Hi Mary. Your calm confidence and knowledge are so helpful and comforting at this time. My baby is 4 weeks old, and we are working on our nursing together. Thank you 🙏🏼 🤍
I have elastic nipples. I’m having issues with my flanges and finding that happy medium where my milk will flow despite the whole nipple being sucked into the end of the flange no matter what size I use. Now I have a bleb and the worst hard clogged ducts to go with my cracked bleeding nipples 😭 the pain is unreal. Baby is in NICU so I’m exclusively pumping due to her being so premie and unable to feed by mouth yet.
I hope that she gets to come home soon ❤️🩹 Have to tried hand expressing? It works great for elastic nipples. Once you get the hang of it, it’s usually faster and more effective than a pump. I'm having the same issues for the same reason. My baby was in the nicu for 27 days but now it's figuring out how to feed him and pump out the excess milk supply from pumping
Thank you! I have personally used homeopathic medicines for years, but I didn’t know that a topical milk blister could be resolved like this. Thanks! 🥰
Yes I too have it from almost a month and I have severe burning sensation, as per my lactation consultants advice I am using lecithin supplement as well but no results, what to do mam??
Me too, my baby is 4-1/2 months and I’ve had a nipple bleb for 2 months. Saw a lactation specialist and still have a bleb. I nurse on demand. It’s only happening to my right breast.
@@marycahillclc it’s the same bleb. Sometimes it goes away a bit after my son nurses on it constantly. Then it pops back up again and it seems to be the same bleb. To me I don’t think it’s how he is latching since I don’t have any issues on my left breast. I do tend to nurse him more for longer periods on the right breast where the bleb is. Just last night I was dealing with the bleb. Then I eventually nursed him after putting a hot towel on my bleb and nursed him after and this morning it feels ok. I know the bleb will hurt again. I can still see it on the tip of my nipple.
@@conconmom For most moms, it’s usually just on one side. If you nurse one side, doing a cross cradle, then you turn him onto his other shoulder for cross cradle on the other side, he’ll be opposite for latch. If that’s what you’re doing, you can try a football hold or upright can really help with latch (koala hold) on that breast. If it’s on the breast that he prefers, it could be that he nurses more aggressively. Again, upright might really help if that’s the issue. Make sure that his lip is flanged out and not sucked in. ❤️
OUTCH! You could try wearing a teething necklace (tactile toys). Baby can be playing with that while nursing to keep his focus closer to the boob.❤️ And maybe tell dad to go be chatty in another room lol Something like this or just clip/hold a toy near your boob. amzn.to/3R6NqPU
You can have a clogged pore but you have more so that’s not usually going to show a big drop. If it’s been hurting and you haven’t been nursing or pumping as often on that side, your supply may have gone down. Or if you haven’t been nursing or pumping as often on that side, you could have a clogged duct starting. Do you mostly feed from the breast or do you often pump too? How old is baby?
@@marycahillclc I mainly pump - I have been trying to connect my 3 month (2 month adjusted) old more often on the problematic side to increase production (this breast used to be my top performer until I had a clog about 3 weeks ago. I have been struggling with supply on this side ever since. I only noticed the bleb about a week ago though).
@@marycahillclc I get about 2-3 ounces(closer to 2 most sessions) from the good side and about 1/2 - 1 ounce from the problematic side. I used to get 2-4 ounces from that side depending on the time of day.
@@stacyfrancom932 After about eight weeks, our milk supply starts to adjusts to what baby (or a pump) takes out. When a baby is exclusively fed from the breast, They take in an average of 24 ounces every 24 hours. This is for babies from one month to about six months (and often until 9 months). An average pumping amount is usually one to one and a half ounces an hour. So if it’s been two hours since your last pumping or nursing, you should be seeing about 2 to 3 ounces total from both breasts. About how much milk are you pumping every 24 hours? When we feed from the breast baby, add the stimulation that we need to make more milk. We are using a pump, it cannot give the same stimulation as baby mouth on the breast. To make up for that, we need to spend time with baby skin to skin, and when we are pumping we need to add lots of breast massage before pumping sessions. Massaging the whole breast for 10 minutes before pumping, helps to have a better letdown and increase supply. It’s also important to pump on a regular basis, and to be very consistent. This would mean, not going more than three hours stretches between pumping sessions during the day. Do you feel like you’ve been pumping regularly?
After getting bleps on and off for weeks, I came today to the realization that the upper lip is too unstable and may cause it. Then I run into your video and it made so much sense to me! Thank YOU! I’m finally answering my question of ‘what’s the matter?’My baby is 12 weeks, got laser correction for both tongue and lip tie at week 3. She’s had body work for her neck since she was born and until now. She improved the latch but still it’s so inconsistent. Of course the milk supply is affected. She’s not emptying my breast and I’m so tired of triple feeding on and off because of this 😢 How can we improved the lip weakness? I tried touching it to generate some pressure but not always worked. Thanks again!!
Tell me a little more about your supply and how you’re feeding? Do you pump? If so, how much are you getting at a pumping and how much total in 24 hours? How many wet diapers? What is she getting in bottles? How and when? I like lots of details 👍❤️
@@marycahillclc Thank you so very much for replying! It means to world to me right now. To give you a little more info: we had a home birth and she was born at a birth pool. She came out with her hand on her cheek and the shoulder. She was 7 pounds 4 ounces. She was having trouble feeding and we started seeing an osteopath, she said her neck was sore. My baby wasn’t transferring milk right, we noticed at week 3 because she wasn’t gaining weight (nothing severe but additionally she was starting to be fussy and she’s not a fussy baby, she is in good spirits most of the time). I was in pain with cracked and sore nipples (especially the right). We starting triple feeding and supplementing. We were doing breastfeeding, then pumped milk and then formula. I borrowed a scale and was weighing her at home every time. It was clear that milk supply was low as well. With the pump, I was getting 2 oz or less from the left and about 1 oz from the right or less after each fed. That week we got the tongue and the lip released with laser. The latch improved but her muscles were still weak and she wasn’t still transferring enough milk. So we kept doing that feeding plan for about 2 weeks, and I was wearing nipple shields to heal. Things got better overall but milk supply wasn’t increasing much. She needed 1 or 2 oz of formula every time. At week 8 it seemed she was fine (good weight and more muscle strength). We resumed direct on the breast, no more nipple shield, and kind of stopped pumping (didn’t know and perhaps diminished too abruptly). Three days after I got engorged and a blep, and three days later another blep. It wasn’t the first time of engorgement or bleps so I knew what to do to get better. But realized she wasn’t eating enough so came back to micromanage feedings making sure she was getting 4 oz every time. I put her on the breast and then supplement with formula if needed. This time I didn’t pump every single time like before (in the middle of the night- needed to sleep so bad!). We progressively stretched the breastfeeding to the point that she was doing formula only about 3 times a day (total of 4-5 oz a day between 4-10pm: 1 oz at 4pm, 2oz at 7pm and 2-3oz at 10pm) because that was the time when I have the less milk. Overall she was doing 3-4 oz every 3 hours. I think the typical was 7 times a day with 6 wet diapers. Normally constipated, bm once every 3 or so days. I stopped weighing her and tried to go with the flow. I decreased pumping because it was painful and I was getting less and less. I thought it was because she was getting it all, which in part it was. But I suspect she wasn’t getting all needed in the morning and she got used to that somehow. Then another week came and got a blep again. So to me another message she’s not transferring so I had to be back at pumping (don’t like it because it’s so uncomfortable and I thought there was no point without seeing milk coming out, wasn’t getting anything - sometimes anything at all). It turned out nipples changed size so changing flanges the pumping experience improved, no pain in the right, less pain in the left. Now I’m getting 1 oz from each breast after breastfeeding. Now to this week: she is 12 pounds 2.5 oz. she had a little more than 5 ounces on Monday morning and she seems to be requiring that now instead of 4 oz. The main 2 problems are: I keep getting bleps (now it’s the left) and she is falling sleep during each feeding session (I tried waking her up but then that is the only way to have her awake, me waking her up with water wipes, and touching her cheeks, moving her mouth, touching her lip, etc). I noticed that her upper lip is weak and that made me arrive to this video. I am so tired. I noticed also that she was losing weight after Monday. I am pumping again to improve milk supply and keep my breast at bay. How come all this is still happening at week 12? It’s like a step back once again. I don’t want to give up but I don’t know if I’m being stubborn and I just have to stop trying? Would it be the case that baby is not interested in sucking? But I know she likes the boobs more than the bottle. I’m fine with supplementing a little bit with formula. But I’m not fine with the need of troubleshooting every single week because something is not going well with either her feeding or my boobs. Is this normal? We finished this past Monday visits to the osteopath and she said baby was doing great. 🤷🏽♀️
