Wild camping, hiking and bike touring videos of places I’ve visited in Ireland - from mountains, islands, coastal and inland trails. The majority of my trips are done alone which make them very personal in the time I’m spending with myself.
They might inspire you to visit places you haven’t seen before or re-visit a place you once visited. Solo trips like these have become a valuable part of my life and maybe one of these videos might inspire you to do the same if you feel any inner yearning to do so.
I’m pretty new to wild camping and hiking - but in a few short years I’ve learned the basics of navigation and invested in gear that makes it more enjoyable and comfortable for me. The freedom and pleasure that comes from spending time with myself in nature will hopefully be evident to you in some small way from watching these videos.
I hope you enjoy the content and thanks for watching!

A strenuous yet rewarding hike & camp - Glencorbet Horseshoe, Twelve Bens Connemara
This is a strenuous walk but so rewarding when you have the weather like I did to take in the views. I’d imagine most walkers would complete this as a day hike but a high camp was certainly attractive given the conditions. The small lakes at Benbrack and An Lochán on the Benbaun descent provided me with enough water for the duration of the hike and camp. The visibility was spectacular throughout and it definitely paid to wait until good conditions allowed me to see where I was going and that I could show the place off. The traditional Glencorbet Horseshoe route excludes the ascent of small Benbaun and Mucanacht - but sure why not!

Highs & Lows while Brompton Touring the Ring of Kerry - 185km (3 nights camping)
มุมมอง 7K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Having never seen the entire Ring of Kerry before, I took the opportunity to cycle a loop of the Iveragh peninsula on my Brompton. Altogether on this trip, I cycled about 185/190km and camped for 3 nights along the way. This is a wonderful loop which brings you through a number of small yet busy towns and includes coastal views with some mountain passes thrown in for luck. This is a popular rou...
Exploring Bere Island - Biking, Walking & Camping

Two nights spent exploring the wonderful Bere Island with fabulous weather. There are many places of interest on Bere Island including - Martello Towers, Ardnakinna Lighthouse, Holy Year Cross, Gallán Standing Stone and Bere Island Heritage and Information Centre to name a few. I brought a bike which helped cover a lot of ground but some places of interest were definitely more accessible by foo...

An overnight trip to cycle through the wonderful Gap of Dunloe and climb the spectacular Purple Mountain in Kerry. The start of the Gap of Dunloe is approximately 13km from Killarney and is 6km long. This was a long awaited trip as I've been undergoing treatmen...
Exploring Inis Mór, Aran Islands - Brompton Bike Adventure

An overnight trip to Inis Mór (Inishmore) with my Brompton bike and tent. This island is one of my favourite places to spend time - there are so many interesting places to visit but it is the feeling that this island evokes that makes it truly special. Some of the places explored included: Poll na bPéist (Wormhole), Dún Dúchathair (Black Fort), Na Poill Séideáin (Blowholes/Puffing Holes) & Tigh...
Wildcamping with a Brompton - Sheep's Head Peninsula, Ireland

An overnight trip with the Brompton to explore the Sheep's Head Peninsula in West Cork. I started this cycle at Gerahies and cycled to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula on the first day (24km with steep hills and passing through Ahakista & Kilcrohane). On the second day I went back in the direction of Ahakista and finished at Durras (27km and a lot easier than the first day). Even whil...

A hike through the Derryveagh Mountains along the commonly known Seven Sisters route from Muckish to Errigal. The mountains along this route included: Muckish, Crocknalaragagh, Aghla Beg, Ardloughnabrackbaddy, Aghla More, Beaghy (in addition to the seven sisters), Mackoght & Errigal (from the North Face). Durston X-Mid 1 Winter Camp - Lough Ouler, Wicklow

The purpose of this trip was to hopefully find some snow and camp. I brought my new lightweight tent - the Durston X-Mid 1 with a 4 season inner to see how it would be to camp in these conditions. I started my hike at the Glenmacnass Waterfall Carpark and followed the Glenmacnass river to eventually meet a track that brings you up to Lough Ouler. As I climbed higher the snow on top of Tonelagee...
Frosty camp in the Hilleberg Akto - New Year's Day pleasure!
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
There was snow in Wicklow in December and I managed to get out for a few hikes, unfortunately I couldn't camp as I had Christmas plans catching up with friends on a few nights. I was eager to camp at least once before returning to work and if possible to experience a snow camp. The weather and social plans aligned that New Years Day was a good possibility - in the run up to the date, the weathe...
Brompton touring in County Clare
มุมมอง 17Kปีที่แล้ว
A three day cycling trip through County Clare with my Brompton Bike - the purpose of this trip was to visit and camp at the Cliffs of Moher. I tagged in a visit to a friend also which enabled me to explore a lot more of the county. The Cliffs of Moher are one of Irelands top tourist attractions, where visitors are greeted with spectacular views of these lengthy cliffs (when the weather is kind)...
Safe in my Hilleberg Akto - Glendalough & Camaderry
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
An impromptu video of a wildcamp in Wicklow with winds far stronger than I was anticipating - thankfully I had my new Hilleberg Akto tent with me. Glendalough is a wonderful place to visit and its car parks are usually filled with tourist buses but it doesn't take too long to escape the crowds and access the mountains. I decided to camp at the summit of Camaderry and when conditions are right, ...

A Challenging Hike - Glencoaghan Horseshoe

The Glencoaghan Horseshoe looped walk located in the Twelve Bens in Connemara is a challenging route. This hike traverses six of the Twelve Ben Mountains - Derryclare, Bencorr, Bencollaghduff, Benbreen, Bengower & Benlettery. The views on a clear day are spectacular and although the hike is long (the horseshoe loop is about 12.5km with an additional 3.5km by road), the effort was worth it. Havi...

So, so amazing - every time! I hope you're feeling well still. Thanks for taking all of us on your adventures!
Hi Chris! Thank you for joining me on this little trip, nice memories 😉 I’m feeling very well thanks - back at work and coping ok with that. One of my treatments is an injection every 3 weeks for a year and I’ve my last one next week and another is a hormone treatment for 5 years and I seem to be tolerating that one ok too. I do hope you’re doing ok and that your treatment is progressing well and has been doing its job! Take good care of yourself and wishing you well!!
Really enjoy you videos, been watching for a while. Ireland looks beautiful, the tourist board should sign you up! I will ( I will), get my Dahon out of the shed next year and I'd love to tour my local area and beyond. Thanks for the inspiration.
Ha!! Thank you 🤗 I hope you do get your Dahon out of the shed and have some lovely adventures 🤞 Thanks so much for letting me know you’ve enjoyed the videos, what a lovely message to read! You’ve inspired me today now too…have a nice day today. Ireland is being battered by Storm Bert today so I’m laying low 😉
@@MiriamKennedy Nice to hear from you Miriam. Coincidentally, I was close to being battered in the pub car park last night. Bert arrived a few hours later. Been watching some more this morning. Please keep well. And best wishes.
Glad you survived your pub car park near miss!! 🙃 Thanks for watching some videos - nice to hear!! Take care today yourself 🤩
Brilliant video Miriam - really enjoyed that
Thanks so much! Your message prompted me to watch this video again, what a trip! So glad that I got to do it 😉 Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!
Beautiful, inspiring and such great photography. Well done and thank you.
Thank you Brian! Such great conditions for this walk - I loved it!! The little drone did very well with the beautiful light to show the place off 😊
Beautiful video and some great ideas for both the journey and food.
Thanks John! Some great memories from this trip - long days, blue skies and peddling free! 😎
Thank you, I really enjoyed watching your trip. The Brompton looks awesome. Beautiful beaches. Just goes to show that a cycling trip doesn’t need to be months away from home to recharge. Keep on riding 👋
Thank you!! There’s lots of places in little old Ireland for me to still explore 😉 Thanks for your message, I really appreciate it!
One for the bucket list next year
You’ll love it I’m sure Owen!! 😎
How are you keeping
All very good Owen thanks! I’m back at work and getting out on the hills when I can 😉
Superbe .
Merci 😊
Congrats on the sunrise...as good as it gets, I would say. Beautiful day also. 😊
Thanks Patrick! Always nice when the weather behaves as you would like 😎 So nice to be out in weather like that!
Another beautiful and engaging video. One more that has made me determined to get back home next year. Your style of vlog is very engaging- well done.
Thanks very much John, I appreciate it!! Almost a year ago now that I did that trip I believe. Hope you get back home for that trip next year🤞😊
@ just shared your channel with my wife as I think she will also be inspired. Keep up the great work Miriam.
Ah thanks John - I hope she enjoys them 🤗 I’m taking a break from the videos for the next while but I might get back at it again eventually!!
Just what I needed, thanks for the lovely antidote to all the political madness and war right now!
Thank you! Nice to hear that it offered some reprieve Catherine 😉 Take care out there…🙃
Love your style and presentation. As an Irishman living in the Peak District who gets out as much as possible over here you have set a touch-paper for me to get home to do more in my homeland. I’ve walked a tiny bit of Donegal but you have expanded my horizons to what is available. Thank you.
Thank you John! That’s lovely of you to say 😊 I’m kept busy exploring over here anyway and I realise that I’ve still so much more to see. You must be very content with your hiking over in the Peak District! Our lesser mountains await your visits…thanks so much for your message - really nice to receive 🤗
The rock formations look like Inukshuk/inuksuk from the Iqaluit people. Just found your channel and am enjoying several videos. Good lord, Ireland is so much like Newfoundland.
Thank you Maureen! That’s so interesting to hear, Newfoundland must be a very special place 😉 Really nice to hear from you and I wish you well today!! 🙏
Absolute Wow!!! Fantastic video, amazing views, incredible hike, thanks for sharing. Hope all is well....
Thanks very much Niall! That’s a lovely message to receive 😎 All is good with me thanks - hope you’re keeping well yourself!!
That's brilliant
Beautiful Miriam, that sunset on the first night at the wee beach looked amazing, It must have been so chilled! Love your adventures, your videos feel like they really take us along for the ride too. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers Gary 🙂 A great little escape - blue skies and warm temperatures…ah bliss! Very quiet while I was there - it felt like I had the place to myself. Some nice memories for sure…thanks for your message!!
Fantastic. Well done. Beautiful videos too. You were blessed with the weather 😊
Thanks very much Martin!! So lucky - I jumped at the chance when the weather was looking so good 😊
Loved seeing Bere Island Miriam. I can sympathize with you going up those hills as I just came back from doing the Camino in Portugal and the hills were killing me. Loved your music and the sunset and spectacular views. Thanks for taking us along
Thanks very much Annie! Summer memories - the long days and blue skies…nice to be reminded of them 🤦♀️ Hope your trip on the Camino went well…you’re living the life!! Bere island turned out to be another lovely little spot to spend some time…very quiet when I was there. Thanks so much for your message and for checking out the video!! 🙏 Take good care!! 😉
What a beautiful hike! That scenery was amazing. Sorry I am a bit late checking your latest video out. You Tube no longer tells me when you post so I have to go looking. This was such a peaceful video. Love the music combined with the wonderful drone shots. Your smiling face throughout shows how at peace you are with live. Thanks for taking us along.
Awww thank you for your lovely message! A hike I’m keen to keep remembering - it felt so great to get conditions like this to see the range in all its glory 😊 It always feels like a lucky break when the forecast works out as hoped! Thanks so much for joining me - a real pleasure to hear you enjoyed it. I hope all is well with you! 😉
Hi Miriam, just thought I'd link in. Meant to have results from prostate biopsy 29th October but now have to wait till 19th December. Don't know what to think. Hope your doing well.❤❤
Hi Alan - the waiting must be really tough. That’s a very long time to have to wait…you poor thing! Fingers and toes crossed that you’ll hear good news in December 🤞 I’m doing pretty well thanks Alan - I’m back at work but I’ve been well enough to be out in my tent for the last three weekends on the trot…always a good sign!! 😉 Take good care and thanks for letting me know what’s been happening!
Thank you for this video - what a scenery - what a good quality - your describing words👍 . Of course I am checking out your further videos. I wish you the best.
Thank you very much Eric - that’s lovely to hear! I thoroughly enjoyed this trip 😊

Thanks very much Emmett for letting me know you enjoyed it 🤗 I was very blessed with the weather for sure - always nice when the forecast actually works out 😉
Lovely film, thank you for sharing the beautiful scenery and fab music.
Thank you Tony! 😊 I was learning how to use the drone on this one and having fun in the snow - such a nice day!
Beautiful scenes there. Great video 🙂👍

Fantastic video... you did a great job (as always) with the filming... beautiful shots... I will pick up a copy of the guidebook you referenced and hopefully plan a visit to the area. It looks great. Thanks for sharing! 🙏
Thank you Richard 🤗 Some lovely rocky terrain like you have in the Mournes. That book has served me well for hikes in Mayo and Connemara in recent years, it’s very good! Thanks for watching this and your message 😊
You are amazing ❤
Ha!! Thanks Nigel ❤️
New nothing of Darts and its popularity. Your young hero is a lucky lad.
😂😂 I’ve the fire lit and I’m watching the darts here again this evening 🤭 While watching - I’m packing my bag for a cold camp tomorrow night!! 🤗

Thanks very much Nigel 🤗
Pink hat brings me back.😊
It was the first outing of a new pink hat - a gift from a friend for my birthday 😂
Beautiful quote at the beginning of the movie and a wonderful journey.
Thank you 🙏 Very glad that you liked the quote - he knew a thing or two our John Moriarty! I hope you’re keeping well 😉
I work that area a couple of times a week and occasionally I've sneakily pitched a tent on top of a cliff not far from Wellington Bridge and stayed over. Fabulous part of the world. Hoping my next camp will be in the Northwest though. North Leitrim is calling to me.. 😁
Ha brilliant!! Such a great coastline for some sneaky camps 😉 Hope your North Leitrim camp works out soon…the weather is looking good for me to get a sneaky camp in Wicklow this weekend 🤞
@@MiriamKennedy Oh I love it. Wicklow is a touch of class. I'm hoping for somewhere near Glencar. BTW, Durston bringing out the X-Dome.. think I'm in love. A freestanding tent weighing about a kg. The X-Mid is taking a back seat for the time being 😅😅😅😅
Yes I saw the X-Dome has been released - a thing of beauty!! 🤩 Happy dreaming and shopping 😎
Loved the video, thank you, very informative.
Thanks very much Nigel 😊
Hi Miriam. Just found your channel by accident and loving it. Think this is my fourth or fifth video to watch since last night 😂 Can you tell me what tent you're using in this? Looks like the Mongar but the red inner has me confused .. but its not difficult to confuse me 😅 Keep posting, great content.
Thanks very much and great to hear about your accidental landing on my little videos 🤗 This tent is the MSR Access 2 - it’s marketed as a 4 season tent but I would never use it in very high winds. It has less mesh in the inner, more stability on the central pole and a greater number of guyline points than their 3 season Hubba Hubba tent. Yes - the Mongar Naturehike tent does look like the MSR Access & Hubba tents. The MSR Access 2 is lighter though at 1.8Kg V 2.1Kg for Naturehike. I can’t comment about materials used and quality of the Naturehike tents - my MSRs have lasted me well whilst knowing their limitations! 😉
@MiriamKennedy the Nature Hikes are okay but you get what you pay for. They're an entry level tent for somebody looking to see if the like wild camping. They'd do the job. Being made redundant in March so looking to do lots more camping, so like you, my next tent will be the Durston X-Mid 2. Your videos are inspiring and its definitely given me the kick in the backside that I needed to get more hiking into my camping.
Great stuff (not about the redundancy - unless you’re happy about it!) No doubt you’ll enjoy your X-Mid 2, I’m certainly enjoying mine 😊 The very best of luck with your camping and hiking plans - it’s such a great thing to be able to do so I hope you get to do lots!! 😎
@MiriamKennedy after 35 years with same company, I'll look forward to the break. Will take nine months out to relax and recharge. I'll miss the job, the patients especially but I think I'll enjoy the break 😁
@JTRavers69 Sounds great!! 😊
Absolutely stunning scenery Miriam thank you for sharing your fantastic adventure and very well done for completing the peaks and loop
Thanks very much John for your message 😊 A lovely memory to have of a great hike!!
As ever, Miriam, wonderfull footage. Beautiful!
Awww thank you Lena ❤️ Fond memories of this trip!!
brilliant tour how you managed to get up them hills on only 3 gears molls gap is hard wow.
Cheers Anthony!! A great little booster to realise that me and the bike could do it 😊 A fun milestone along my recovery journey!!
fabulous Miriam , you are a brave adventurous soul. Respect from another adventurous soul ..
Thanks very much Gary! The drive for adventure gives me a nice lift when it arrives 😉 Very glad when I’m able to act on it!! Cheers for your message!
After what you've been through climbing Muckanaght is a breeze. Congratulations..... and DARTS!!!
Thanks very much Kevin - great sense of achievement 😁 And DARTS all the way 🤩😎
What a stunning morning and those mountains are just beautiful. I've never been 🤦♂️ lovely to see you out on the hills. I don't know how you managed to track down the sun and in the west of Ireland as well. That's an achievement in itself 😁🍀
The weather gods played ball with me Jason 😉 Thankfully it unfolded as forecasted! A pretty spectacular mountain range…those living in the west are very lucky. Great sense of achievement to finish the route safely 🤩 Thanks for watching it and your message 😎
Wow - That looks so beautiful and mind resetting peacefulness which is what the mountains give me. - is that loop on any Koomot gpx ? Fantastic films you create for thousands to appreciate and put on their lists.
Thank you! I don't use Komoot but I just had a look and I don't think the route is listed in their app. I use OutdoorActive and I've uploaded the route to that app from which you can download a gpx file of the route. Outdoor Active link: out.ac/IWOhw4 Hope that helps!
Another fabulous video Miriam. Great to see you are well. I have done the Glencorbet but the weather was awful and not suitable for a camp. I must try Muckanaght, the views looked amazing.
Thanks very much Olive! I know it seems totally unrealistic to get weather like this, sometimes it works though 🤭 Great you’re familiar with the route - really nice to do and a great sense of achievement that I was able for it. I’m back to work now tomorrow so it’s back to normal for me now 😉 Thanks again!

Another very nice video, really nice footage of this fantastic weather ! It's definitely time to grab those last moments of summer. Well done, I wish you well !
@@takumarify Thank you! Delighted I grabbed these moments of good weather like you said 😊 Such a nice thing to be able to do and to still have some decent daylight to enjoy the outdoors!
Absolutely stunning Miriam, fair play to ya! Incredible footage and the weather was perfect for it. There's no place like Ireland when you get weather like that. Thanks for keeping us entertained and showing us more of these fantastic mountains. Hope you're keeping well. John
Thanks very much John for watching this one and your lovely message! 🙏 You’re so right - the weather makes all the difference in making our mountains so attractive…the mist and rain has its place but a bit of sunshine certainly helps get me out more!! 😉
