Struggling DURING a round? How to FIX it in MINUTES

    spoiler alert! I had a great come back story today just one day after watching this video. I was 5 over after 4 holes with two double bogies, I then went 2 under for the next five holes with a par, a bogie and three, yes three birdies and I broke 40 for the first time. I had to comment because somehow I think my subconscious was telling me not to give up. btw, I have never made 3 birdies in an 18 hole round let alone 9 holes. thanks for the great advice and love the humor :)

      That is fantastic! Broke 40 with two doubles! How great a comeback story is that?! And three birdies in 9 holes...that is legit!

    hi there - you mentioned a distraction I struggle with at times and I was wondering what your take (or anyone else's for that matter) on it is: helping other players to look for a lost ball. Obviously when I play a casual round of golf with a buddy, it's a no brainer, you just do it. However, when I play a HCP relevant tournament, I would rather focus on my next shot than look for a ball. At the same time, I don't want to be THAT guy standing there waiting while the rest of the flight is being helpful. So what to do? Is there a netiquette for this scenario?

      Great question! And it's an odd one for sure. Here are my thoughts (though others might have different POVs).
      In a tournament, I will help the other players look for a ball if a) it's close to mine, b) I have hit my shot already, or c) I'm out of contention but they're in contention. I generally do my best to be courteous and help out as much as possible, but if they're losing balls on every hole, I'm probably going to only help if it's near mine.
      I think most people understand that in a tournament you're supposed to be focused on YOUR game, not babysitting someone else, so hopefully you don't get any complaints.
      The other HUGE thing for me is what I tell myself when I'm helping someone look for their ball (i.e what does it mean for me if I spend time helping someone else during an important round?). I used to assume that it was disruptive to my rhythm but then I realized that thought wasn't helping me, and it wasn't necessarily true. So now I use the time I'm looking to relax my shoulders and breathe, and just enjoy the walk in the grass in a meditative sort of way. It's a fairly low stress look too (because it's not my ball!) so I use the time to bring my own mental state back to center, which HELPS me hit my next shot.
      I also try not to jump into the future and think about what I'm going to do next, or lament a bad shot, but instead make it more like a commercial break when I get to chill and just enjoy being outside (and in the summer time I watch pretty carefully for snakes because California!). One of the things that causes issues during important rounds is fatigue because we're so mentally ON the whole time, so little breaks like this can be a great opportunity to let the mind rest.
