To be honest, I bought one a few weeks ago and I am really impressed. I have the Arturia software version but nothing can replace moving sliders by hand 😀I bought the Grey Meanie but indeed, the spring reverb is limited in use (as stated below, I've got a few other ones with 'real' spring reverbs). I usually haul this thing through either an Eventide H9 or through different modules on my (limited) Eurorack and VCV Rack as well. It is very satisfying to say the least. Behringer did a great job on this one.

Cheers for this! I picked up the Eventide UltraTap on a whim and am blown away by it so I'm not surprised that the Tricerachorus sounds so good. I feel the Eventide dot9 stuff is a little bit slept on. Definitely need a tasty chorus for my Pro 800 as my current offerings are a little lacklustre.

I find this one of my most frustrating synths I have ever used, I love how it sounds, I hate the UI, specifically how much menu diving is required when you want to set up MIDI aspects of each of the 1 of 4 parts. That screen is just BS but the companion software makes it so much easier but makes it sort of a moot point if you're looking at a screen to control hardware. The synth is an overly complicated mess to me, sounds great, let down by the tiny screen. I have the OG WS with not AT which is annoying AF too, so mine is packed away, I don't know if I will ever sell it, maybe I will keep it as a constant reminder of how great my music was through a whole bunch of hair tearing experiences.

Same. Besides the build quality is just crap and I do not like the clicky buttons... I bought the Wavestate plugin and I am really happy with that :) Edit: Oh and I am waiting for the SE version to go down in price... if it is around $1200 I might grab one.

    • @dankeplace
      @dankeplace ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@gin-sonic If I had to do it all over again, I would not get the SE but get the module, then attach a PAT keybed to it, or controller, which would work out cheaper than an SE. The SE to me seems like a wasted opportunity to improve the screen, where as the module seems like an intimate experience, up personal and close.

Had my Wavestate desktop just over a week now. No real issue with build quality - the sockets all line up at the back normally (note that the main chassis is actually plastic, and the front panel and rack ears are metal - I don't think that's going to be an issue - just feels a bit lighter weight than I was expecting). Being able to play the Wavestate V2 engine on a full size 88 key keyboard with the desktop unit at a nice angle directly in front is very nice.

I switched to Maschine software but of all the software synths i have at my fingertips (too many), my favorites are the ob 6 and prophet 5 emulations. The beauty of these synths is the per knob functionality, and simplicity of sound design. They're just fun to use and they make these gloriously weird otherworldly sounds :) If i were to switch back to hardware, i would certainly own this. Side note, I actually like the novation tracks as a controller even better than the launch pad. Smaller size, assignable knobs, and additional functionality for live situations.

Had it for almost a year now, the Pro-800. I’ve owned the real Prophet 600 with the gligli mod, a Juno-60, a JX3P, a Korg Polysix, an Oberheim Matrix 6, a Sequential Six-Trak amongst other classic analog poly synths and a bunch of modern polys too and the Behringer Pro-800 is pretty much as good as the best of them (Juno-60, Polysix and Matrix 6), and way better sounding than all the VST synths I’ve owned (that have tried to sound analogue) as well as most other modern day analogue synths. The Pro-800 has a depth, a snappiness and an organic sound and feeling that most hardware and software synths of the modern day seem to lack. It also has a really gritty bass and is capable of a huge variety of sounds. Usually I get tired of synths and sell them after weeks or months, but this one I will keep along with my Juno-60 and Polysix.

I had to swap my beloved MS-20 mini for a K2 when I moved back with my parents; didn't have space for a synth with even a mini keyboard. Loving Behringer's unit so far - the build quality is far better than I expected for that price, the sound is basically identical, and Filter 2 has a completely different, more liquid character that will def come in handy for certain patches. Only thing I don't like is having to re-calibrate the oscillators every fucking time I turn it on.

This synth is wild to me. I can't deny that every time I hear it it sounds epic as hell, but for some reason, I worry that it seems all a bit "premade" or maybe too canned? This video is making me really consider one though, cuz these types of pads and ambiences are really appealing to me.

Dan Phillips (R&D at Korg) said that the raspberry pi module inside is actually more expensive than the usual components you find in synths, which is ironic considering people keep talking about it as if it's some cheap cop out. Even with that said, the rest of the materials can't have been that expensive to produce. If they'd made it similar in quality to Modal's small form factor synths that'd be amazing, however, personally I don't really mind the light build (I bought the Modwave and Opsix too).

I love the sounds in the intro, well done. The Trigon has a wide tonal range just within the mixer section alone, because hotter signals can change the response of the filter resonance. With oscillator levels around half way, the filter is smooth and creamy. Turn the levels up higher and it adds grit and growl, with the resonance becoming bubbly and sort of dancing around in unexpected ways sometimes. I think Sequential was destined to get a lot of criticism for making a poly with the ladder filter and designing the front panel to look very similar to the Memorymoog. People will rush to make direct comparisons and of course the two synths won't sound the same. I view the Trigon as a brand new thing, not a direct copy of something else. And I love the way it sounds.

Great review! Not a Nymphes owner (yet) but since everyone is bitching on the reverb, I truly believe they designed it to be an extra tool to place the synth in the mix rather than have it be sounding all lush and wonderful in solo. Hence the fact that it cannot be set fully wet for instance.

Definitely agree about the missed opportunity of the Roland Boutique series. In fact I have an SE-02 which is absolutely amazing, and it really makes me wish Roland made more true analog replicas instead of the "ACB" and "Zencore" stuff they've got going. Plenty of great VST's available if you want digital recreations of analog gear but not many reasonably priced real analog synths.

Thanks for another cool video. I was really torn between the pro 800 and the nymphes when I was shopping for a synth. I went for the pro 800 because it had the display (so I could see what preset I've got loaded during gigs) and 2 more voices. But I much prefer the look of the nymphes and the company seems cool. Would love to see a pro 800 vs nymphes comparison, makes sense to me because they're similar price brackets. Also do you know if you can sync the LFO with clock?

I got the Nymphes before the Pro 800 became available but I don't regret it. On paper the Pro 800 beats it in most areas but Nymphes is more unique and like you said, it comes from a small, independent company that seems really cool. I've got a DeepMind as well so I'm no synth snob, but I like having different and unique gear from various companies.

I never liked my Prophet 6 but loved my Ob-6 and Trigon 6. None had build issues really (all were keyboards). Trigon 6 obviously the best built with the new knobs. Prophet 6 tonally never moved me vs my (later) Prophet 10 rev4. I prefer the OB-6 and Trigon 6 a lot over the P6 though.

Nobody likes the reverb! I've found some good uses for it. A Strymon it ain't. It's good as an occasional effect that you just pop in every once in a while, especially if you run Nymphes thru a delay. The dreaminess of a good delay, with occasional reverb washes bubbling up from within.... It works!

Nice video.Great job showing this guy off. I like the reverb for precisely the reasons you don't- love the comb filtering and aliasing- I mean, specific use case for sure, but as an ambient agnostic- I'll take a metallic, clangy verb over a lush wash any day. Lol.
