At age 16 I owned an Odyssey Mk I, I sold it at age 18. The Behringer Odyssey was the only way 42 years later I could get that sound back in hardware. I love it.
Analog effects is cool. But it makes it a little more fun to play around with the buttons (digital effects)
The odyssey is one of my favorite ever synths.I love that it’s so accessible now. You coaxed some great sounds out of it here
I bought the Behringer Cat and have loved playing it. You can get some wild modulations going and the oscillators sound nice.
Wow, that thing sounds great. I wasn’t aware it had a 2-pole filter setting.
I don't have an odyssey but I do have the b2600 and it's such an absolute beast
The model standard or the one with spring reverb? Looks really enjoyable too
nice playing . beautiful sounds. interesting video . i would like this synthesizer very much . Behringer did a marvelous job on this instrument . i always wanted the vaunted Odyssey for the sounds that interested me in synthesis to begin with .
Yeah same, years ago a friend had an Odyssey MK3 and it was the first instrument I ever saw that opened this world to me. it’s a special synth for sure
I've got the Korg Odyssey Module. I wish I'd grabbed the keyboard version. If I see the Uli version for the right price I'll probably snag it and layer it with the module.
GREAT, phat opening demo! I agree that they're all gorgeous.
I have the Korg model. The octave switch is pretty solid. No complaints. This one looks ok. I personally have no need for the led sliders, nor the other extras that aren't on the Korg. Full size would be nice.
Volante and Odyssey = 🔥. Altough I went for the Korg
enbies mentioned
A little kindness goes a long way. ❤
It's a beautiful synth. The biggest con for me was the high pass filter. YOu push it up 80% of the way and hear no difference, then the final tiny part of the slider it suddenly kicks in hard, so you don't get much fine control as the active/ audible part of the slider is miniscule.
Agree the FX are poor, but I imagine the reduction in cost would be more like 10 - 15 bucks. It's better than nothing for a live situation, but wouldn't use them for studio work.
Is it tunable keyboard ?
I have this and the Monopoly. While the Monopoly is not a bad synth, the Odyssey seems like it can get grittier and sweeter. I am not keen on the the color scheme of the LEDs, they effects don’t really grab me and it is sorely missing a proper mod wheel. However, they are just small things compared to the sound. I do wish they would have put a tuner in it for Pete’s sake!
As stated the BB delay from Neutron (or similar) definitely would have been a better choice then the effects they chose. (I do not like the Poly D chorus, but that is another topic) For me the biggest drawback here is their 2600 clone which is $100 cheaper. Just as quick and easy to dial in sounds if you simply ignore the patch points IMHO, but vastly more capable if you choose not to. Of course then you need a keyboard/control surface and a sequencer which some have, but not everyone.
How it feels to chew 5 gum
Of all these Behringers that you've tried now, which are your favorites?
The odyssey as mono synths go, the mono poly is a close 2nd as its paraphonic. As poly's go the deepmind 12.
Much obliged.
Funny you didn't mention the sequencer (which comes from Crave and MS-101) and MIDI out - which I thought were the main avantages (from my perspective) of owning a Behringer keyboard version.
To me, the ocatve switch and the pitch control buttons look to come from the same supplier on both synths - I own Korg Arp Odyssey module and the sh!t plasticky octave lever feels almost odd on otherwise sturdy steel chasis. But once you know what it feels like, you don't whack it like it's made out of iron, so not a downer for me.
Presumably Behringer followed Korg on filter switch functionality, so that would mean Revision I (white Odyssey) at the top, then Rev II in the middle (black and gold Odyssey) and Rev 3, the post Moog litigation version of black and orange model.
Haven’t really used the sequencer much yet.
Sorry to quibble, but this is "paraphonic" because there's only one signal path, with the second note hard gating in and out. Duophonic would be separate envelopes and filter per note.
IMHO, They needed to switch the pitch buttons for wheels.......it was a bad idea back then and should have been improved upon. I simply detest those buttons......as does my carpal tunnel. The build quality is way BEYOND the price........
