Miriam, the atmospherics and contrasts on your trip were beautiful - the cloud touching the tops of the Bens, the heavenly crepuscular rays beautifully illuminating certain parts of the landscape, the light reflecting on Lough Inagh, the time-lapse of cloud and colour moving across the sky, the amazingly bright light on the mountainside when it appeared . Loved the shot directly above your tent, your sizzling sausages, your choice of biscuits and that shot circling around you as you stood at the summit. Looked like an amazing trip and you gotta love those rugged rocky hills👍👍😊
Thanks Gerry! Oh those rocky hills are easy to love - amazing new terrain to explore. They command great respect - they are tough and unforgiving in their presence and the demands they make of you as you know! I contemplated doing the whole traverse - possibly over a 2 night camp. I’d watched Purple Peak Adventures traverse that they did 10 years ago and the reality of the challenge was pretty clear and I eventually decided to just do a section this time. I think I would find it hard to push myself to do the whole traverse on my own and would talk myself out of it. I don’t do these trips to push myself unnecessarily and the entire traverse although no doubt a great experience to complete would demand so much effort. Great to try something new and have some different experiences though so maybe I’ll do it another time! Thanks for watching the video and noticing all that you did!! 😉

Another stonking video, Miriam ! That drone footage is so good. Gerry beat me to it with the crepescular rays comment. Fabulous when that happens, and to capture it is even better. I read that there is a climbing club (maybe in Galway? )that has an annual one-day traverse of the whole range, which by the look of your video would be a wee bit beyond me, to say the least. I have looked across to these mountains from atop one or two of the Bens, probably Derryclare or Ben Corr at the east side , looking across lovely Lough Inagh, and they looked marvellous. Your video certainly confirms that impression. R.L.Praeger called his one-day traverse of these mountains " ...a grand day in the hills" or something similar. Holy Moley, we will never see their like again :) Thanks so much for your uploads. A tonic for homesickness.
Cheers Jim! Another fabulous trip - I got some lucky breaks with weather that allowed me to capture a few things. When I first made it to high ground there was very little visibility so I felt pretty lucky to be able to actually see the landscape around me at times. I did find this one tough - definitely outside my comfort zone a few times with some awkward scrambling due to me taking bad lines. I'm not a seasoned hiker at all as I'm only at it a few years so there is plenty that would be well beyond me! Yeah that annual event is run by the Mountaineering Club in UCG or NUIG if that's how they are known these days - there are a couple of videos available on TH-cam, its called the Maumturks Challenge I think. Definitely a big challenge to do the whole traverse in one day, I think they start at 4:30am. I considered doing it with 2 nights camping but I was glad I just decided to just do the section in the end 😉 Yes - I saw reference to the 'grand day in the hills' comment somewhere - holy god! Purple Peak Adventures have a great video of them doing the entire traverse with one overnight and it looked hellish - I'm nowhere near their level so that's why I thought maybe to try do it with 2 nights. Don't know if I'd be bothered now - too much like hard work rather than pleasure for me I think to do it that way.
They are very impressive mountains Mark! Ah a fantastic little adventure Colin - a remarkable mountain range, I was both humbled by their destructive power and captivated by their beauty. A tough aul traverse - a few scary moments which weren’t captured on camera of me scrambling a lot more than I had anticipated…one particular scramble back up a hill where I could easily have lost it if my mind had gone down a particular track, thankfully I found a way up without it being too traumatic! Besides that - me and the mountains worked together and got along well! Nature is so bloody powerful and reminds me how vulnerable being a human being can be!! I’m not a thrill seeker - I’m more into relaxed trips but every now and again I do enjoy a trip outside my comfort zone and this was one of them 😉 Great to witness the show of the clouds, sun and mountains and capture a little of it for my own memory…thanks for watching it! Oh I loved your version of Immunity - very nice!! Glad you liked the music, that’s good to hear 🤗 I need something rather than banter to accompany the views and hold some interest - music has an important role in my little show it seems!!
@@MiriamKennedy I personally think it’s important to get out of our comfort zones otherwise it can all be a bit mundane and too normal if you catch my drift . No doubt it was a tough enough traverse it certainly looked it . But worth every pint of sweat and blood just to pitch and become one with the mountains . Inspiring stuff for sure . Ps thanks for the subscription 😀

@@MiriamKennedy 😁🤣😂 you should take a walk on the dark side sometime 👌🏻😁 I’ve been asked by a few to do a vlogg on my journey with Paganism and Witchcraft , so there’s a possible project in the mix for Samhain 😁
Beautiful mountains up there. Very 'Foresty Forest' like drone footage. I would camp up there anytime, looks a little hard to find a tent spot though and hammocks would be out of the question :D
You’re right - very beautiful mountains alright! Definitely a bit hard to find a spot as the ground is so rough but I came across a spot and was so exhausted that I pitched while I could. I rested for a little while and then headed out again a little further for a ramble with just my camera gear. Great to have had the experience and I agree a hammock might be a bit redundant up there 😊
For the route I took, it took about 3 hours maybe to get to the top I think? It was tough and I was knackered when I got to the top and I didn’t walk for too long before pitching the tent. I lay down for about 20 mins and had a bite to eat and then felt ready to walk some more. Maybe you don’t need to have such a challenging route - there’s so much to do over here, but see what you think! I wouldn’t bother doing it either if you didn’t have good visibility - I found it quite tough terrain but at least I could see where I was going. There’s a big possibility you could go and not have any decent visibility when on top. Probably best to have a few options throughout the country maybe that you can suss the weather out for your planned dates! 🤔
@@MiriamKennedy I will send you my phone number via email before I come. Ideally I want to be in a place where you see no ones for days. 4 days camp so I need to be prepared. Hi Johnny - it is only in the last 2 videos that I've published that I started using non copyright music. For all my other videos (including this one) I have a 'Copyright Claim' against them. I was never bothered by that as I was only ever making the videos for myself and never had any notions of trying to make money from youtube (and still don't). Then more recently I decided to take the plunge and I'm paying for a subscription to 'Epidemic Sound' to source non copyright music. It takes a bit of effort to source the kind of music I might like on this site but I'm happy enough with it. I know there are free sources aswell but I didn't put much effort into looking at it to be honest. If after a few months I wasn't too happy with epidemic sound I might look at other options, but for now it meeds my needs. You can get a free trial of epidemic sound for a month so its worth checking it out for the free trial even. - you can publish youtube content using music from Epidemic Sound during your free trial period. Before that I was using Spotify recommendations to try find music I might like. Hope that helps and best of luck with the channel!!

@@frozenmist-w4k I’m a big fan of challenging the comfort zone yet on solo hikes I’m acutely aware of my perceived limits! I accidentally pressed the unsubscribe button and immediately thought of your recent video 🤦♀️ Being human is so disappointing at times 🤩
@@MiriamKennedy 😁🤣😂 you should take a walk on the dark side sometime 👌🏻😁 I’ve been asked by a few to do a vlogg on my journey with Paganism and Witchcraft , so there’s a possible project in the mix for Samhain 😁
@@frozenmist-w4k sounds like a plan is afoot! I look forward to seeing what you produce - loved your ‘Pagans have more fun’ video 👏

Thank you - yes these mountains are very beautiful!
How long it take to climb up there. It's gonna be tough will all my stuff.
A little island would be ideal. This video I wanna make really special but I am gonna need battery back up being there for 4 days which I have so a lot of thought needs going into this one.
Miriam where do you get your music from. I just started recording my camping trips brand new you tuber and would like to ask this question.
@@MiriamKennedy Thank you kindly for the in depth reply. Most grateful. Subbed. 😇
@Johnny Green Shirt you've a new supporter in Ireland too 😊
@@MiriamKennedy I will be getting over to Ireland after the new year. I like cold camping so January when it's cold and snowing I will be there. It would be nice to meet up for you to advise where to go. I was hoping to be in Spain tomorrow but Covid rules makes it tough. I will be in Portugal over xmas 4 days camping. I been traveling since I was a nipper just back from Malta and Latvia. My dad was an Irish gypsy from Cork born and raised in a Caravan, well until I was six so it's in my blood to travel.
@@johnnygreenshirt6215 oh very good! Im happy to chat anytime about places you might like to go! Check out some other channels aswell (my latest video lists some recommendations of Irish TH-camrs in the description which might give you some other ideas in addition to places that I’ve been). But feel free to get in touch and we can have a natter about where you might go!
So beautiful Miriam ❤

Amazing landscape is right Sreter! I’m glad you found the video relaxing. It was a tough hike for me but I was in no rush so I just took my time and relished the views around me. Another great spot to visit! Thanks for watching 😊
