At this price, more than likely it's laminate, but it's tough to tell from the Cordoba website, which states: "the UP 100 Ukulele Pack contains an all-mahogany Cordoba concert ukulele." They don't specify whether it's laminate or solid. I suppose I could send an email to them and ask, as could you if you prefer. In any case, whether laminate or solid it's got a fairly good sound for the price point and I still enjoy playing this ukulele.

@@IanRoberts-sz8nx Anytime! Whether you're already experienced with playing or just starting out, this model is comfortable to play and has a good tone. It's super easy to restring if you use ball end strings too. Also, I did some research and Kala has a concert ukulele which they advertise as "solid mahogany" for $219. For that price you can get a vintage solid ukulele too, but play it first to assess the condition. Good luck man, and if you post a video playing it drop me a line and I'll check it out.

Well, I just took a look and in September, you can get a round trip ticket from Stockholm to Washington, D.C. with United Airlines for $408, with one stop in Newark, New Jersey (apparently, there is no direct flight to Sweden from here, even with SAS). So the ball is in your court now, ha ha.

Thanks, Tomas! This one isn't played that much, but there are a few Segovia performances of it. His arrangement is somewhat based on the Napoleon Coste one, but he goes way down the neck for the 2nd half and there is no printed arrangement for how he plays it. I started figuring it out by ear, but didn't get all of it. Most of what I performed is from the Coste arrangement. I had to visually watch his performance to figure some of it out. Anyways, I'll send you a link to those performances.

A set will usually last me about six months in the winter and three months in the summer. The gut will usually last longer than the silk basses. Occasionally, you'll get a defective gut string or one that doesn't last as long as the others, usually the high e, but I've had it happen on a B too. You can almost always tell if a string is "off" because there will either be a variation in color or texture. These strings are very susceptible to changes in weather, so I'd recommend keeping the guitar in a properly humidified case when not in use. I got lazy one night last month and left the Ramirez on the stand and woke up to the silk D string breaking in the middle of the night (sounded like something out of a horror movie, especially in the dark). While this set does require more maintenance than nylon, the organic sound quality and depth of feeling you can get out of your music makes it worthwhile. Hope this helps!
