I had a '76 VW in silver just like that one! I sold it my sophmore year in college (1994) when the fuel injection started to go to a handy friend for $800. I miss that car....

Simple basic transportation. If I was starting out I would much rather drive an old bug than mortgage my life away on payments and insurance. Those are fantastic engines , transmissions are good too.

Now her next traditional “beetle mechanic” will want to rip off that new tangled fuel pump and will charge her for a mechanical fuel pump because “it’s not right for the car at all.” At this rate you’ll have her be so far backwards she’s ride a horse and buggy everywhere 😂

I don’t understand how people can flat out reject something as vital and revolutionary for the engine as fuel injection. This is like watching someone say “I prefer hand cranking my vehicle because it’s more reliable.” While technically true, you miss out on any new developments when you refuse to adopt something new because “it’s too much work” when in my opinion retuning or rejecting a carb every few months or every time it rains is WAY too much work compared to a proper EFI system.

If the seller was a VW guy, this is shameful. A bore scope may of helped diagnose the problem prior to strip down. Keep the videos going as they are enjoyable to watch. 💪🏼🇬🇧

I think there's more than one type of patina look. Your bus tells a story. The yellow flames on the passenger door, auto logo's on the tailgate, part yellow, and part turkis - that works for me and makes this bus a lot of fun to look at.

No one should pay more than $50 for a non running engine. Unless it has good bolt-on used parts on it.

Im using Easy Off on my single cab to get the original grey back. Its working great. Easy off on for 20 seconds, scrub with 0000 steel wool, then wash with a rag soaked in water.

You should do this where it is environmentally safe

Great video. Need to replace the clutch on my ‘68 beetle. Hope all goes well.

I inherited a 78 Super Beetle. Didn't really want it but I ended up with it. I ended up with it in 2012. Shoved it in the garage mainly because it didn't run very well. And after two years of off and on troubleshooting turned out to be the key cylinder. Then I shoved it into a container because I was traveling overseas and just now back to getting the dang thing running again. Fuel system is full of crap so will end up replacing every line and probably the tank. Mind you my stepfather paid big bucks to have this car restored back in 2011. The guy slapped a crap paint job on it and made it look good but didn't do a dang thing to make sure it ran right.

Doing the exact same job on a 63 standard.

Don't forget to change the carburator bypass solenoid as well, the one that blocks the air flow for idle once your turned the ignition off. ;-)

Hey Taylor, Mike from Mike Fn Garage claims that single cab is painted in a rare color 'Postal Yellow.' He says had to be special ordered, and not many around at all anymore.

Having never messed with a bus. I wonder if the little voltage drop domahicky that are in a lot of beetles would work? Dropping the 12v down to 6 specifically for the wipers ?
