Clogged Milk Duct while Breastfeeding
A clogged (or plugged) duct is very painful and if untreated, it can lead to an infection (Mastitis). In this video I will walk you through the steps to clear the clog.
In the video, I mentioned a massager for clogs. it is also helpful to increase a letdown. great for pumping moms too.

Can i breastfeed throughout my pregnancy?..im 6 weeks pregnant with a 11 month old baby
@@MeharaBasheer-z3k yes! Always discuss it with your doctor but most doctors who are educated with up to date information, will say it’s fine. If they don’t recommend it, I would find a 2nd opinion. Moms who should not breastfeed are moms who may have an extremely high risk pregnancies. When you are extremely high risk, you sound not be allowed to have intercourse. Having intercourse can start labor but generally your body needs to be ready to deliver. Congratulations! ❤️ My kids were 21 months apart and I loved it. They were best friends 🥰
I love my momcozy s12 pros!
@@Allysa-n6z That’s great! I really caution moms about wearable pumps. They are awesome for moms who have a slight forceful letdown/ oversupply. Moms with a large oversupply can make their condition worse and moms with a very normal supply who pump a lot, can see their supply fade away after a few weeks because they just don’t offer the necessary breast stimulation. 🥰
@marycahillclc I try to use a wall pump most of the time. Only use the momcozy now when I can't sit and use my wall pump. What do you recommend between the spectra s2 plus and the Medela Pump in style max flow?
@@Allysa-n6z Those are both great pumps. Some moms prefer one over the other but that’s just an individual preference. I just stress lots and lots of breast massage and constant pumping.
I was exclusively breastfeeding my baby till now. Now he's 6 months old and I have to return to work. He's screaming at the top of his voice and crying a lot when I tried to bottle feed with pumped breast milk. Please help me fix this 😢
@@yhtawsa i’m so sorry mommy. This can be very difficult. Some of the suggestions in this video are hopefully helping but it takes time. Be sure to have your Caregiver offer milk to baby before they are showing any hunger cues. Your caregiver can try to get baby a little sips with a cup. Baby can be given an empty bottle or a bottle with just a drop of water in it to play with . This can help get baby comfortable. When baby doesn’t like the bottle, they will take more milk from you when you are with them. You’ll know the baby still getting enough if baby is always having six or more wet diapers every 24 hours. ❤️
Hello Mary, thank you very much for the information. I am currently pumping and due to incorrect latching. I was wondering if I have to reheat the bottle, when baby won’t drink the milk right away? If not, will cold milk make her tummy sick? Currently it is winter over here and inside temperature is around 23 Celsius. I’d appreciate if you could give me an answer
@@MySensoria if baby is a newborn, preemie or has health issues I would be more cautious about how long you leave your milk out after pumping but 2 to 3 hours is generally very safe. Your milk has anti-bacterial properties in it. If you don’t think that you’ll use that milk in that time, it is best to put it in the refrigerator. if you want to heat the milk up, you can set it in a cup of warm tapwater for just a minute or two don’t want the water to be scalding hot just comfortably warm. You can definitely give baby a cold bottle, it won’t hurt baby and most babies don’t mind. Sometimes baby will make a funny face or pull back from the bottle for a few seconds but then they will take it again.❤️
@ Got it, you have been very helpful. Thank you again for guiding us into breasting journey 😇
Helpful video, I have a five month old and he hasn’t had issues with latching in the past but I recently introduced solids and my left nipple has become extremely sore. I’m going to try saline rinses and I’ve been using nipple creams. He latches fine on my right. It hurts when trying to show him how to properly latch on my left. Wish my nipple pain would go away so that I could try a different feeding position. I’m mainly feeding him on my right breast.
@@Ray-jn6nu it will be important to figure out why this is happening. As baby gets older, we tend to stop needing to prop baby up on a pillow to nurse but an older baby starts to slip down to the nipple because they don’t have their body up and tight to you. Prop baby up on pillows. Be sure that baby’s body is tight up against you. Baby’s head should be tilted back, their chin should be pressed into the breast and nose not really touching your breast. If baby is getting distracted and looking all around, that can also cause baby to slip out to the nipple. Wearing a toy that’s clipped to your shirt or necklace can give baby something to look at and feel so that they don’t want to turn their head away. ❤️
@ thank you so much for getting back to me and for the great insight & advice 🩵

@@angeldaly8181 So sorry mommy 😢. It can be hard to heal while breastfeeding. Breastmilk is healing to a wound but a breastfeeding safe nipple cream can be soothing and speed up healing. If you haven’t seen this video, it might help with latch to avoid the pain and damage. Also, find a local lactation counselor if possible ❤️ How Do I Nurse My Baby Without Pain? th-cam.com/video/X9MmYwf1Vu0/w-d-xo.html
Hello Mary, thank you for the video. My breast is saggy and my nipples are flat. My baby is now 7!weeks old and I nurse her with cross cradle hold. But sometimes she won’t open her mouth wide enough and I can hear click-click sound and her airy swallow. So her tummy gets gassy and she cries for hours in the evening. How do I get her better at latching? Or do I have to wait until she gets big? She was born 3,7kg and now about 4,6kg. And I wonder if she is underfed. Poop is mustard yellow atm. Please help us 😢
@@MySensoria is baby exclusively breast-fed or do you supplement with formula or previously pumped milk? When you say that your breasts are saggy, do you mean that they don’t feel like they’re full of milk anymore? If so, that is totally normal and actually the way it’s supposed to be. After a few weeks of breast-feeding your breasts should feel flat and empty like before you were even pregnant, but your body is still making plenty of breastmilk. You know the baby is getting enough milk if you always see six or more wet diapers every 24 hours. If baby is happy in the morning and early afternoon, but fussy at night, that is very normal. Babies will go through this fussy time in the evening and they will want to cluster feed. This is where baby wants to feed every hour or almost nonstop in the evening. During this fussy time, they often will pop off the breast and be upset many times. Baby is going through growth spurt when this happens. This doesn’t mean that baby needs or wants more milk or that you don’t have enough. It just means that baby is uncomfortable because they are growing so quickly. There’s nothing that you can do except for hold and comfort baby and let baby be at the breast as much as possible. These fussy times can last a few days to a week and then it usually gets a little better. It can start up again at anytime though. As far as weight gain, you know, baby is getting enough if they are having those wet diapers and growing well. Your baby’s weight looks great. Baby is in a slightly lower percentile than she was at birth, but this is normal. Her weight is still great! Babies retain a lot of fluid and are often higher in weight when they were born. In the first few days after birth, baby generally loses anywhere from 4 to 10% of their bodyweight when they are a breast-fed baby. If baby gets close to this 10% it is recommended to meet with a lactation counselor to be sure that baby won’t lose any more weight. After baby is one month old then we can start to compare babies weight in the future. If you are concerned aboutBaby’s weight, see your doctor right away.❤️
I think my milk supply is not enough for my baby. What should i do?
@@saku1720 Tell me more about your situation. How old is baby? Do you feed from the breast? Do you feed formula? Do you pump? What signs are showing you that your supply is low?
I was pumping evey 3 hours till now that my baby is 7 months old can i pump every 4 hours???? As he started semi solid food
@@Pam836 Are you an exclusive pumper or does baby feed from the breast too? How much milk are you pumping at each session and how much every 24 hours?
@ exclusively pumping every 3 hours I get 200ml at each pumping session ( total from both breast) And i pump 6 times in 24 hours
@ you are pumping almost twice as much as an exclusively breastfeeding baby needs so you can definitely cut down to every 4 hours. You must have lots of milk stored, correct? Baby’s from 1 month to 6 months old who are exclusively breastfed, take in about 24 ounce (720 ml) of breastmilk every 24 hours. After 6 months, some babies continue to take in that same amount and others will just naturally take in a little more every day. Probably around 100 extra ml a day. So baby will be getting plenty of fresh breastmilk. You probably not have to store extra anymore. Babies from one month to six months old only need breastmilk. Babies from 6 to 12 months should start to have small amounts of solids added every day, but breastmilk should still be babies main source of nutrients their body just cannot absorb nutrients from solid food yet. After one year of age , solids should be baby’s main source of nutrition, and solids should be a compliment to that. So your toddler, after one year can continue to have lots of breastmilk for as long as you would like to continue pumping. Just so you know, You sound like you have a condition called forceful let down/over supply. This often causes mom’s to not be able to feed from the breast unless they are able to get their condition under control. If you have this condition with one baby, you will have it with all of them. Is this your first baby? Did you know about this condition?
@ yes this is my first baby And no i have no idea about this condition And i don’t store any breastmilk Here in India we dont store breastmilk So I don’t have any milk in storage
@ That’s great! Mom’s get very stressed about storing milk and it’s not necessary for most moms Here’s my video on the condition forceful letdown/over supply. @@snorkle5041 hi mommy! Are you an exclusive pumper? If not, are you pumping to store or just an occasional bottle? When you pump, how much are you getting from the other breast? It is very normal for one side to produce less than the other. For some moms it’s not very noticeable but for others it is. The good news is that the good producer is making up for the slacker. It evens out in the end. You still want to nurse or pump that side if possible but if baby is having 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours, you know they are getting enough. ❤️

@@jalenarsenault8544 Baby having a small mouth can be a little bit of a struggle but having baby in a better position, can help. Baby should be tight to your body. Tummy to tummy with you and have their head back. Baby’s chin should be pressed into your breast and more not (or barely) touching. Some babies have a recessed chin (most often boys). This can make latch harder and painful. Baby could also have a tongue or lip tie but I would wait another week or two before checking that. Breastfeeding may be slightly uncomfortable but if it’s painful, something is wrong. You should see a local lactation counselor for help but I’ll link my video here on position. @ You are doing great! It’s a definite learning curve in the beginning.
Is it okay to spoon feed the baby because my Gynaecologist told me not to use bottle to feed as it would cause nipple confusion. He only latches when he needs comfort but wants to be spoon-fed when he is actually hungry. My son is 2 weeks old. Also, I pump just before he is about to wake up. I don’t store the milk as I want him to have it fresh. Sometimes, I store for the next feed at room temperature. Is it okay for me to store it at the room temperature for 2-4 hours?
@@mehwishsyed10 Yes, spoon feeding is totally fine. I’m a little confused about him only latching for comfort but wants to be spoon fed when hungry. Can you explain more about what signs he’s showing that he only wants to be spoon fed? Is it a certain time of day that he would rather be spoon fed? How many wet diapers is baby having every 24 hours? Fresh breastmilk is fine on the counter for 2 to 4 hours but I would be a little cautious for a newborn. During thirst first couple of months, I would refrigerate it if it may be more than 2 hours. There’s no need to heat the refrigerated milk. Most babies will take it cold. ❤️
@ Every time I try breastfeeding him, he cries uncontrollably as he wants milk to be poured into his mouth and does not want the hard work. I wanted to feed him off of the bottle as it gets easier than spoon-feeding him but the Gynaec told me not to. Once he is spoon-fed and is relaxed, he will reject being spoon-fed and he will then come to me to be breastfed and he sleeps on it. He has 6-8 wet diapers in 24 hours and sometimes 10 wet diapers. I don't know if these things make sense or not but I am a little worried that he would not breastfeed and I will have to resort to pumping the milk and spoon-feeding him or bottle-feeding him.
@ With him having that many diapers, it sounds like you have a forceful letdown/over supply. If the beginning of the feeding is too forceful, he may not like that beginning letdown. A forceful letdown/over supply is often present in the first few weeks but then gets better. If you have the “condition” of FL/OS, it will stay strong for several months and you will have it with every baby. How much milk are you pumping per pumping session and how much every 24 hours? I think that a FL/OS, is probably the cause but another possibility is that you’re not putting him to breast until he’s fussy. Starting at the breast when he’s first waking up or turning his head to one side, may make him less fussy because he’s wanting the milk right away. If this is the case, you can put heat on your breast for just a minute before nursing. This will speed up the letdown.
@ I pump 90ml-120ml per pumping session and I pump every 3-4 hours. Also, he does get fussy before I start feeding. Every time I try to follow the early wake-up cues and feed him, he doesn't latch. He would suckle for a bit and then fall asleep. Another reason might be because his nostrils are blocked. My husband and I took him to the paediatrician yesterday and he told us that this could also be the reason for him to not latch.
@@mehwishsyed10 are his nostrils blocked from a cold or did they not develop fully? A stuffy nose is often caused by a forceful letdown/over supply. Check out this video series and tell me if you think this could be a bit of the issue You’re pumping a great amount of. That would be enough for baby if you were an exclusive pumper so if you’re doing some feeding from the breast, you are making a bit over the needed amount. My one breast gives less milk when pumping like just a tbsp compared to other which can give more.also the side which pumps less milk baby doesn't like to latch much.Any solution. Also what's your take on Domperidone if prescribed.
@@smurfetteheidi2166 That is very normal. We all have one side that makes more than the other. For some moms it’s way more noticeable than for others. The other side makes up for the slacker. There are even moms with one side doesn’t produce at all. Even moms who have had a partial mastectomy can still fully breastfeed. Just like a mom with twins can feed 2 babies with those 2 breasts. As long as baby is having 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours, you know they’re getting enough. It’s good to still latch baby on the slacker side because it does help to tell your body that you need lots of milk. Theres no need to force baby to stay long (we don’t want baby upset or they may refuse breastfeeding all to). How old is baby? Is baby having plenty of wet diapers?

A LC can watch baby’s latch and do weighted feeds. Domperidone will usually help with supply but it’s important to be feeding as often as possible. @@marycahillclc Hello 👋,Thank you for your response 😊 She's a month old, l try everyday even though she cry whenever l give her my breast . The first few days my milk was just drops so that's when l introduced the formula and when l pump, l don't do it regularly, eg l just pump either morning or night ad its only once per day even if l try to pump for the second time it won't to get 1oz,and l have noticed if l squeeze my breast the milk comes out, and l feel like it needs her to suck the breast for it to come out.
@@natashasibanda1665 watch the video above about a nursing strike. This will give you the steps to get baby to the breast. You must offer the breast at every single feeding. At least once if not twice per feeding BUT stop as soon as baby gets fussy. If baby is really hungry, they may get fussier if the breast is offered at the beginning. It’s often better to offer the breast partway through the feeding and at the end. Don’t let yourself or baby get upset. Holding baby skin to skin helps baby to get used to the breast and it helps to increase your milk supply. Even feed baby her bottle while holding her next to your bare breast. You must pump at least as often as baby eats. If baby is getting formula at all, you must pump even more often. Say this phrase to yourself. “ if something goes into, something should come out of me”. At this point, it will definitely only be drops at each pumping. The way to increase your supply is by pumping on a regular basis and adding lots and lots and lots of breast massage at each pumping. In about 3 to 5 days, you will start to see a slight increase in pumping output. So maybe instead of no milk you might start to see drops or if you see a couple of drops you may start to see a couple of more drops. It will be a very small increase and about every 3 to 5 days with consistency, It will start to increase. If you are just waiting for your milk to increase, that will not happen. I would recommend finding a local lactation counselor to help but get started on the steps as soon as you can. It’s not easy, it’s a lot of work. Only you can decide if this is something that you want to do. you’re not at all a bad mom if this is overwhelming and you’re not wanting to get to fully breast-feeding. If you can give your breastmilk in a bottle, those benefits are amazing for baby. Even if it’s just an ounce or two a day. And even if you are only giving breastmilk in the first few weeks. The benefits stay with baby for the rest of their life. Do what you can to enjoy baby during this time. Baby loves you, no matter how or what you feed her. If you decide to work towards increasing your supply, let your loved ones around you know that you’re going to need encouragement. Let them know that you’ve decided to work on this, and now that you are understanding the steps to take, you need them to support you, if you become discouraged. Having that local lactation counselor on board will also help. You are doing an amazing job mommy!❤️

Baby latching at the breast stimulate supply because of their saliva but even more impactful is the movement of their mouth. A pump cannot do the same thing. How often are you pumping? If you had a supply at one time, you can increase it but at this age it will take a lot of work and you’ll need to be very consistent on times. If baby is just getting a few ounces of breastmilk, that’s still very beneficial for baby.❤️
Thank you for this video I have formula fed baby ( currently 6th week running ) due to his low birth weight , and suction capacity had to give formula. Also I had low milk supply but now I have worked on increasing the milk supply and it’s better than before, obvious morning the quantity being the highest than rest of the hours of the day. I would like to switch to BF. I do try to latch my baby but he suckles for 10 mins and sleeps, not fussy or cranky but he does not pee. Also, I am asked for on demand feed but he can go as long as 5-6 hrs. Need ur help in how should I ensure he is full
@@amritaneha Hi mommy! Let me be sure that I’m understanding. He is now latching but only for 10 minutes and falls asleep for many hours. He’s not peeing during that feed. After the newborn stage, babies start to not pee or poop during the feeding but should definitely be wet after a long nap. Is 6 weeks now? How many total wet diapers is he having every 24 hours? Are you able to wake him after feeding on one breast to latch on the 2nd side? You can strip him down to just his diaper, undo his diaper for just a moment or tickle his feet to wake him.
@ thank you for the prompt response I started BF only yesterday skipping formula, he once latched for 30 mins both sides and later only 10-15 mins one side I tried waking him up by tickling the ears and feet but he did not wake up and slept for nice 2-3 hours. So yesterday dint give formula since morning and he dint pee , so ended up giving formula in the evening And today he is just not taking direct BF but taking BM from bottle, not understanding how to get him to latch directly and skip formula
@@amritaneha Is there a lactation counselor near by that you can meet with? The first goal would be to get him to consistently latch at the breast then to slowly reduce formula. I wish that I could tell you exactly how to get baby to keep latching but I think that working directly with a lactation counselor in person would be best to insure baby is getting enough. When you do transition to the breast, it will be important to monitor babies diaper count. There should always be 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours.
Hi! My baby is 11 weeks and she has had slow weight gain since she was born. My pediatrician thinks it's low supply because I can't pump very much...I've been trying to get my supply up since the first week of her birth though and she's always had plenty of wet diapers. But her weight gain hasn't improved (she is gaining weight, but it's less than the pediatrician is wanting to see and shes below the tenth percentile). I just barely found this video and my baby has all these signs except for green poo! I don't have most of the mom symptoms however, just a couple. Also the signs such as clicking and gulping only happen when she nurses on the left. I watched the next video in this series about block feeding...my baby has a tendency to nurse for over an hour and when I try to have her start on the right she can't get satisfied. She will eat for 20-30 min and then start crying and pull away. Then she'll come back, suck a couple times and then cry again. But when I put her on the left she eats for a long time after having eaten on the right. When we've done weighted feeds, she eats less on the right. When I have pumped I have gotten significantly less from the right and it's always been that way. I've read that pumping isn't a good indicator of supply, but is it possible that I could have low supply on one side and FL/OS on the other? I've tried to increase my supply on the right and nothing has seemed to help. But I'm really worried about my baby's weight and hoping to exclusively breastfeed. 2 LC and the pediatrician didn't find any ties and LC consultants haven't noticed any poor latching besides clicking during let downs. I would love any help!
@@megansmith9774 You are definitely correct that the pumped amount isn’t a good indicator of supply. We all have one side that makes more than the other but most moms/babies don’t really notice. For others, it’s more noticeable. The good news is that it’s almost always, nothing to worry about. Your higher producing side makes up for the slacker side. Usually moms just need to accept that one breast makes less. It could be that baby just doesn’t like that side. Maybe the shape is different or it tastes different (I know that seems crazy but it happens), or milk comes out too fast or too slow. Maybe baby doesn’t like laying it that position. You can try a different hold to see if that helps. But again, it’s usually not a problem if baby is getting enough. You know that baby is getting enough if she always has 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours. Continue to nurse on both breasts at each feeding but don’t stress if baby doesn’t want to stay on that side very long. I would only block feed if you’re fairly sure that you have a forceful letdown/over supply. Most moms don’t see all of the signs. And some moms don’t respond well to a pump but still have some over supply. In the first 4 to 6 weeks, baby’s weight percentile can fluctuate a lot but after that time, you should be seeing constant weight percentile. There is nothing wrong with being under 10 percentile, as long as it doesn’t drop very much. One of my granddaughters was at 1 to 2 percentile for her first year yet she was very healthy. She was born a premie (3lbs was her lowest weight). Some babies, even at full term can be in a low percentile. We all have different body types. When baby is at a low percentile, we do want to monitor weight closely. You can purchase a baby scale (Walmart, Amazon or fb classifieds are good places to purchase an inexpensive one) or ask your doctor or lactation counselor if you can stop in weekly for weight checks. I don’t want you to go against your doctor but instead, discuss monitoring closely for a while. I’ll put a link here for you to look at the weight baby should be gaining per week. Right now, she should gain 5.5 ounces (4 ounces can sometimes be ok) per week. Let me know your feelings about what I’ve said ❤️ kellymom.com/bf/normal/weight-gain/
@marycahillclc thank you very much for your reply! I'm grateful for the help. Baby has always had more than six wet diapers every day. Usually 6-9 and when it's 6 they can be very heavy. We went in to weigh her at 2 months and she came in at 4220 grams, then again at 2m 16 days and she weighed 4490 grams. By my calculations that would be about 4.17 oz/week. The pediatrician has been concerned ever since she didn't regain her birth weight by 2 weeks. I'm happy to give more weight information if helpful. Since she's always had plenty of wet diapers I've been very confused about her slow weight gain. At around 6-8 weeks she had very infrequent dirty diapers. She's go 4-6 days without any and when she did have them they were huge and explosive. I mentioned this to a LC (along with slow weight gain info) and she thought it could have to do with a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. She had me do breast massage and since starting that baby's had a dirty diaper almost every day and they have been less explosive... Don't know if that's the reason or if it's not related. I've struggled a lot with her wanting to feed for such long sessions. She was a big cluster feeder early on and we would go more than 4 hours with only diaper changes between feedings. When she isn't cluster feeding though she wants to stay latched for over an hour (unless she falls asleep sooner). Sometimes I'll think she's just doing some non-nutritive sucking but then I'll wait a second and I'll hear her start gulping another let down. I don't think she has ever turned down an opportunity to nurse or pulled away on her own unless she falls asleep. When I mentioned these long sessions to the pediatrician or LCs early on, I was often told that after an hour baby's just want to suck and aren't eating anymore so just go ahead and unlatch her. I would do this often. Often I would burp her and then she would just look around and smile and seem content. But when we checked her weight at the Drs office a couple weeks ago and it was lower than hoped, I started letting her go longer to see if she would pull away at some point. Two days ago she would eat for about an hour and 20 min then fall asleep and wake up and eat again (3-4 hours between feeds). Until the evening when she clusterfed until she fell asleep at 2am. Yesterday she seemed to want to eat all day with very few very short naps and I was up till 2am again. Maybe she's going through a growth spurt right now. She has also been sick for the past week (stuffy nose, coughing, sneezing). I don't know if this means anything either but she also spat up a ton of milk last night. It seemed like vomit to me, but I'm not sure. She doesn't normally spit up a lot. Either way it was very upsetting to her. The main reason I'm wondering about FL/OS is because my letdowns on the left side seems to firehose her. She'll make clicking and huge gulping noises, and be eating frantically during let downs. Before 8 weeks she would make choking noises and pull away with milk pouring out of her mouth. She hasn't done this for a few weeks, I've thought that it seems like she's starting to learn how to manage it better. Still clicking though. She has recently started making gulping noises with letdowns on the right occasionally, but no clicking or choking. She's also struggled with a lot of gas that upsets her. I'm sorry that this is so much info. I've been trying for weeks to find solutions and I've been wondering if breastfeeding just hasn't been working for us. But I would love it if we can get to a good place where she's breastfeeding well and gaining weight and I can be at ease.

@@megansmith9774 I know this is stressful mommy 😞 but you’re doing a great job! I like lots of details so I appreciate all of your information. It helps. You aren’t pumping at all correct? I’m not there with you and I’m not your doctor or LC so you should keep in contact with them but I’ll just share my opinions and thoughts.😎 It’s very normal for many babies to go even over 2 weeks without pooping but it’s only ok if -baby doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable -baby is over 1 month old and baby is exclusively breastfed. Formula fed and newborns should poop every day. When a baby is skipping multiple days of pooping, they will probably continue to do this from time to time. At the end of several days without pooping it’s very normal to have a large explosive poop. If at the end of several days of not pooping, baby has firm hard poop then you would know baby has been constipated. So those big explosive poops sound very normal. Massaging breasts is usually a good thing. It helps to increase supply but when mom has an over supply, that can make it worse. It is sounding to me that you are correct that you’re having a FL/OS. This can happen in just one breast. Cluster feeding is very normal. It may last for a few days to a week. It usually goes away for a bit but can come back again often. It sounds like she’s starting back into it. You can offer the breast more in the early evening to maybe help her to not still be awake at 2am Normally is best to let baby be on the breast as long as possible but in the case of a FL/OS, it can make it worse. I would definitely offer the right side as often as she’ll take it. If she’s falling asleep on that left side, I would try to sneak her back to the right if possible. Her stuffy nose and phlegm may have caused her to spit up but if you’re concerned, please see her doctor to check things out. Having this condition is a challenge and it’s something that you’ll always need to be aware of and you may need to adjust things at times. I wish that I could tell you exactly how to do feedings but it’s something that you’ll have to keep changing when needed. I would try a bit of block feeding by offering the right side more often. You don’t need to focus on increasing that side but to decrease the large over supply. Most moms don’t need to worry about foremilk/hind milk but for moms with FL/OS, you do. If your supply is out of control, baby gets more fore-milk with less fat. Do you get very engorged? Clogged ducts? I think that your condition may not be extreme and can be adjusted. Your supply should start to regulate a bit after 12 weeks. (Moms without FL/OS see supply regulate at 6weeks). You can incorporate some formula for a short time. I would give it just once or twice a day, near the end of a feeding to shorten the feeding on the left side. I would use a slow flow nipple, and give just 1/2 ounce (15 ml) of the bottle, burp and play with baby then offer another 1/2 ounce. If she fusses right away, give it right back to her or offer the right breast. You know your baby best and will just need to see what works to make her happy. This should get your supply under control. You should see a weight percentile increase. It won’t be a lot but should be a little. It looks like baby has dropped from 6 percentile at 2 months then to 3.5 percentile at that 16 day later spot. It not necessary to see baby’s weight increase a lot but If she does, that’s great but keep in mind that her healthy weight may stay below 10 percentile. Can you weigh her once a week for a few weeks? I know that was a lot. Did that make sense? ❤️

My problem is sometimes my breast milk is very low, that you see the baby struggle to get something, sometimes it's too much that even when I'm away I'm socking wet, I have to carry two extra bras and tops. how can I maintain the quantity of my breast milk. I wouldn't have a problem with having too much as long as the baby feeds well, my problem is when the milk is low, cause I don't want to feed him on bottle when I'm home

Thank you so much for such an informative, objective and professional video! I feel so much more confident with my choice of combi feeding for my 1st child and what to be aware of along the way ❤
I am going to try the steps for stopping the bottle and trying again and after the bottle is finished. I have only been trying before the bottle and I would feel so defeated I wouldn’t try again until the next feeding. I have been exclusively pumping for a month and I believe my baby just doesn’t like the texture of my nipples since it’s different than the bottle nipple. Is there a way to incorporate a nipple shield and then wean baby from that or is that just even more confusing? I went to pumping exclusively because my nipples were so badly cracked along with bleb issues.
@@aieshaharmwood3884 That would be a good idea to offer later or at the end of feedings. You know your baby best. You can go to a nipple shield but I personally don’t think that it helps you to get closer to baby on the breast. How old is baby? How much milk are you able to pump at each pumping session and how much are you getting every 24 hours?
Thank you i will keep this in mind. He is 2 months and I am getting over 24 oz a day now. Morning 10-13 oz. 2nd session 5-7 oz. 3rd and 4th session 5-6 oz and sometimes I can pump a 5th time if everything goes well at bed time. Yesterday I pumped 33 oz with pumping only 4x. I pump both breasts when pumping
@@aieshaharmwood3884 It sounds like you may have a bit of a forceful letdown/ oversupply. After about 6 to 8 weeks, our supply usually drops to what baby takes out but if you have a forceful letdown/over supply, it won’t drop as much. For an exclusively pumping mom at this point she usually needs to pump 6 or more times to get the needed 24 ounces. Having a FL/OS sounds like a good thing but it’s actually difficult. Some babies don’t like the fast letdown. If you believe that you have this condition, you will have it with every baby. It can’t be fixed but it can be managed. Here is a 3 part video series that you might check out. The first video just helps you to determine if this is the case. Hello Mary, 3 weeks baby here. For the last 2 weeks baby’s been losing weight instead of gaining. We stopped formula completely. Baby breastfeeds and wets 6 to 7 diapers daily. We are worried if we should go back to formula to have him gaining weight again.
@@joguarhs Sometimes formula is needed but if baby is having 6 or more wet diapers every day, that shows that baby is getting enough but we do need to be sure that baby is gaining well. Has baby been weighed on e same scale most of these weight checks? If a scale is calibrated, it can really mess up weight tracking. It’s important at this early age to watch weight gain. Do you have access to a baby scale? Your doctor might let you come in every few days to check weight. Is baby staying awake for most feedings? Are you keeping baby on the 1st breast for as long as possible, then offering the 2nd breast at each feeding? It’s ok if baby doesn’t always want the 2nd side but it’s best to offer in the first months. Is there a LC that you can meet with locally? Do you pump milk at times? If so, why? @@khushboomirani3853 When you were giving some formula, were you pumping at every feed?if you were feeding formula after each feeding without pumping, then suddenly dropped to exclusively breastfeeding, your supply would need time to increase. If you don’t have a baby scale, you might ask your doctor if you can stop in 1 or 2 times a week for the nurse to weigh baby. This will help to monitor baby’s weight. Once things look good for a couple of weeks, that’s not usually necessary to do so often. Are you doing any extra pumping right now? If so, how much milk are you getting at each pumping? Try to get to baby before she seems hungry. Try to make it fun by drinking out of a cup then try giving baby a similar cup. You’ll of course need to hold the cup and give it slowly. You can give baby a bottle to play with and just a small amount of water. About 1 ounce. She may get curious and take a drink. @@maryamshaheen5118 How old is baby ? It can definitely look like a low supply issue at night when it’s really not. I’ll attach a couple of videos here. We do have slightly less milk in the evening but it’s slightly higher in fat. Baby will sometimes need to eat almost non stop in the evenings. The extra fat is great for growth and development and it helps baby to sleep a slightly longer stretch. Baby will often have very fussy times in the evenings. This will be difficult for a few days to a week, then better for a few days or a week. Each baby is different though. In the evening, baby can be over stimulated, overly tired or hurting from growing pains. It hurts to grow so quickly. This makes moms believe that supply is low. You can definitely give formula and baby will get really full and fall asleep. We are all sleepy after a huge meal. If you want to keep supply up, you’ll need to pump at around the same time as baby gets formula. It’s helpful to feed from both breast, then give a small amount of formula then back to the breast. @@zaynsmusics8334 You can know for sure that baby is getting enough, if you always see 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours. It’s ok to just feed off of one breast. That one breast can totally make up for the other side. Just like a mom can breastfeed twins from 2 breasts, you can usually completely feed from one. It’s best for supply if baby is on the breast as long and as often as possible. If you can (at each feeding) offer the breast at each feeding, then give a small amount of formula then return to the breast. If baby still seems hungry, give more formula. Let baby use you like a human pacifier when you can. If you decide to give full formula feedings, you should be consistent at feeding times. So if you give formula every day at around 11am and 5pm, stay at around those times. If you’d like to keep your supply up fully, you’ll need to add lots of breast massage and expressing to keep supply up. Hand expressing is excellent to keep supply up. @@nssylla Are you still nursing in the day or is night your only nursing? I’m so sorry mommy 😥 Night weaning can be very difficult. I personally would plan for a weekend to wean because it will be a few stressful nights. Wear a button up shirt or something that will be hard for baby to get to the boob. If you nurse before bed, say that there will be no more milks until morning. When baby cries for mom, give baby cuddles but no boob. Instead of saying “no” say “in the morning” or “later”. You can offer a drink of water and say “this will make it better”. If baby sleeps in a different room, you might have someone else get up in the night instead of you going into baby’s room, that “might” be easier but no matter what you go, it will be rough. 😥❤️
thank you❤
Do I have to wash the pump during the rest periods?
@@mahletanteneh2549 The CDC use to be ok with skipping washes if you were going to use it again soon (like with power pumping) and put it in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator but they now say to wash parts after every use. I generally am extra cautious but I personally would bag and refrigerated parts between to pumpings (if they were close together). If baby is a newborn, preemie or has health issues, I would not skip washings. ❤️
I had an emergency csection and my milk supply was low for the first 2 weeks and I had to resort to adding formula to feed baby.My baby is now 5 weeks is it possible to work on increasing my supply now or have I missed the window 😢 7:42
@@nomqhelenyathi9095 Usually it is possible but it’s a lot of work. Will baby latch at the breast?
Thank you for the video. I’m trying to exclusively pump with my inverted nipples but i don’t know how to measure to get the right flange size since there’s no visible nipple!
@@sanaramouz8719 You may just need to experiment to see what works best. Pumping should hurt. Hand expressing works great with flat nipples once you get the hang of it. If your nipples get a little erect when stimulated or cold, that can help to get a measurement. ❤️
