Glad you're enjoying yours! The OB-6 is really nice to have for all those classic SEM filter-based sounds, but the Trigon is a bit more versatile across a huge range of sounds in my opinion (having both). It's incredibly deep in its capabilities. Good choice. Cheers.
I love the sounds in the intro, well done. The Trigon has a wide tonal range just within the mixer section alone, because hotter signals can change the response of the filter resonance. With oscillator levels around half way, the filter is smooth and creamy. Turn the levels up higher and it adds grit and growl, with the resonance becoming bubbly and sort of dancing around in unexpected ways sometimes.
I think Sequential was destined to get a lot of criticism for making a poly with the ladder filter and designing the front panel to look very similar to the Memorymoog. People will rush to make direct comparisons and of course the two synths won't sound the same. I view the Trigon as a brand new thing, not a direct copy of something else. And I love the way it sounds.
The tuning issues you have are normal for nearly all Sequential instruments that are of this ilk. That includes OB6, P6, and Trigon. You need to build up a tuning table. As a Memorymoog Plus owner myself, the Trigon actually sounds better. I've never had any issues in 30 years of ownership of my Memorymoog with the exception of the battery, the instability of the Memorymoog is overstated. The Trigon sounds VERY good relative to the Mm which is a noisy instrument which includes the fan as well as the sound. And the wave shapes are much more characterful on the Trigon. Thanks for making this video.
I think my excessive tuning issue was tied to firmware as updating and clearing data it’s into the level of drift my take 5 and Minilogue are.
Discrete means without any IC, build from discrete components. Ie Transistors, capacitors, resistors. I know the meaning of the term is changing but this is the hill I’m dying on! :)
I mean that’s correct but you could call a cpu built in all 7400 series logic discrete as well.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon I disagree. As soon as multiple components are contained on one die, a pair of transistors for instance, it’s technically not discrete.
@@PWMaarten You are right of course but it's not that important really. The distinction is not going to help write any music. I will say I do think discreet tends to have a bit more magic to it maybe but most modern production really doesn't care. Lots of high profile records are done with just Ableton and Serum pretty much these days.
Discrete or otherwise, digital vs. analogue, these things are purely personal. And I mean personal: no one but you will know or care. Ultimately, is what the producer enjoys more, the listeners will not care or know otherwise.
Jason and screening trees: I agree with you both but that is completely besides the point. What a discrete circuit is is not up for debate. Also, I don’t make music for listeners.
I own both P6 and OB6 modules and am looking forward to adding this one in the next year. Strangely enough when it was announced I was actually a bit dubious, but everything I've heard so far has been great.
My Sequential Take 5 had tuning issues in the beginning as well... I believe that to be "normal"... You will just have to "learn" the calibration.... After a couple of weeks in my room and several manually initialized calibration runs it became quite stable...
Yeah my take 5 was all over the -lace and settled down. It’s more stable in general since it uses a complete VCO on a chip solution though.
Hard to argue
è cattivissimo questo synth. quando Dave va sul cattivo è VERAMENTE cattivo. ❤
Opening reminds me of Halloween 3, remnants. This is a good thing.
Reverb aside, nothing a simple H9 wont fix but I still think the the T6 sounds brilliant, the issue with verbs is people soak their gear with it, hiding the actual character of the synth, which defeats the purpose of having analog gear imo.
Having ambient temps is important for gear like this, I mean when you do change your ambients, gear will tend to drift.
Great vid, something new I have not heard of the T6 so that's cool. Having this compared to a Memory Moog is such a coupe considering it's far cheaper than a MM.
I personally am not a fan of the Moog signature, to me it's same same over many products, the T6 differs from the sonic pallet of the traditional Prophet sounds so this is a nice marriage of a ladder filter with Sequential engineering, love it.
1 q, are you really a dragon? Where's the fire bro?
I’m a fire free dragon ! Fire breaks my hoard of synths.
Nice demo. 6 voices seem a little limiting in my opinion. I loved my Prophet 6 but sold it in the end because of the low voice count. I wonder if there could be a firmware update where the 3rd oscillator could be turned off and the voices used to up the polyphony count to 9 voices?.....just a thought
The architecture would not allow for that
Sounds Great! $2.5K is out of my price range. 24:59 Wavestate Baby! I love my Wavestate, but it's a different beast.
Wavestate is best state !
The VCO's on the Take 5 are analog you said they were digital at (8:08 , )if that is what you meant where did you get that information?
I meant vcas not vcos. The vcas are digital on the take 5
The Wavestate is my favourite go to synth the last couple of years especially for ambient and sequencing duties. Nothing comes close.
Brutal comments section. (I suspect the comments would be different if the synth was cheaper).
I like this synth and is the sequential synth I would buy if I was looking. It’s a lot creamier than it comes across in this video.
Glad you’re enjoying it.
I think it has strengths being mellow and lush and also modern and gritty. Something many analog polys dont do at the same time.
It's super creamy. So, so worth the money. All this whining reminds me of people who claim BMWs and Audis aren't better than other cheaper cars. There's a term for such people: people who have never owned one. 🤣👍🏻
Can the creaminess even come across via any recording at all?
DOUBT
Some subtleties will get lost in any recording due to the low-end input stages on all recording gear. I'm guessing that is not as much the case with top-end Apollo, Lynx, and RME gear, but there I definitely do not know, I've never touched those kinds of units.
@@Jason75913 Perhaps you’re right. A TH-cam recording does not always capture the magic.
I really want a trigon 6 desktop but you have me super worried 2500 is a lot to put down on a unit that I might have to return back and forth are there any other synths in the market that work in the way that the trigon does with its PCs being able to switched on as in one Osc can have three selectable shapeswaveforms aga. Time?
I saw that the teo 5 will and does
Teo 5 is one of the few current analog synths I know of that allows it and the trigon. At least as affordable in production poly synths go. The pro 800 also allows it but it’s only 2 oscillators.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon oh wow so the pro 800 allows you to have three Osc waveform per Osc and it’s 400!?!? Yikes any non affordable ones does the peak allow this?
@@tombasports the peak does not allow for those in theory. You could however make or find a wave table with 3 of the waveforms in it at the same time and load that in the custom wavetables.
I‘m also a huge Memorymoog fan. Therefore I bought the *GSMusic e7* which has by far more MM vibes than the T6. The T6 sounds too harsh and tight. The e7 is also more affordable (€1,700 in 2023).
The e7 is a masterpiece
It's not difficult at all to get some super creamy sounds that are the opposite of harsh out of any all analog three oscillator ladder filter polysynth.
@@cortical1 Why doesn‘t anybody on YT do it then?
@@RayyMusik It is irrational to suggest that something isn't true or is never done because it's not on TH-cam.
Yeah the GS E7 is very memorymoog, probably because of the filter type
Can you also use it to make music?
No, the manual stated that invalidates the warranty.
Great video. I don’t know why, but this is the only modern Sequential synth that never really impressed me soundwise.
I mean I feel the ob6 has more character but the trigon can do so much more. I feel the trigon lacks too many demos to show off what it really can do.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon that can indeed be the reason. As you said, it can do a lot more, so maybe it’s all about the sweet spots being more sparse and requiring more experimentation to find(?). Interesting
@@NGC0Music no, you're just jaded, and you don't have to like it if you don't want to
I refuse to watch any video that declares something 'my new favourite'.
You seem like you would be fun at parties
@@DiodeMilliampere it's such a tiresome click bait youtube cliche. It deserves to be ignored.
@@danpreston564 Yawn.
And yet you clicked and wrote a comment that will bring ad revenue for the video. Not the sharpest resonant filter in the bank, are you. 🤔
@@cortical1 I stopped it 1 second, aware of the irony. It was worth it.
