    I agree with Rachel that it is loaded up with rodent crap and it turned over so well. Nice try but i would get out my torch and heat up the plugs and get them out , a little heat and some rust breaker. Good video and nice to see the shop is bearably cold.

    • @wickedwerks
      @wickedwerks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’m sure I could get the plugs out, but with how badly the aluminum is degraded around it, I’m not sure a plug would go back in.

    11:41 if I’m not mistaken, you've got your wires in the wrong position. Maybe? I can’t see, but I believe no. 4 wire is plugged into no. 1 position.
    You would have to take your cap off, there is a small mark on the lip of the dizzy showing no 1 position. Then clockwise 4-3-2.
    Also, no compression? Take the valve covers off see that all valves are opening and closing on rotation, then gently tap on the valve head with a wooden block and mallet….gently..
    This will nock the crud off the seats and maybe give you compression.
    Also, you might want to shoot some say….20:1 oil and gas mix down the throat….like a cup, and rotate the engine. This will also improve the sealing of the rings, washing the crap off the valve seats and improving compression…..do it by hand though because it will probably hydrolock, and you will need to back up…..back and forth.
    Once it spins free….you should be able to use the starter.
    Just trying to help.
    Thank you for your video

    • @wickedwerks
      @wickedwerks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I cut a lot of footage from this video. At one point, I put the plug wires on 90 degrees “out of order” so I could attempt to get a good range of timing. The vacuum canister was hitting the fuel pump before I could get the timing where I wanted it.
      All the valves open and close. Sometimes, they just don’t run.

  • @losebjughashvili8465
    @losebjughashvili8465 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    11:16 that’s no. 2 Chief. Also, does a 36hp engine have a different distributor drive than other VW engines? I think the dizzy, only goes in one way.
    Because the drive slot is offset.
    So…you shouldn’t have any problems swapping the distributor, save for timing. (Slight adjustments left or right)
    Correct?

    • @wickedwerks
      @wickedwerks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that’s correct. It is no. 2 that I’m pointing at when the exhaust valve is opening and closing. Which is how I know I’m on TDC of Cyl. 1 because both valves are closed.

    About the standard 1200 cc engines: Why is it, that you always refer to them as 36 HP? In Germany, the standard 1200 cc bug engines are rated as 34 HP only (the very old ones as low as 30 HP).

    • @wickedwerks
      @wickedwerks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure. Just the nomenclature I’ve been around. It’s funny you mention the earliest ones being as low as 30ho because we call the early ones “25hp” engines 😂 it’s odd, I tend to hear people use the hp rating to identify a motor until the 1300. I.e. “that’s a 25hp/36hp/40hp” and that it becomes 1300/1500/1600 and so on.

    • @gerolds.1551
      @gerolds.1551 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just noeted, that even in the wikipedia, the German version states 30 /34 hp whereas the english version states 34 and 36 in the same article but with no source given. "The original 18.6 kW (24.9 hp) Beetle was designed for a top speed around 100 km/h (62 mph), which would be a viable cruising speed on the Reichsautobahn system. As Autobahn speeds increased in the postwar years, its output was boosted to 27 kW (36 hp), then 30 kW (40 hp), the configuration that lasted through 1966 and became the "classic" Volkswagen motor. "
      versus
      "During this post-war period, the Beetle had superior performance in its category with a top speed of 115 km/h (71 mph) and 0-100 kilometres per hour (0-62 mph) in 27.5 seconds with fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres (42 mpg‑imp; 35 mpg‑US) for the standard 25 kW (34 hp) engine. "
      I know only about the 1200cc 34 hp engine and wonder, where 36 hp comes from?
