That bridge in Kilmacthomas has stunning views, the river flowing through Kilmac on one side, and horses grazing in green fields on the other side, brings peace to one's soul.
While it sucks that some disused railways are being turned into greenways when the towns on it could probably do with a rail connection (looking at you Youghal and New Ross), it at least they preserve the alignment and some of the railway heritage. It is cool that this line is also now a heritage railway though because that means the railway isn’t completely gone, even if it’s smaller than the original line.
Hi Joshua - I agree that a railway connection adds so much to an area and such a shame when it’s lost. To cycle this route was a very pleasant experience but does little for those that would prefer a working railway for sure.
I generally don´t watch your films in order and I eek them out so that I can savour them for longer times. They truly are a pure joy to watch and the music always beautiful and suits the atmosphere. Thank you Miriam. I have just changed my bike to a Danish brand Velorbis, it is an easy to get onto bike and it´s design harks back to the old shop delivery bikes, nice high up handlebars, low seating and small front wheel larger back wheel easy to get on to single speed with coaster rear brake so about as simple as it gets. I am sixty at the end of the year and the curse of the Donald's has finely hit me and forced me into early retirement, Osteo and Rheumatoid arthritis of the spine and shoulders, it is hard to walk these days though I do make myself and so this type of bike with the wonderful brooks saddle which my friends are always surprised to hear is very very comfortable is ideal as it makes me peddle at a regular cadence and when the hill is too steep I simple walk with the support of the handlebars up the hill. I am fortunate to live within minutes of the Danube Cycle Path which runs from the Black Sea to Germany. I am about a quarter of the way on the Vienna to Tulln section which is beautiful. gentle gradients and well tarmacked it is a joy to ride and good exercise. I count myself lucky that for me this is late onset so now I am blessed with the memories of the various pilgrim trails in Europe once walked and mountains climbed in my years in Canada and other wild places from desert to prairie and even a brief stint with the British Antarctic Survey at the South Pole walked and cycled, those memories are forever. Nature is our true home, our North Star, our calm that weathers any storm . Watching your videos is a balm, thank you. Ian.
Thank you Ian for your lovely message! I've just checked out your new bike brand so I can see the appeal...wonderful that you've found a bike that is working for you right now and that you're still able to access your true home despite the discomfort. It sounds like you've had so many great adventures and memories to date and it seems you're still thankfully creating memories with what you're able to do. I can only imagine what it must be like to not do as you once did but you sound pretty accepting of how things are for you at the moment with the Donald's curse. You describe your relationship with nature very beautifully, I still struggle to do so. My nights of solitude bring me so much contentment - I'm not sure that's the right word...its a sense that I'm doing what I'm meant to be doing, which is not very much, just being outside and immersed in the power of nature. Its fab to hear you get some enjoyment from watching these videos, I continuously struggle with the whys of it all...as you can imagine - having a camera and capturing some shots is very different from being there with no camera. I've spent so many nights out in the wild with no camera in recent months that I now feel excited to bring the camera along for a trip this weekend. I can now look forward to the fun that comes with playing with a camera and editing but I also know well the price I pay for bringing the camera. I will still most likely enjoy the trip immensely, but my head will be active rather than fully immersed in all that is around me. There is a payoff with creating a video but also a price and I'm still finding my way with it. So your message was timely as I plan to head to Donegal this weekend with the camera and do a big hike and try capture some views and experiences along the way...I've chosen the music already which I tend to do as I find it nice feeling a certain mood going into the trip with the camera! lets see what its like...no doubt I'll go through my familiar cycle afterwards of...what am I doing 😉 Take good care and enjoy that Brooks saddle!
@@MiriamKennedy thank you as well for your lovely message MIriam. You are a gifted story teller, it shows in your videos, your words interlaced with your camera and drone work unfold a rich tapestry of experiences but I also understand the need to spend more time just one on one with nature so I think you are striking a lovely balance between the story teller you and the seeker of beauty you. Not doing very much means you are doing everything in the moment to reach the connection between nature outside and the nature within you. It is only in those moments where the true understanding of the life we came here to live is really like compared to the life we have had to construct in the world society creates. to strike a balance is the way to go, very much like creating the odd video but saving the majority just for you, I think that's the best balance. The more you save for yourself and no one else means that you create far more in terms of depth for the times you do want to share. People get it wrong with social media, they feel they have to constantly create and become obsessed with figures and views. The way you create does not pander to that and is all the better for it. I can´t speak for everyone else that watches but the spaces between gives me the chance to look forward even more to the next episode and a chance to look once again at older episodes. I think you strike the perfect balance, you are creating for yourself rather than for the audience which is why your videos are so authentic and deep. thank you once again Miriam. All the best from Austria!
Hi Miriam! Oh what a super film, and a lovely adventure. Such a nice dinner! I saw that oil go trickling in, and wondered what you were going to rustle up..! Egg for breakfast too! And masses of gorgeous landscape shots. I love how you show that a trip like this can be so simple and easy, and so enjoyable. Best wishes!
Hi Susanna! Lovely to hear from you 😊 Thanks for your lovely comment - I had a great little trip, I was really looking forward to a night by the coast and it didn’t disappoint 😉 Just magical to have the place to myself after a lovely cycle. I do like my food as I know you do too!! I only had to cycle about 10 mins from home to catch the bus to Waterford - adds another leg to the adventure as opposed to driving! Thanks again and I hope you’re keeping well 👍
Hi Hanora - nice to hear from another Irish woman 😉 A lovely little trip - nice and easy cycle and a really enjoyable camp! Thanks a million for your message 😎
Hi Brompton Family Time - thanks for your lovely message and thank you for watching the video! Yes, lovely to see the daffodils in bloom. Peace to all of you! 😊
I just love this about TH-cam, I’ve been thinking of doing these greenways with the family for some years, whatever it is you can usually find someone on here has gone to the trouble of showing you what it’s like and that it’s worth it, and this time that’s you. Maybe this year I’ll get to this. 🙏 thank you for this lovely little guide along the Waterford greenway.
You’re very welcome Vistarekker and great that you checked it out! It’s a very easy cycle and the kids would love it no doubt. Like you, I had hoped for quite a while to get around to doing it and eventually the time came! Nice to cycle along the flat and the highlight was of course being able to stay in a tent for the night 🤗 Hope all is well with you!!
@@MiriamKennedy all well thank you, tinkering with an insta 360 camera now, it would be a fun camera on a trip like this. About the shout out you gave us the other day I showed it to my daughter who gets quite involved in the videos. She was highly impressed 🙏 👍👍😄. Thanks again for the support. Robin.
Hi Robin! Your new camera sounds like it'll be fun 😊 Great your daughter was impressed with the shoutout too - she's a big star in the videos! 🌟 The community aspect of TH-cam has been lovely for me too - a side effect that I never realised was there...likeminded wanderers that sometimes dabble in the world of a camera and editing and creating something!! Happy wandering and dreaming!! 😎
@@MiriamKennedy the age old art of story telling reviewed and renewed by technology, maybe reduced by technology in some ways but very much enhanced by it also in how it can connect huge numbers even if their interests are a relative minority. One thing I will say in this arena where it concerns people who enjoy the outdoors- comments are almost invariably positive. I think that is a great reflection on the positivity the outdoors bring those who enjoy it.
That’s so true Robin!! Such a positive and rewarding aspect of the engagement that happens - very rare that I’ve come across anything that has felt negative in any way. Long may that continue!!
Awww - thank you John!! That's so lovely to hear 🙂 Its a huge bonus for me to post a video and then connect with others like you that know that special feeling of adventure and being alive too!! Wahoooo....
I have come to your channel a tad late, and subscribe a couple of weeks ago. I caught one where you were saying about not being good at the commentary. I disagree. I have just spent the last few minutes in a place of total calm! the combination of the picture quality, the scenery, the music and your vocal tone has been so relaxing. A full package of serenity and peacefulness. Thank you so much for that. ☺️
Thanks vey much Phil - thats very kind of you! I still do find it strange speaking to a plastic box and speaking to no one when doing a little video. It helped when I started to think of it as 'speaking to friends', which is what it really is like! Lovely to hear that you enjoyed this video and thanks for your lovely comments - I really, really appreciate it! 😊
That’s great to hear Justin - I hope you enjoy it! You can’t see the profile of the viaducts while you’re on the cycle path, so be sure to lean over to see them 😉 Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to you 🤞
Diolch David!! We’re both in beautiful countries in fairness 😊 Great to hear you enjoyed this little trip to Waterford 👍 Thanks very much for your message!! Have a great evening!!
A wonderful film, thoroughly enjoyed it. It made me quite homesick, back in the 1950s, we always took our summer holidays at Clonea. I haven't been back for a few years now and your film has made quite sure I'll be heading for the Greenway. Thank you again for a lovey video.
Aww that’s lovely to hear Peter. I hope you do get over to the Greenway to check it out and enjoy it’s easy pathway. Clonea beach really is lovely so you must have had some great summer holidays while there. Really nice to hear the video stirred some positive memories for you and I hope you do get to visit again soon 🤞 Thanks so much for your lovely message!!
Thanks Jill - camping at the sea definitely gave me plenty of calmness, so great to spend the night listening to the water!! Look forward to hearing all about your Portugal travels soon 👍
Thanks Eugene - great to hear you enjoyed the video! A nice and easy little trip - hopefully I’ll get out on a bike trip again in the near future! Thanks for your message 😊
A great video Miriam, as I said just catching up on your earlier videos. I did the Greenway last Wednesday and it was beautiful. We stopped in the Coach House in Kilmac for lunch. Well done 👏
Thanks very much Liam! Great that you did the Greenway and that you had lunch in the Coach House too 🤩 A nice safe, little stretch for a cycle!! Thanks again!!
Hi Miriam Greetings from Cork, the real capital. Did the Rhine cycle in May/June about 17 days solo from Basel to Amsterdam. My wife joined me in Amsterdam. Having watched your videos it has made me appreciate what we have at home. Was planning Roscoff but changed my mind and now my goal is for my 70th birthday in March is to do as many Greenways as I can and other routes. You are truly inspirational and we do have a beautiful country. 🚴😀
@@liamahern8527 awwww wow Liam! What incredible adventures you’ve been on. Mine are so tiny in comparison but I love the novelty of heading away for one or two nights to a new place with some pleasing weather and landscape of course 😉 Much easier to plan for a short trip when some decent weather allows! You’ve got a lovely plan afoot with your birthday coming up 🤩 I’m just off the phone lamenting the fact that I’m returning to work in 4 weeks time and won’t have all the freedom that I’ve become accustomed to 🤭 Enjoy your freedom to do all the trips you can when you please around our lovely country!!
Cheers Dave! A really easy little adventure topped off with a night in the tent by the sea - lovely sounds to be with! Thanks for watching - peace to you too.
Hello Miriam, Another interesting adventure on the Brompton... living near the coast myself I am always interested in seeing other coastlines... Enjoyable viewing, thank you. Take care. Paul,,
Hi Paul - I’ve enjoyed quite a few trips with the Brompton along various sections of coastline in Ireland - hopefully they’ll appeal to you! You’re very lucky living near the coast - I’m about a 30minute drive away from the coast so not too bad 😉
Hi Miriam. I met you today (18th March)on the way up Lug. Lovely to talk to you.keep up the videos. They are a great inspiration to anyone taking up wild camping. Best of luck. Andrew
Cheers Andrew! Great to meet you today, hope your return up Lug went ok, that was some distance you covered today on your hike!! Best of luck with your upcoming challenge - you’ll fly it based on those miles and climbs you covered today!! Great chatting with you and thanks for your message!! 😊👍
Hi Trail Wilder - yes it certainly was a very peaceful little trip, especially when camping at the beach - solitude, sea and sky filled me right up 😊 Thanks for watching and your message!!
what a nice adventure and no more words needed when you can have a scone with butter and yam! Heaven on earth! Also the landscape and your nice tent-view for the night. thx for sharing.
Thanks Martina!! A great little treat to have the scone with butter and jam, I never come across a coffee shop when climbing mountains 😉 Great to have a night out in the tent again by the sea. Nice to hear from you 👍
Hi Alastair - thanks for your message! It’s not the most stunning landscape in Ireland but certainly a nice, safe and pleasant cycle route to take. Adding in an overnight with a tent definitely makes it a lovely trip 🤗 I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
Oh my god you're my hero. I live in dungarvan and am an avid cyclist. I'm getting older and time for me to slow down and get a brompton. I'm currently on the look out for one and I wanna do exactly what you're doing. I actually think I saw you that day on the greenway.
Hi Liam! I hope you go for it and that you come across a Brompton 🤞 I admired them from a distance for a few years before I took the plunge and I’ve never regretted it 🤗 I bought mine for commuting to work and to be able to throw in the back of the car and hide it away in a wardrobe when I was living in an apartment. I still find it such a fun bike to cycle after about 16 years of owning one. That’s hilarious that you think you spotted me that day on the Greenway - you live in such a great part of the country, lucky you!! Lovely to hear from you - cheers for your message!! 😊
hi meriam i am very happy to see your chanel in youtube i wech add my comment in arabic langage انت انسانة رائعة و وهادئة فيدوهاتك ممتعة جدا عند مشاهدتها نحس بالسفر معك في رحلتك شكرا
Thanks Robert!! Yep, it’s a great little easy route. So nice to camp at the coast then also - nice memories of this little trip. Thanks so much for your message 🤗👍
Hi George - the highlight for sure, I was dying to get to the coast to set up the tent and cast aside the camera, I’d filmed the day before in the Twelve Bens so it was a bit much for me to film two trips on the trot, lesson learnt! So nice to just relax that evening in the tent and the next morning before heading off again on my gentle cycle. A lovely camp by the sea 😊 Thanks for watching!! I appreciate it 👍
@@MiriamKennedy great stuff was that your Derryclare Video, that was cool too! I'm looking forward to my first wild ish camp this spring , serious trepidation but watching yourself and Gerry McV etc has really got it into me. I've walked all over irelands hills and it seems a natural progression to spend night time out there too! Anyway keep up the great work Miriam and look forward to next adventure you share 😀
I hope you enjoy it George!! Yep that was the Derryclare trip. Great to try it out to see if it’s for you…nothing to lose, except some money on gear of course 🤦♀️ I’m hoping to get out this coming weekend to try a new lightweight tent that I’ve had for a while that I bought for multi-day hikes…I’m so used to the space of a two person tent, I’m not sure how much my love will extend to the cramped space of a 1 person tent…we’ll see! Happy planning for your camping adventure…you might just love it!! 😎
@@MiriamKennedy Your little bike doesn't seem to have a beep or a warning bell, because at 4:39 you shouted.... huuuuuu to warn other cyclists, but that was good🙂👍
@@MiriamKennedy I understand your hands are not enough. I suggest whistling in your mouth, I have numerous whistles, but sending it there is awkward because our post office is unreliable. The pigeon can't stand it ... I doubt it....???
Cheers Dave! A great little adventure - the highlight was always going to be pitching up for the night and thankfully the weather and the location worked a treat! 😊 Loved being beside the sea again…thanks for your message!
Lovely! Good memories of camping near Dungarvan. I love seeing old railways being opened up for walking or cycling instead of going to ruin. As an engineer I love seeing old viaducts, buildings, infrastructure of any kind and imagine how the engineers of the day built them without all our modern gizmos! You certainly made the most of the weather. Thanks for sharing these wee adventures.
Thanking you! As an engineer myself - I appreciate these structures too 👍 Yep I went a little crazy for the good weather that weekend!! It was the Friday that I was in Derryclare after a round trip from Dublin and then caught a bus at 8:20am to Waterford the next morning - how lucky was I!! What a way to spend a weekend - I had arranged to take Monday off work and stayed in my PJs all day 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
@@MiriamKennedy wow! I’m sure you were wrecked after that! Definitely a well deserved duvet day after that weekend. I only managed a quick run up Slemish with the doggo but enjoyed a bit of sun for the first time in a while. Your filming skills are really good considering how few vids you have put up in comparison to others. The love and enjoyment of what you are doing shine through. Good on ya!
Absolutely loved that Miriam. You have a lovely calmness to your style of filming. Makes me want to came down my manic videos 🤣 really enjoyed it. Them more I see you on your bike, the more I want to head bike camping. This summer for you. Great choice of music and a very respectful touch for the Ukraine. 🙌✌️👏👏👏 Hats off Miriam. Super job.
Ah thanks Martin - that's a lovely compliment! I'm finding the bike a great little change of an adventure, you can't drag it up a remote mountain but there are so many other opportunities for different adventures it seems. Such a lovely thing to spot the stone - wonderful to see an expression like that randomly placed on a wall to remind us all of the horror and compassion around us. Thanks for watching and your encouragement - greatly appreciated!! 🤩
Simply a video made with love and it can be seen in every scene. The shot where only the legs from the tent are visible is to me the best b-roll shot in this video. Great video!
Thanks very much Ervin! I liked that shot too 😎 I'd love to be better able to capture the lovely sense I get from staying in a tent...its such a precious feeling! Thanks for your lovely comment, its so lovely to read!
Class Miriam, that bike is a handy little yoke when you can fit it on a bus! You got gorgeous weather for the trip, camping on the shore looked idyllic and I see the Peanut Rayu made the menu making my mouth water again!🤤 Drone footage was awesome as usual, showed those viaducts in all their glory, you really have got a great way with it! Thanks again for sharing one of your adventures! ATB, Gary.
Thanks so much Gary! I was dying for a night in the tent and jumped at the chance to finally do this trip. You’re right, the bike is really handy to fold and hide away in tight places - I’m enjoying the novelty of playing with public transport too for these little adventures 👍 Great to get the Peanut Rayu back out again as two of the shops that I used to buy it from have stopped supplying it but I found another one eventually 😊 The drone definitely helped show off the viaducts - great to have it with me as you don’t see their shape from the cycle path at all. Hope all is well with you and that you’re continuing to have fun with your drone!!
Hi that was grate to see a bit of the green way circle I love to do it my self sometime this and the RTE program trake and trails is grate to see the different bike trails. Ps the next time you use the stove is to get a flat slab or stone and put the gas stove on in a well and the tall grass will keep the wind down. Brendan IRL
Thanks for watching Brian - nice to be on a track and not to have to deal with any cars! Without the drone you can’t actually see the form of those viaducts, only that I had already seen some footage of them I could easily have missed them! Beautiful structures and lovely to see the life entwined in them as you said 😊
Hey Miriam. This video popped up in my feed today 😀 It's great to see you out and about with the Brompton. Fab video work as always.... The scenery reminded me of childhood family holidays around the Waterford coast. Lovely to see that some things haven't changed... Catch up with you soon x
Hey Mary - I did think of you on this trip!! It’s a lovely cycle, I could see you and troops enjoying it 😊 A very nice coast to have spent some family holidays for sure! I was away on another cycle at the weekend and took a photo that I meant to send you - I’ll send it now, you’ll have a giggle 😎
My partner and I cycled this Greenway a few years back during the 'Beast from the East' storm - it wasn't fun but we do remember it ;-/ The trail itself we thought was at its' best near Dungarvan where there are beautiful views of the coast :-)
Oh Lord!!! Cycling through the beast from the east - that definitely must have been memorable 😲 I agree with you both - for me the second half of the greenway had more varied and interesting landscape. My first views of the coast on such a sunny day was such a thrill!! Nice to hear from you 👍
Thanks John! Not sure I could have managed the return leg on my little wheels and carrying my gear 😂 Definitely a nice spin with the nice weather 😊 Good to hear from you, hope you’re having a decent Paddy’s Day ☘️👍
Well worth the 2 hour bus ride for the beach camp you got and those glorious views over the sea. Loved the old viaduct and to get dry, sunny weather in Ireland in March must be a first, it always rains when we go lol. Well dissevered and well as needed dinner after all that cycling and what a stunning sunrise you were blessed with! - PEACE, cheers Alan
Cheers Alan! It certainly was a great little weather window I exploited - sunshine and no wind, like you said a nice little gift for March 😉 A fab little trip, one I was thinking of doing for quite a while so it was nice to eventually see what it was like. A great little beach camp and that sunrise was worth any effort involved 😎 Thanks again Alan!!
Ah cheers Colin! Very handy to be able to cycle about 10 mins from home to catch the bus to Waterford, it made it very easy! Not as dramatic scenery as our mountains - but a camp next to the sea is a tonic for sure 😉
@@frozenmist-w4k go for it!! I’m hanging up my camera now for a while - after a bumper weekend of two trips filming, I’m craving some time alone on camps with no camera. It can be such fun but I now need some trips to just be by myself to fill myself up again! 😊
Hi Stephen - that’s great to hear! A really easy little cycle, not the most stunning landscape in our lovely country but very nice all the same 😊 I hope you enjoy it if you go for it 🤞 Thanks for watching and your message!!
Oh lovely Chris! Such a nice little trip to do 😊 Thanks for letting me know, I hope you enjoy it! I’m doing ok Chris - plenty of tough days but lots of rest is definitely makes it more manageable…cheers!!
I really love your videos Miriam. They are so relaxing and enjoyable. Its great to hear your commentary as well. It adds more depth to it. See you soon hopefully. 😊
Oh great Declan - a lovely way to spend a day, its flat and an easy cycle in fairness! There is a nice friendly atmosphere of fellow cyclists greeting each other along the way too. Hope you enjoy it! 😎
Hi Richard! The drone is a great addition, I don’t think the footage of this trip would have been much good without it 😉 The viaducts really stood out with the drone, I wouldn’t have seen their form without the drone, it’s a great little camera to have (although a bit nerve wracking!!) This was a really easy cycle so climbs at all - the highlight for me as usual was being in the tent!! 🤗
Hi Emily - thanks for watching the video! Great that you’ll be doing this same cycle this Summer, I hope you enjoy it!! It’s a lovely route. Thanks so much for your message 😊
Found your channel through Tom Heaney's contacts. Been binge watching your adventures. You are quite the artist with photography and especially your drone footage. You live in a very beautiful country from the mountains to the seashore. Keep up the great work!
Hi Denis, thanks for your lovely message! Hope the binge watching has continued to go well for you, that’s really nice to hear 😂 Tom is a great TH-cam friend that I’ve met along the way and we’re regularly in touch with each other making each other jealous with images from camping trips! The drone is really powerful in showing off the lovely landscape and coupled with some nice music it can make it look like I know what I’m doing - really though I’m just winging it!! Thanks again Denis - I agree Ireland is a very beautiful place and it’s great to be able to try show it off a bit when I can 😉
@@MiriamKennedy Thank you for your reply. A few questions about your beautiful Brompton. It appears to be the sought after Black Edition. Is it the H6L with 6 gears? I see you did a nice video sowing how you pack your bike. Would you consider doing a general review of the bike and what attracted you to buying one? They are really such a unique and innovative machine.
Hi Denis - mine isn't the Black Edition, the colour of the frame possibly threw you off, the colour of mine is Raw Lacquer but the post etc is silver. I use S handlebars and mine has 3 gears...totally sufficient for me. I'm not trying to get anywhere too quickly and I love the simplicity of it 😉 I've no plans to do a video covering a review of the bike - I'm a big fan but I'm not a very experienced cyclist so I wouldn't be imparting any great insight to help inform peoples decisions. Why did I buy one? I got my first Brompton about 15 years ago. I occasionally spotted one in the city I live and I always thought they were a cool looking bike - purely aesthetics. At the time I lived in an apartment and a fold up bike really appealed to me to be able to fold it and store it away in a cupboard/closet. I also liked the ability to drive part of my commute to work with my bike in the car and then park the car in free parking locations and take the bike the rest of the way. I lusted after a Brompton for about 2 years before I eventually took the leap and went for it! I had never cycled one, I knew no one who had one but I thought they were a fab looking bike. I trained as an engineer and the fold of the Brompton always impressed me...those little details. I had to order my bike and go through the process of trying to decide what handlebars etc - great if you can try different types out to see what type build you want. I'm very happy with mine, I've no regrets. My first Brompton was stolen from my car at the start of Covid - I was just terribly unlucky, it was in the car and couldn't be seen but an opportunistic thief struck gold! All that I changed on this new one was the colour - however, I preferred my sage green (not on the latest colour palette when I was buying again). Hopefully that helps!! If there are any other things that you'd like to ask me about it, go ahead! The Brompton is my only bike...it does everything for me!! I still love it 😎
@@MiriamKennedy Once again thank you very much for taking the time to write and answer my questions. So sorry to hear you got one of your bikes stolen from your car. In one of your videos I remember you folded your bike up and stowed it in the weeds in hopes that no one would find it. I worried that you would come back to no bike in the weeds. Happily that was not the case. I really appreciate you getting back to me and hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Happy travels!
Miriam, all very chilled and relaxed😊 The Greenway looks fantastic, loved that the railway track is still there for a least part of the way🚂 Cool to see cycle etiquette with the bells and horns 🚲 A lovely camp spot which I am sure was super relaxing with the sound of the waves. A very cool adventure👍
Thanks Gerry - yep, the sound of the waves was very nice, I felt like I was floating for the night (in a good way!) The Brompton is a great workhorse for carrying gear, much easier than carrying it on your back! Really nice to cycle that distance with no cars around and it was pretty flat for the entire journey, not like our mountain climbs! A great little adventure is right 👍 Thanks for your message 😊
Thank you! Well done for completing the return trip - great you had good weather too!! It definitely makes it a nice ride with some lovely weather 😊 Thanks very much for watching and your message 👍
Thanks very much Alex 😊 Yes, it’s a really nice route, very gentle and easy and some nice scenery along the way to keep you entertained! Thanks so much for watching and your message, I really appreciate it ☘️
Brilliant Miriam. I was down that way last year with my family and it is just stunning. Your drone shots were class as always and your pitch for the night looked perfect. It was really nice to see some nice weather in Ireland 😄
Cheers Jason! That nice weather was a pleasure to be out in!! I was like a caged animal escaping for the night 🤩 So nice to pitch next to the sea - I felt like I was floating all night listening to the water, so soothing. Sounds like a lovely trip you had with your family - some really nice spots along the way and a friendly atmosphere along the greenway too with fellow cyclists. Thanks for watching and your message!! Hope you’re doing well 😊
They really are awesome these greenways Miriam. Good to see you out on one. I imagine you got into a rhythm like you do in the mountains and life just flew by as you enjoyed the free wheeling, viaducts, countryside and tunnels. I was digging the flight over the viaducts. It gave us some appreciation of what's been preserved - the legacy. Well, a perfect pitch beside the sea there. I must get to the coast soon. It looked glorious and well mellow. Great trip. All the best over there. Mark
Thanks Mark - it was lovely to spend the night by the sea again! Yes the greenways are a great cycling resource - so pleasant not to have to deal with cars and traffic and just roll along on pretty flat terrain. The bike is a great workhorse also to carry the gear - much easier than carrying it on your back!! The viaducts were great to see with the drone, definitely lifted my spirit to see them through the drones eye. Hope your injuries are healing well, mine has been a bit aggravated again and I’ve finally also adopted hot water in addition to ice on my post exercise routine (like you had suggested!) A slow aul road to get out the other side of it! Take care over there! 👍
Beautiful video, thank you for making this. I cycled this greenway shortly after it opened and loved it. I’m tempted to put it on my 2022 to do list after all we couldn’t do this past two years. Few hills to visit also 😅😅😅
Hi Michael - thanks for your lovely message! Yes, it’s definitely a nice feature that we don’t have to deal with hills on this cycle, just sit back and take in the views 😊 If you head back in 2022, I hope it’s a good one for you!! I’ve done the Greenway from Westport to Achill but hopefully a few more trips on the Wild Atlantic Way for me in 2022 🤞 Thanks again!!
Hi Miriam, fab video once again. Really well put together with a great variety of different shots carefully selected as usual..Great ones of the viaduct and sunrise time-lapse. Audio very clear on the bike too and overall video quality first class. ATB Tom
Ah cheers Tom! The camping was the highlight - so lovely to get a nice sunrise and to be able to listen to the sea from the tent. Heaven for me! The viaducts were lovely to see with the drone footage as you have no sense of them while cycling along the path. Such great beauty in their structure! Thanks for your lovely comment! Catch you soon 😊
Thanks very much Charlotte! It's a very easy route and great to be away from cars and amongst other cyclists for the length of the Greenway. I'm glad you enjoyed it - lovely to hear that so thanks for letting me know 😊
Another grand vid👏, obvs lot of thought gone into the production and choice of shots. Great route and the weather looked amazing. Very inspiring, thanks👍
Thanks Jimmy! The weather was fab - it was a trip I wanted to make for a while so I jumped at the chance when the weather looked so nice 😎 It’s definitely easier when the bike is carrying your gear 😉 Thanks for your lovely message!
It’s very flat Lynne! I’ve only 3 gears also - not a bother for this route, it’s very gentle. Thanks for watching and your message, really appreciate it! 😊
Cheers Stuart! When you're cycling along those viaducts you actually have no sense of the form they take, its only with the drone footage that you can see it! I had seen some other footage so I was hoping to use the drone when I got to those sections, I hadn't realised that I wouldn't be able to see it from the bridge though 🤔 I so enjoyed camping at the sea - a much needed pause and recharge! Thanks for your message!! 👍
Thanks Olive for coming along on the trip with me!! I really appreciate it and so lovely to hear that you enjoyed the video. Hope all is well with you! 😊
Brilliant video Miriam, looks like a great place to cycle and explore. I’d recently been told about this particular greenway so was really pleased to see this!
That’s great to hear Mark - it’s an impressive track to be able to avoid cars for that distance! Nice little trip made all the better with a night in the tent. Thanks for your message 👍
Another great video Miriam, I've loved watching it! Looking forward very much to returning to the Emerald Isle with 'Minnie the Mixte' in mid May...hopefully for a month! 🤞. It surprised me how difficult it often was finding a wild camping spot in Ireland though...and I sometimes ended up in very unconventional places!. Mind you I had a rigid policy of always trying to find a spot within a mile of a village, with a pub, for a few pints at night and somewhere to charge my phone! 😂. In fact I plonked the tent on a grass verge, on a lane outside Roscommon one night...only to find I was just 100m from a Garda policeman's house! 🙄🤣. Actually he was very understanding though (after a few white lies from me! 😀) and offered me a shower and brekkie at his place(I politely refused!). Enjoy your trips Miriam and may the wind always be at your back... 🙂G
Thanks Graeme!! Yes, finding a place to camp in these somewhat populated areas makes for an added adventure 😎 Great you met a friendly policeman who didn't make your trip any more difficult. Over the past 6 years or so of wild camping I've been moved on once. I was camping on a mountain with a very lightweight tent which wasn't able for the wind on the summit so I came to lower ground and camped in a woods which unfortunately was private property and I was spotted. They asked me to leave and there was no way they would change their mind...ooopppppssss! Always a little adventure (though a little stressful) finding a spot on lower ground in a populated area but hopefully I wont gather too many stories of being moved on! 😊 Happy planning for your trip!!
@@MiriamKennedy ha, ha! 😂. Yeh when the Garda policeman asked me what I was doing I said 'wild camping...but I'm not sure what the law was in Ireland!' 😚🙄(white lie N0.1...I knew DAMN well it was illegal! 😂). Then I said 'police in England turn a blind eye, if you clear up after you and aren't noisy!' (white lie N0. 2...but they are usually OK, it's down to the individual copper really! 🤷♂️). He nodded and left me there for 2 nights as the weather was awful, but called in each morning to see if I needed anything! 😀. Then I put my tent up on a roundabout, next to a motorway at Gort...and behind a bush, whilst on the way to Doolin and the cliffs of Moher! 😂. Wild camping was never dull in Ireland.. 🙂 🇮🇪
@@MiriamKennedy 🤣yeh! About a mile from the centre of Gort! VERY large grassy roundabout, that went down into a hollow, where there were some bushes! 😀. Couldn't find anywhere else, it was getting late... and I was tired! Put my tent up, then rode down into Gort, found a pub and stayed in there for the evening! 😂 😋. I often did that in Ireland, without problem 🤷♂️. Just took my phone, wallet and bike...and left everything else! I wouldn't do the same in Blackpool that's for sure! Lol!
Looks like spring in Ireland! Still time for one more winter camping trip here in Canada before the bicycle trips start. Your video has helped me start my first trip plan, funny you wild camp and you’d think I would too, being in Canada, but nope. Cheers from the new world :)
Oohhhhh - good luck with your trip plan, I hope you enjoy it! Fingers crossed we get some more flavours of Spring in the coming weeks, we’ve had lots of rain here in Ireland over the last week…it’s definitely turning for us though. I wasn’t too sure if you meant that you were planning to camp for your upcoming trip, hope you are - it’s always the highlight for me!! 🤗
I want more of this kind of vlog. When I started seeing it, I didn't even think that it would be so good. When will you post the next vlog? Tell me soon. I can't wait for the next vlog🤩
Hah! I haven’t a clue 🤗 I have plans for a trip with the camera for an upcoming hiking and camping trip though - no bike, but plenty of great landscape hopefully 😎
No problem at all William - my pot is the Primus Trek Kettle and the lid of the pot can be used as a frying pan (the handles on the pot and lid fold away). I also use an MSR Pocket Rocket stove. Hope that helps!
Wow! Fab video, absolutely loved it 😍 The drone really came into its own with those viaduct shots 👌 You packed a serious amount of gear on to that bike, you should get Brompton to make you an ambassador 😊
Ah thanks Niall - the drone footage definitely helped spice it up a bit, I think it would of been a bit boring without it 🙃 Great little trip and the highlight of course was the camp by the sea - bliss! Carrying the gear on the Brompton is far easier than on your back I can assure you 😊
Thanks Tyler - I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I use two official Brompton bags, the rear bag is the Brompton racksack and the front bag is the Brompton Metro bag. These bags are expensive unfortunately - I owned the rear one initially for transporting things to work and when I toured I attached a very light bag to the front and a little while later I bought the front Brompton bag too. This setup works for me. The bags aren’t that big but when I attach my tent and sleeping bag to the outside of the rear bag with straps it works perfectly! It’s annoying that official Brompton gear is so expensive but I decided to go this method with bags in the end. Hope that helps!
Such a lovely part of Ireland Miriam along an easy gradient, dedicated cycle route. Ballinacourty Beach looked an ideal wild camp. I am investigating touring along such routes in Ireland to explore my Irish roots!!! Namely, Longford in County Longford (paternal), and Kildorrery in County Cork (maternal). Is it easy to travel by long distance buses with a Brompton? Do Bus Éireann have any particular rules for this?
Hi Michael - it's no problem to put a Brompton into the luggage compartments of the Bus Éireann buses and also the trains (Irish Rail) have a few bike spots that you can book in advance so you can take any bike on the train also. There is no extra cost for this either. It is so easy to travel with the Brompton! I haven't had any problems yet on trains or buses and there are no particular rules. For some private buses I just need to make sure its a large bus and that they'll have a decent luggage compartment to take it, i.e. that it's not a mini bus - most will accommodate the bike anyway as its like a heavy bag! Sounds like a great trip for you to be planning! I had to look at a map to see where Kildorrery is in Cork - you'll have a great time!! 🙂
Hi Tony - I'm a big Brompton fan so I'm very biased on that question!! I love mine...this is my second Brompton, my first I had for almost 10 years and it was stolen at the start of Covid from the boot of my car (it couldn't be seen). I was devastated, I hadn't realised how attached I could get to some metal! I had so much pleasure with it for years - after a few weeks when I realised I wasn't going to get it back, I bought another one. I don't own any other bike and this one meets my needs. I love the fact that I can put it in the boot of the car and park in free parking places and then take my bike everywhere. To be able to go on adventures such as this by using public transport is such a thrill too! So...I would happily recommend!! I hope you go for it 🤞 Thanks for watching the video!!
I'm sorry to hear your 10 year old Brompton was stolen. I bought a second hand Brompton a few months ago and I'm obsessed with it! I intend to do a few overnight trips this summer but I draw the line at camping! After 50-60km I want a proper bed! Great videos. Keep them coming.
@@chelladugg thanks Richella - great to hear about your new obsession!! 😂 They are so good aren’t they! Yes I was truly devastated when that happened - the loss I felt was so surprising to me, all the good memories and fun that I had with the bike, stolen from me! It was possibly the first mourning I ever experienced for a physical item 🤦♀️ I wish you every bit of luck on your trips!! Truth is the tent is the highlight for me - I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea though 🤷♀️
Hello Miriam! Looked a wonderful trip, with some great scenery. Hard to beat that view from your tent👍😁 What are the official rules on wild camping in Ireland? Is it all OK, or do you need to be a bit stealthy like most of England? Great video, ATB👍
Hi Des! It was a nice little trip alright - nice to do something different and also get to camp at the coast 😊 Official rules on wild camping in Ireland - hmmmmm, my response here is from various different sources so I'm not too sure if I have it exactly correct! How I see it is that we have a number of National Parks and there are different rules in each as far as areas that are prohibited for camping i.e. in Wicklow you cannot camp in the Glendalough area and there are rules about being a distance from an entrance - I tend to go to summits and as far as I'm aware I'm not breaking any rules. When it comes to private land - the general rule of seeking permission is always suggested but again I don't feel I ever or rarely fall into this category. Where I camped on this trip was very close to a pathway so in fairness it probably did break rules in camping so close to a pathway but I took the risk that I was pitching late and moving on early enough and one single person did walk by my tent the next morning before I set off. While looking for a place to pitch I was tempted by a spot which was beyond a boundary wall and definitely was in someones land - proper rules would be to seek permission as I'm sure it is in England also. I think there is a tolerance if people are respectful, leaving no trace and not travelling in a big group. Not sure if thats fully answering your question and someone can correct me if they read this!
@@MiriamKennedy Thanks for the detailed response, Miriam👍 It's a bit of a minefield over here too. Allowed in a few places, tolerated in others. Only Scotland seem to have the right attitude to it I reckon! 😁
@@DesGreene yeah - I must admit though that I don’t feel limited in any way - we’ve plenty of land to wild camp in, I’ll only get to experience a tiny fraction in my lifetime quite likely! I don’t have a death wish 😂, they’re words of a very satisfied customer of wild camping in Ireland ☘️😎
That bridge in Kilmacthomas has stunning views, the river flowing through Kilmac on one side, and horses grazing in green fields on the other side, brings peace to one's soul.
Absolutely - nature definitely helps give us those moments. A lovely spot for sure! 😊
Watching your wonderfull Videos makes me so happy 🥰
Awww thank you! That's such a lovely thing to hear 😊 Delighted you enjoyed this little video, thanks for your message 👍
Thanks very much Ian 😊

I have just spent the last few minutes in a place of total calm!
the combination of the picture quality, the scenery, the music and your vocal tone has been so relaxing. A full package of serenity and peacefulness.
Thank you so much for that.

Thanks vey much Phil - thats very kind of you! I still do find it strange speaking to a plastic box and speaking to no one when doing a little video. Lovely to hear that you enjoyed this video and thanks for your lovely comments - I really, really appreciate it! 😊
I'll be making the same trip next month. Super excited
That’s great to hear Justin - I hope you enjoy it! You can’t see the profile of the viaducts while you’re on the cycle path, so be sure to lean over to see them 😉 Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to you 🤞

Cheers Dave! A great little adventure - the highlight was always going to be pitching up for the night and thankfully the weather and the location worked a treat! 😊 Loved being beside the sea again…thanks for your message!
Nice video and excellent choice of music 😊🎼
Thanks very much David! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the video and music, very kind if you!! It was a lovely little trip away 😊
Your uploads are so good, the Irish tourist board should be paying you .
Thanks Edd 😊 Delighted you’re enjoying them!!
Good on ya!
@@tullycottage367 that was no slouch of a day from you! Thanks a million 😊
I love your little travelogues, a girl after my own heart. The scenery, is always beautiful, but more so you! Keep them coming. Martin, Cumbria
Cheers Martin! Glad you enjoyed this little trip 🤗
Hi Miriam , what a lovely video again 😁 Nice relaxing music !!
Cheers Mark! It was a fab little adventure alright, I loved it 😊 Thanks for watching and your message, I appreciate it 👍☘️
Absolutely loved that Miriam.
Hi thanks for the video very enjoyable
Hi John - thanks for your message, lovely to hear that you enjoyed the video!! 😊
Brendan IRL
Cheers Brendan - thanks for the advice! Glad you enjoyed seeing a bit of the Greenway - it’s a great resource for getting out and about on the bike 👍
This is so great. What a beautiful place to explore. I liked seeing life growing out of the stonework of that viaduct. Thanks again, Miriam.
Thanks for watching Brian - nice to be on a track and not to have to deal with any cars! Without the drone you can’t actually see the form of those viaducts, only that I had already seen some footage of them I could easily have missed them! Beautiful structures and lovely to see the life entwined in them as you said 😊
Great content and well shot! Always a pleasure when one of your videos pops up!
Thanks very much Pablo! That's really kind of you to say 🙂 A nice and easy trip - lovely to camp near the sea again....hope all is well with you!
A great video 👍 just loving your relaxing videos
Cheers Craig 😎 Hope you’re having a good time with your Bromptons in sunny Australia these days! Thanks for watching the video and your message 👍
@@MiriamKennedy loving our Bromptons 👍 just waiting for the weather to cool so we can head out camping again
@@craiglouw4057 sounds great 😊
My partner and I cycled this Greenway a few years back during the 'Beast from the East' storm - it wasn't fun but we do remember it ;-/ The trail itself we thought was at its' best near Dungarvan where there are beautiful views of the coast :-)
Oh Lord!!! Cycling through the beast from the east - that definitely must have been memorable 😲 I agree with you both - for me the second half of the greenway had more varied and interesting landscape. My first views of the coast on such a sunny day was such a thrill!! Nice to hear from you 👍
Great simple video Miriam, did this route a couple of years ago from Dungarven to Waterford and back on a hot summer day. 👍
What a truly delightful little adventure. Weather was glorious and the drone footage super duper cool . Beautiful.❤️ ATVB Colin
Ah cheers Colin! Very handy to be able to cycle about 10 mins from home to catch the bus to Waterford, it made it very easy! Not as dramatic scenery as our mountains - but a camp next to the sea is a tonic for sure 😉
@@MiriamKennedy very true , I’m well overdue a coastal adventure , might just go and not bother with the filming 😁👍🏻
@@frozenmist-w4k go for it!! I’m hanging up my camera now for a while - after a bumper weekend of two trips filming, I’m craving some time alone on camps with no camera. It can be such fun but I now need some trips to just be by myself to fill myself up again! 😊
Great video 👍🏻
Definitely thinking of a ripe to Ireland to do that trail 🤗
Hi Stephen - that’s great to hear! A really easy little cycle, not the most stunning landscape in our lovely country but very nice all the same 😊 I hope you enjoy it if you go for it 🤞 Thanks for watching and your message!!
I’m gonna do this on my Brompton next week. Hope you are keeping well Miriam.
Oh lovely Chris! Such a nice little trip to do 😊 Thanks for letting me know, I hope you enjoy it! I’m doing ok Chris - plenty of tough days but lots of rest is definitely makes it more manageable…cheers!!

Such a chilled video, love it well done. 👍👍
Thanks very much Li - really glad you enjoyed it!! 😀
Wow, that drone really help with the video, once again hats off, wonderful to watch. Miriam Best wishes Richard.
Such a lovely video! I look forward to doing this ride when I'm there this summer
Hi Emily - thanks for watching the video! Great that you’ll be doing this same cycle this Summer, I hope you enjoy it!! It’s a lovely route. Thanks so much for your message 😊
A super overnighter with the Brompton. Getting very posh...."refurbishing" the roads 🤣. I need to get my a*se in gear! 👍👍
I’d say it’s a term Waterford Council often use 🤦♀️ When I was editing I had a good laugh at myself…thanks for watching! Get that arse in gear!! 😊

Great video. Did this trail last weekend from Dungarvan to Waterford and back 103km total. The weather was amazing

Catch you soon 😊
what a wonderful video...I really appreciate all the work you did to make such a great illustration a wonderful trip. Cheers.

Thanks Jimmy! The weather was fab - it was a trip I wanted to make for a while so I jumped at the chance when the weather looked so nice 😎 It’s definitely easier when the bike is carrying your gear 😉 Thanks for your lovely message!
A great film. This route looks pretty flat, which would suit me. I’m not very good at puffing up hills with my 3-speed Brompton! 😉
It’s very flat Lynne! I’ve only 3 gears also - not a bother for this route, it’s very gentle. Thanks for watching and your message, really appreciate it! 😊
What a great trip you had.Beautiful landscabes.Great video. Enjoyed it Very Much. 🙂
Thank you Soren! It was a great little trip - always nice to spend a cosy night in the tent by the water as you well know! 😊
Fantastic video Miriam, the cycle in and camp spot looked brilliant, drone footage of the viaducts was spectacular 👏

A roundabout 😲
@@MiriamKennedy Would you be so kind to tell me what cooking gear you are using on your bike rides ?🙏
No problem at all William - my pot is the Primus Trek Kettle and the lid of the pot can be used as a frying pan (the handles on the pot and lid fold away). I also use an MSR Pocket Rocket stove. Hope that helps!
@@MiriamKennedy cheers 🙏
Carrying the gear on the Brompton is far easier than on your back I can assure you 😊
Pleasant and inspiring video :)
What bags do you use for your setup?
this is the life 😎
Cheers Jerric x - certainly a nice way to be spending time for sure 😎 Thanks for your message!!
Great video Miriam! Interesting you used a Brompton, been thinking of getting one, would you recommend??
