Wild camping, hiking and bike touring videos of places I’ve visited in Ireland - from mountains, islands, coastal and inland trails. The majority of my trips are done alone which make them very personal in the time I’m spending with myself.
They might inspire you to visit places you haven’t seen before or re-visit a place you once visited. Solo trips like these have become a valuable part of my life and maybe one of these videos might inspire you to do the same if you feel any inner yearning to do so.
I’m pretty new to wild camping and hiking - but in a few short years I’ve learned the basics of navigation and invested in gear that makes it more enjoyable and comfortable for me. The freedom and pleasure that comes from spending time with myself in nature will hopefully be evident to you in some small way from watching these videos.
I hope you enjoy the content and thanks for watching!

Exploring Bere Island - Biking, Walking & Camping
Two nights spent exploring the wonderful Bere Island with fabulous weather. There are many places of interest on Bere Island including - Martello Towers, Ardnakinna Lighthouse, Holy Year Cross, Gallán Standing Stone and Bere Island Heritage and Information Centre to name a few. I brought a bike which helped cover a lot of ground but some places of interest were definitely more accessible by foot so the combination worked well for me. The island is 11km long by 4km wide (and not 10km x 2 km as stated in the video).
There are two separate ferry operators serving the island from Castletownbere and another about 5km outside Castletownbere. The two ferry providers bring you to different parts of the island.

Such a beautiful island and the cove you camped in was perfect. You made my mouth water with the sight of your sausage bap. Glad the weather stayed dry for you, here we've had a lousy summer with far too much rain. It gets a bit boring having to remember to take the rain gear with you. Thanks for a lovely start to my day Miriam and I'm already looking forward to another video.
@@colinwellman9480 thanks so much Colin! The rain has been relentless here too recently 🤦♀️ I’ve injured my knee so I can’t get up to much anyway but it’ll be nice to get out and about again when the weather and my knee behaves!! 🤞 You have me thinking of a sausage bap now which would be nice!! 😂
Great video, wonderful scenery.
@@divild1 thanks very much Dom 🤗
Tent right on edge of Scart Beach, amazing sunset/sunrise AND a jam and sausage bun. Doesn’t get better than that! So good the weather was kind as drone shots were particularly good. Many thanks for sharing the trip with us as always.

Yet another wonderful video Miriam, thankyou again for returning to The Aran Islands. I spoke with you under a year ago when you went to Inishmean, I myself was born on Inishmore, now living in England. Wonderful to see your energy and views of the island and love your drone film. As a child in the 60's my late mother took myself and my brother to the wormhole so, was nice to see it again this way via you. I do wish you well in good health so do take good care. My kind regards to you Tomas O 'Flaherty
Hi Tomas - nice to hear from you again 😊 So great to be reminded that you were born on Inis Mór…wow! What a place to have hailed from! This was such a special trip for me to do, I’ve stored some great memories from my time there now. So much to see and it’s impossible not to be moved by the power of the place. A very sacred place! Delighted you have those memories of the wormhole, lovely to have heard about them 🙏 I’m doing very well (apart from a banjaxed knee and a crick in my neck) 🫣 Thanks again!
@@MiriamKennedy Love your videos Miriam you have a lovely aura around you that gives out ease, strength and grace and I give you much respect and sent support for your good health. I visited my island and the other 2 some 8 years ago, was wondrous to see the other 2 at last. I always try to visit other islands when last abroad, guess it must be my being born on an island thing!!. Sorry the unpredictable weather halted your time there, I got soaked on InishMean but loved it even more as I lay in a field up against a stone wall getting damn wet lol. Not religous Miriam but call myself spiritual and always feel that sensation on those islands, more so when the majority of tourists have gone home and you can feel in touch with the serenity and deemed isolation of the surroundings. Real glad to hear your doing very well now, stay good lady. If your ever in Nottingham to come say hi and I'll show you around Sherwood Forest et al Take great care now. Tomas formerly of Killeany, Inishmore.

Thank you Susanna!! 🤗 I was surprised how much this island offered - such a relaxed and lovely spot, it certainly delivered! That beach was fab - I should have hopped in the water that morning but I thought I’d save it until later in the day and then the opportunity escaped! 🤦♀️ The red sitmat is always close to hand (and bum!) - I’ve lost a few over the years!! @@MiriamKennedy Hi Miriam. I'm currently trying Shilajit for my CFS and I've actually started to try some home exercise to see if I can push through the fatigue. Will need longer to see if it might be working but just being able now to attempt some exercise is better than normal. If I get just even normal energy back it would feel like I have the potential to have a life again. I was talking to guy who walks in the local countryside where I go but he walks to fast for me and I said I liked to take in and enjoy the beautiful countryside and he replied " I couldn't give a shit about it". Horses for courses I guess. He was just walking to walk. Not us. Weather seems to affect me a lot and walking in the sun really feels nice. I still cycle too but generally ache a lot with that if any distance. It seems life is largely about being ill lol.

Thanks for all of the time and effort you put into these videos - the combination of scenery, music and your easy going commentary are almost therapeutic!
@@chelladugg Hi Richella! Thank you for your lovely message 🤩 Yes Bere island was surprisingly big to me too - it certainly had plenty for me to see, unfortunately some of those things were at the top of hills 😇 Such a lovely place though. So nice to take the camera along and that anyone would take a look at the video - makes it very worthwhile 🤗 I hope you’re enjoying the long days, I certainly am! Thanks again Richella xx
Absolutely magic video. Multi million dollar Block busters don’t do for me what little reflections on a persons reality like this one can do. Somehow took me right back to the proper pace of life that’s so hard to find until you get out west. I’ve never been to Bere island. So beautiful and intoxicatingly so in the weather you found. Your gear is so tidy and light. Less is more. I’m always learning. The mortello towers are intriguing because they’re made in the local dry stone wall style rather than cut granite like in Dublin. “A few ideas but no fixed plan for the day” There’s a motto to travel by. Thanks for sharing as always.
Thanks Robin!! You seem to find similar places of solitude when you take your boat (whatever the correct term is!) and overlander to off the beaten track places! Always a pleasure to find these places. I thought Bere would have been a place you had visited. On my way into the Lighthouse Cinema here for some other escapism 🤗

I absolutely love Bere Island. I spent many days there with the FCA or the Army Reserve as it is now called. I got to zip line across the strand where you camped, shoot on the range & go fishing off the rocks. The history of the island is unreal from Vikings using it as a base & somewhere to repair their long boats, the Martello towers you mentioned & of course Loneheart battery which is a huge fort built by the British to defend their fleet. The whole island has the most incredible vibe that it is simply indescribable but you certainly nailed it. Thank you. Keep up the great work.

I had a blood cancer and, after 7 wonderful, grateful years, I have checks 4 monthly. That tells me my friendEMY is likely to return. I live opposite the ocean, with wild Bush in front of me, kookaburras nesting, (check out a kookaburras dawn laugh) lavender in my garden with native and blue banded bees on it. I kayak with a Prijon Marlin ..did 19.5 Klms recently and ride my ebike and organic garden. Life is very altered to me preC days... less energy, more selective of the energy I allow into my world... but I am supported by loving people...I feel blessed to have had those years. I wish you many wonderful years ahead and hope that you are supported by loving, caring relationships. I love your cheeky smile as you set off on another adventure. I just wish I could send you photos of the tropical, wild beauty of where I live...the walks in the National Park, the vistas of white flannels flowers, the whales migrating. Off to learn how to play croquet today. Keep smiling and being cheeky and hatching another adventure. Xx
You clearly love your home and describe it so beautifully! 😊 I spent 9 months in Australia in 1999-2000 and I've still very fond memories of my time there and the wonderful sounds, smells and people that I came across. Maybe I'll venture there again some time! Like you, I'm a lot more selective about my energy in recent years. This is my second rodeo with cancer and since 2015 I seemed to lose interest and motivation for foreign travel and have wanted nothing more than occasional nights away on my own to see parts of my own homeland that I have yet to see. It is still enthralling me until now anyway...hopefully I'll keep wanting to hatch adventures and create memories with the camera while I'm able! I will imagine the wild beauty of your surroundings but of course it won't come close to it! You are very lucky by the sounds of things!! 🤗
