the inside takeaway was ruining everything but it took me years to finally get over my ego and take a lesson in which my coach solved it in 2 seconds. Glad you got it sorted!
      Love the structured practice setup - how have you found it working for you? And do you ever mix it up (e.g. bunker practice, or greenside chips to a short sided pin?

  • @maer9

    Head weights for drivers are usually including the adapter (cally is about 8 grams IIRC). I still suspect your head is a bit on the lighter side, it May not be as bad as you think. 191 without adapter isn't unheard of, but good of Callaway to send you a replacement!

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah got it, thanks! I thought it was weird because my Mavrik head was 201g without the adapter and the three weights I got for the Rogue ST line were all in that range (~200-205g).
      I got the replacement recently and turns out the head weight was fine, but for some reason the removable weight in my original driver was 2g while the one in the replacement was 6g. Very strange given that both were brand new from the factory! Callaway also sent me a 14g removable weight so I popped that into the new driver and we're good to go at roughly 202g. I also tried out a 12g weight from Amazon, but the 14g weight worked better.
      Callaway definitely came through with some great customer service, though I will be checking all the removable weights on clubs in the future!

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously. It can feel tough to take those "fun" clubs out but most of us don't realize how hard they are to hit. Respect!
      On a related note, when any of my beginner friends get a 60°, I tell them that their games are going to first get worse before they get better because a) the 60° is legitimately hard to hit, and b) the moment you get a 60°, every shot from 60yds and in becomes a flop shot 😅

  • @ariasfit

      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously! Which mini driver did you get?

    • @mikeslimjimlim
      @mikeslimjimlim ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@upbeatgolfer I tend to swing down on my driver and 3 wood so I have higher loft (10-10.5) in my driver so i got taylormade mini driver 300 in 13.5. It’s be a great move in my bag as I have a fairway finder on most holes where I just need to hit something in play. I am a longer hitter so I never hit my 3 wood into par 5s unless I hit a terrible drive and even then I’ll just layup if I’m 270 out. My 5 wood goes 245-250 carry and that’s about as far as I need a fairway wood to go. Matt Blois from TXG also didn’t really have a 3 wood in his bag because he never needed it as well.

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really interesting - so you basically have two clubs for different lengths off the tee. (Also I didn't know that about Matt). How come you picked the mini driver over a strong 3W (13.5deg)? E.g. bigger face area, less spin etc.?

    • @mikeslimjimlim
      @mikeslimjimlim ปีที่แล้ว

      @@upbeatgolfer bigger face mainly but the less spin part kinda makes it very close to my driver. It also serves as a backup tee club. I honestly never got comfortable with 3 woods in general. I only have confidence hitting it off the tee but off the ground not so much. Some days when the driver isn’t listening I’ll bench it and play the mini and not sacrifice much for it

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is fascinating. Makes perfect sense about the less spin than a 3W. I will have to try it out! (I tend to use my 3W off the ground a lot, so might have to test the mini driver for that too.)
