I also have a 59 mine is a deluxe no semaphores ,I'm trying to figure out why if I close the passenger door it always locks ...so you can't open from outside...inside no problem..pull up...is that a safety or a malfunction? Maybe they were ahead of the anti theft curve for those damn American thieves?? Lol what do think

It may not be locking, could be that the latch on the handle is stuck/broken and the outer handle simply isn’t opening the door.
