Thank you so much for these tips and steps. Such a clear and friendly video. I will definitely try these. My son latched perfectly at birth and the first 7 weeks were perfect. Then I bought a new Medela electric breast pump and also started with bottle for my son (about once a day). I've been going through repeated nipple cracks for the last 5 weeks that I believe started with the pump (Since no milk was coming out, we tried for 4-5 days by playing with intensity and also I pumped once for really long which I believe was a mistake. I was desperate to get some milk out of the pump). I changed the flange size thinking that's the problem but that didn't work either (causing more cracks). I've tried every product in the market: hydrogel pads, silverettes, lanolin, nipple shield (that didn't work with my then 11 week old), coconut oil. I also rested one breast for 24 hours or so in turns by hand expressing. The cracks seemed to heal for 2-3 days every time but came back with a bang. The child care suggested to use pump until it's healed. Since I was scared to use my electric pump, I bought a new manual pump. I'm able to pump and get milk out, but it may have stretched the cracks and it looks blood colored, but I have a feeling it may be healing, but I'm not sure about anything anymore. With silverettes, I even almost felt like I may have got a little thrush at one time due to spoilt-smelling milk, which went away with some home remedies. I'm scared to not wear silverettes too as a couple of times, my bra seemed to have made cracks worse. I even have a question as to whether there's a problem with latch, which I initially doubted because he latched perfectly for the first 7 weeks. I wonder if introducing bottle affected his latch on any way which I believe should be unlikely. I've been also endlessly looking for latching tips. And this is not even my first child. My elder son breastfed for really long and nobody ever taught me or my elder son how to breastfeed, latch, etc. I thought I knew everything about breastfeeding and now I'm going through these times. Finally I have a lactation consultant coming tomorrow, hope it will also soon be over. Thanks for reading.

I had my consultation yesterday and I think that was the best decision. Everything became clear and she gave a very clear direction. She said they're not nipple cracks but cuts/wounds caused by wrong pump due to my nipple structure. The nipples are compressed by silverettes or even clothes and every time I breastfed they're stretched. As they're taking too long to heal, there could be an infection and she got an antibiotic cream prescribed which is to be applied alternatively with coconut oil after feeds. Also she wanted me to wear breast shells (ones I came across in your video for the first time) because in my case they needed airing out. My husband got the antibiotic cream and breast shells right away. It's been around a day and I already feel so much better. I can see them healing. I am getting back to normal after about a month. My baby was gaining weight so well in the first 2 months but this month it's been less which is so disheartening 😢 I already see my son much more peaceful since last night because I'm able to feed happily and without stress. Hi I have a cracked and sore nipples but it is painful after feed and I feel burning sensation. Any tips? Also, I am using nipple cream and silver cups is it okay?
Yes, nipple creams and silveretts cups are great. We need to figure out what’s causing the soreness though. How old is baby? Is the pain all of the time? Are your nipples red and shiny? This can be Thrush.

@@tracylim1987 after nursing baby, you can mix 1 liter of comfortably hot water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Lean over and soak your breasts for a few minutes. Pat that dry and apply a nipple cream. This will soothe and speed healing. Is it to painful to breastfeed baby right now? If so, you can pump and feed to baby with a cup or bottle but go back to the breast when you can. You can use nipple shields but I only recommend that as a last resort and nipple shields should only be used for a few days.
Hi mommy! I’m sorry that I’m just now getting back to you. I was gone on vacation. Get some help from a lactation counselor if possible to work on the latch. A deep latch will help heal your nipples a reduce further damage. Baby should be completely turned towards you, so that their tummy is up against your body. Babies head should be tilted back so that their nose is not touching your breast, and their chin is pressed into your breast. This gives baby a wide open latch. How old is baby now?
I have been told that I have a flat nipple and was asked to use the breast shield right from day 2 of the birth. Nursing really hurts with this. I have tried to use it without a shield as well but the baby gets really frustrated. How do I get rid of the shield
I’m sorry that the nipple shield is hurting. They don’t usually make it painful. It’s good to wean off of it though. When baby starts to nurse with it on, remove it after about a minute of nursing. Try to do it quickly to get baby to latch again without it. If baby gets upset, put it back on. Try again every feeding. When baby is sleepy, they will be more apt to nurse without it. How old is baby?
Is it a clog in one spot that’s not going away or do you mean that you always have a clog somewhere? Are you an exclusive pumper because you have a forceful letdown/oversupply?
@@marycahillclc i mean i have a clogged duct that comes every 2-3 days in the same breast and same place, lately im not drinking enough water do you think thats the reason? I pump during the day every 4 hrs and during the night every 6 hrs
@@yvettad700 The amount of water you drink won’t affect you getting a clogged duct. Water won’t even affect supply, even though many moms don’t believe that. A clog is usually caused from going to long (longer that your normal) between pumping. Do if you normally pump every 4 to 6 hours, then occasionally go 6 to 8 hours. You may get a clog. Thank you so much for reading. I'm quite positive all will be normal again.
@@devsaki so EXCITING!!❤️. Sometimes you just need to be seen in person. Thanks for letting me know your outcome ❤️
@@marycahillclc Indeed! I hadn't imagined just an expert visit to lead to such a quick outcome. You guys are doing a great job 👍
How many times a day do you use the saline treatment? I noticed my baby had tongue and lip ties on day one. We couldn’t have them corrected until 4 days later and my nipples are rather cracked now. Latch feels okay now after that initial pain but I’m desperate to heal the damage that was done.
You can do the saline a couple of times a day. It’s soothing but too much can dry things out. I’m sorry that it’s been so painful mommy ❤️
Hello Mary, how many times in a day I can do the saline rinse?
Good question! 🥰
I would do it just twice a day because it can start to dry your skin too much. ❤️
Doesn’t it hurt? Saline on an irritAted nipple? Seems stingy
@@velerybicka I know that it seems like it would but it’s such a small amount of the salt. It’s soothing, reduces inflammation and speeds healing. ❤️
Hi I have a cracked and sore nipples but it is painful after feed and I feel burning sensation. Any tips? Also, I am using nipple cream and silver cups is it okay?
Yes, nipple creams and silveretts cups are great.
We need to figure out what’s causing the soreness though.

Is the pain all of the time?
Are your nipples red and shiny? This can be Thrush.
I have this but I’m not a mom
Im nee mommy. May i know how all these steps need to do after feeding?
Hi mommy! Is breastfeeding painful? Are you feeling sore?
@@marycahillclc yes. Is cracked and sore.
@@tracylim1987 Do you know why you’re so sore? Is baby not latching well? How old is baby?

@@tracylim1987 after nursing baby, you can mix 1 liter of comfortably hot water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Lean over and soak your breasts for a few minutes. Pat that dry and apply a nipple cream. This will soothe and speed healing.
Is it to painful to breastfeed baby right now? If so, you can pump and feed to baby with a cup or bottle but go back to the breast when you can.
You can use nipple shields but I only recommend that as a last resort and nipple shields should only be used for a few days.
I have the same problem what can i do please reply
So sorry mommy 😢
How old is baby? Do you know what is causing the cracked nipples? Is baby not latching well?
M a new mom and I have cracked nipples and yes I am having pain while nursing

Hi i have a question: i always have a clogged duct im exclusively pumping, what’s the reason do you think?
Is it a clog in one spot that’s not going away or do you mean that you always have a clog somewhere?
Are you an exclusive pumper because you have a forceful letdown/oversupply?
@@marycahillclc i mean i have a clogged duct that comes every 2-3 days in the same breast and same place, lately im not drinking enough water do you think thats the reason? I pump during the day every 4 hrs and during the night every 6 hrs
How many ounces do you get on average a pumping?
@@marycahillclc from the left side 60ML and the right side 140 and im having the clogged duct in the right side
