  • In this video, we continue the journey we started in part 1 ( • How I dropped from 10➞... ) about the things I did to drop my handicap from 10 to 0.7 (almost scratch, soo close!) in less than 2 years.
Part 1 covered the OFF-course stuff I did like "Upped my golf IQ", and "Fixed key trouble shots", and Part 2 (this video) covers the stuff I did ON the course like "Mental warm up" and "Hero scores not hero shots".
Hope this is helpful! Let me know with the like button, and drop me a comment with what you liked/what worked!
STUFF I MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO
    - [Fancy] Theragun Prime: amzn.to/45yQ7Oz
(This is the one I currently use. It's definitely better than the more budget options, and has some nice bells and whistles)
    - [Budget] Sportneer massage gun: amzn.to/3ZWCF65
(When I bought this, it was $110, and totally worth it. It's quite good. At the time of writing this, it's ~$60 which is a DEAL. Not as good as the Theragun but still great to get the muscles working FAST before a round)
    - Arccos sensors (for shot tracking): amzn.to/46LpJ5i
(I love these for tracking my rounds, and seeing how I played vs. my target handicap. Also it is VERY COOL seeing my longest drives of the day!)
*If you're into improving your game, I highly recommend this book:*
    Tiger's How I Play Golf: amzn.to/3KHalyD
THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. Teaches you all the stuff you would have to spend years figuring out on the course, has tons of pictures and clear explanations, and stands the test of time (I've had my copy over 20 years, and everyone I've recommended it to, loves it).
Annnddd...here are a couple of my other videos that other folks have liked/found useful:
    - How to suck less at par 3s: • Instant strokes gained...
    - What's IN my bag: • This setup took me fro...
    - What's NOT in my bag: • 3 things I TOOK OUT of...
(PS: some of the links listed are affiliate links so I might get a kickback from them, which I will then spend on golf balls that I will lose on the course and thus the circle of life continues)

    WHO AM I
I'm Manu, a full-time desk-jobber and part-time golfer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. After 23 YEARS of hacking at the ball, I finally got my act together and dropped my handicap from ~10 to ~1 in two years.
And I learned we waste a lot of time at the range trying to get better, but there are SO MANY THINGS you can do to get big results IMMEDIATELY. And so I make videos to share what I've learned and help you make the journey WAY faster (and with less frustration). Hope this is helpful!

Love your work bro you have helped me to start taking lessons and tbinking more about my routines. One thing that has helped my "mental state" is to stop trying to be / beat the people around me. I use the mental cue: comparison is the thief of joy. Since then I have started to enjoy my game a lot more, still a long ways to go for me though 😀

I love your videos. I wish there were more tbh. I love the detail, the grind, sense of humour and passion for the game. If you can think of more video ideas this channel could blow up. On course vlogs, practice sessions, golf fitness. Have a buddy film a match and do voice overs etc. Also what are the 9 things you run through before each shot? We need it all don’t be teasing now 😂

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks a ton for this comment dude - made my week! Glad you like them. I have MANY more ideas drafted up, just need more time to film and edit them. (Working on coming up with a more efficient system so I can make more, and more frequently!)
Thanks for the ideas, I'm working on a vlog now but hadn't thought of the practice session or golf fitness topics, great call!
      And the 9 steps are:
      Conditions (1 - Lie, 2 - Wind, 3 - Topography (uphill, downhill etc))
      Target (4 - Distance, 5 - Land/roll spots, 6 - Where to miss)
      Swing (7 - Shot shape, 8 - Club, 9 - Swing feel)
(They're also in the video at 19:40)
The main things I want to get out of the prep are landing spot and swing feel. Those basically encompass all the other "think box" stuff into what's actionable.
Hope this is helpful. Lmk what you think!

      @@upbeatgolfer I can’t believe I somehow missed the 9 steps! 😂🤦🏻‍♂️
Glad to hear you have plenty of ideas to get your teeth into. Look forward to more great content. Feedback wise I’d say you’re thumbnails are great with you, cool graphics and unique colours. Perhaps the video title makes them less likely to be searched for and untimely found by more people. I could be wrong obviously.
Your content dives deeper than most I’d say. You could do some diluted vids for the average handicappers and beginners. “How to break 100” (90, 80 etc)
      “How I fixed my slice”
      “Never top the ball again”
      “Strike your irons pure”
Winter golf related content etc… you get the drill. Try and get more eyeballs on your channel even if it means doing videos you might not love for the short term. Can you hit people up for a segment on a podcast or TH-cam match? Whatever it takes to get the exposure to breakthrough and establish yourself. Erndog golf - guys has the passion like you, different style but I bet he’d love your outlook and he has 15k subs so you could help each other maybe. You’re smarter than me so I’m sure you have plenty of good ideas. I’ve watched TH-cam golf for years so want you to follow your journey to 50k subs now 👍
Last random thought: could you offer a course management service based on their yardages, tendencies and goals? Across data might be a prerequisite for it to be viable. Could you outsource this to someone else? I think you have a lot to offer is all.
      Love it all 👍

Ironically, TH-cam plays a large role :) I'll see swing ideas or course management tips on TH-cam to try out and I'll try them in practice/on the range. Unfortunately, when I get to the course it usually stops working, but since it worked in practice I don't want to discard them but just keep adding more ideas :D@@upbeatgolfer

Great tips. Some of them I am getting on myself, eg. like too much coffee and no warm up and too many drivers. But the one with tracking would take a bit of joy out of it for me - too many numbers in my life, I guess.

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Fair enough! I think the coffee and warm up are really big ones. Is it working for you?
And tracking is a personal thing -- I now use Arccos sensors to do the shot/strokes gained tracking for me, but I use my scorecard for tracking whatever I'm working on at the time (e.g. having a precise target for every shot, or having good mental focus on every shot etc.).

    • @henninghghjensen3771

@@upbeatgolfer ok - will think about how to improve tracking. I am improving and mostly because a better mental focus. But still must to gain here.

Love both your on course and off course videos. I am currently a 11 handicap who’s decided I want to get down to scratch so I intend to put many of these suggestions into practice. One question is I do struggle with my mindset and find that I often get into a bad head space if I am not playing well, any articles books or other info you can recommend to help with this, maybe something that helped you?

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks dude - glad you like the content! And glad to hear you're on the journey to scratch...feels pretty awesome as it starts coming together.
GREAT question re: getting into a bad head space when you're not playing well. I have a few suggestions for stuff that's worked for me, lmk what you think.
      1. Adjust your goals for the day: a lot of us tend to set scoring goals for the day (e.g. "I just want to shoot my handicap today") and when that starts seeming out of reach we give up. But what I found is that in the process of spending 4-5h on the course, there were a lot of takeaways, like 70 reps of my pre-shot routine, practicing my course management decision-making on complex shots, calculating wind, slope, and green receptivity adjustments, and going back and forth from "chilling" mode while walking to "championship golfer" mode while hitting.
If I gave up on the round just because I had a few bad shots, I'd miss out on all these other great things I could learn which would help me get closer to my goals. So suggestion #1 is to set some input goals (like having a precise target on every shot, or executing your pre-shot routine on every shot) instead of output goals (like score), and also look for all the other stuff you're learning/getting from the time on the course.
      2. Recognize that before you can string together 18 awesome holes, you have to string together 9 awesome holes (and 3 awesome holes before that): as golfers we can be pretty hard on ourselves and set some really lofty goals, which leads to lots of ways to be disappointed and very few ways to be happy. And trying to have a great 18 holes is one surefire way to be disappointed. So maybe you play the round in 6 sets of 3 holes, or 3 sets of 6 holes, and see how well you can keep your focus and hit your goals for the next set.
Personally I use this tool A LOT when things aren't going well (usually in sets of 3 holes because it's easier to focus on a shorter set). E.g. say I played the front nine worse than I would like -- I might then decide to play the next three holes as simply as possible (FW, GIR, 2-putt), or swing at 80% for the next three holes, etc.
      3. Change the meaning you're giving the bad shots: I mentioned this in the video, but it bears repeating because I think it's quite possibly the most powerful thing I've ever learned:
It's not what happens to me, it's the meaning I decide to give it.
I learned this from Tony Robbins: www.tonyrobbins.com/why-meaning-is-everything
Long story short, I decided that everything on the course happens in my favor. So if things aren't going well, I try to figure out what I'm learning from that. So I don't usually give up if things aren't working because I believe that this adversity is training me for bigger days (the whole "he who sweats more in training bleeds less in battle" thing).
And there are some days when things aren't going well that I decide to just let it go and have fun with my friends instead, but I also take that to be a positive thing.
Wow - this is more of an essay than a comment, but I hope you find it helpful. Lmk what resonates with you!
